A "Crimson Lord" was, in essence, a Crimson Denizen with immense power in the world of Shakugan no Shana.

Though Crimson Denizens looked no different from humans, they could hardly be called human anymore.

As long as they possessed "power of existence," they could continue living in the world indefinitely and wield even greater power.

Put simply, "Power of existence" was existence itself. Without it, it was as though no trace of you existed in this world.

These Crimson Denizens were called Crimson Lords because they devoured the power of existence in the World of the Living without restraint.

Some Crimson Denizens, seeking to stop their companions' atrocities, formed contracts with humans, creating the so-called "Flame Hazes."

Though the Yang Cheng from Shana's world was a Crimson Lord, he was like Lami, the "Bone Collector." He never devoured humans, instead collecting only the Torches-the power of existence-left over after other Denizens had fed.

For that very reason, the Yang Cheng from Shana's world had always been considered a disgrace to the Crimson Lords.

Despite being a Crimson Lord with immense power, he didn't use that strength to gather power of existence at will and devour human Torches. Instead, he survived by scavenging.

In Shana's world, whether one was a Crimson Denizen or a Flame Haze, their power manifested as flames when they used an Unrestricted Spell.

Since Yang Cheng's flames were ice blue, that was where the name "Azure Flame" came from.

After sharing their memories and powers, all the Yang Chengs present were delighted and excited.
