Inside the Spider Cafe, Zala, code-named Miss Doublefinger, was running the little shop as its proprietress under her usual alias, Paula.
Since the shop was far from any city and lay on no essential route, its customers were usually limited to fellow members of Baroque Works and travelers who had lost their way.

"What did you say?!" The hot-tempered Mr. 5 shot to his feet.
"Shut up! All of you!" The short, stout Miss Merry Christmas, whose temper was even worse than his, shouted angrily, "Stop disturbing my rest! I've finally got some free time for once, and I'd like to relax my back!"
She was lying facedown on one of the cafe's tables, having her partner, Mr. 4, give her a massage.
Mr. 5 immediately abandoned Paula and turned to argue with Miss Merry
