Inherited hunter knowledge 1 Receives wilderness survival knowledge, weapon techniques, item knowledge, and a spatial Hunter’s Pouch after awakening on the island.
Enhanced hunter physique recognized 2 Discovers that his child-sized body can wield a nearly two-meter Long Sword without struggling with its weight. His movements still require practice to match his inherited memories.
Basic Long Sword techniques consolidated 5 After more than a month of training, largely masters the sword forms available without live combat. Shifts his focus to physical conditioning and cross-weapon techniques; estimates Demon Mode would last only about five seconds in combat.
First successful large-monster battle 7 8 Slays the Forest Sheep King without being hit. Converts inherited memories into practical experience and gains confidence, while recognizing missed openings and poor stamina management.
Stronger attacks identified 11 12 Tests Demon Mode, Spirit Blade, and iai techniques against Bullfango Kings. Establishes that Sacred Sheathe Iai Slash can kill a lightly defended large monster without Demon Mode, conserving stamina.
Outgrows the island’s usual threats 14 Most large monsters cease to provide useful training. Can decapitate hostile monsters with a single Spirit Blade using Fresh Knife: White Calm.
Move-dependent Armament Haki awakening 19 20 Reaches Armament Haki through hunter techniques such as Demon Mode combined with Spirit Blade and charged attacks. Initially cannot activate it independently of particular moves.

Holy Knights defeated 620 625 Fights Saint Bertrand and his supporting allies. Later kills Saint Sest with Demon Mode-enhanced dual-wielded Long Swords.
Swordsmanship competitive with Mihawk 766 769 Trades serious sword attacks with the World’s Greatest Swordsman using only a Long Sword, without companion assistance or potions. Meets Mihawk’s strongest slash with Iai: Sunbreak Eclipse; the duel is interrupted before a winner is decided.
Head-on strength and multi-weapon proficiency advanced 787 788 Withstands a direct clash with Kaido without the earlier severe strain, then uses Aerial Style and repeated weapon changes to hone his proficiency under pressure.
High-level aerial combination combat 793 795 Wears Klee’s flame armor and wings during the attack on Uranus, evades aerial interception, and lands on the Ancient Weapon after driving Kong back.
Adapts to Imu’s teleportation 808 Uses Observation Haki and combat experience to handle Imu’s attacks after adjusting to his teleportation, though repeated instantaneous movement prevents Xie Wen from inflicting damage during the described exchange.

Background / History

Transmigration and island survival

Before transmigrating, Xie Wen lived alone, was a longtime homebody, and was familiar with Monster Hunter, One Piece, anime, and transmigration fiction. He had also volunteered at an animal rescue center 1 16.

He awakens on an unfamiliar beach beside Sanji Meow, with his adult body reduced to that of a small child. The Palico’s presence, the title “Sapphire Star,” and his new hunter equipment initially lead him to interpret his surroundings through Monster Hunter settings 1.

Sanji Meow handles gathering and food preparation while Xie Wen trains near their cave. After becoming capable of hunting large monsters, the pair adopt a mobile camp and explore progressively farther north 5 14. His isolation ultimately lasts several years, leaving his human social skills rusty 24.

Klee’s arrival and departure for sea

A flame-patterned ticket from the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia summons Klee Meow, who arrives through an explosion and recognizes Xie Wen as “big brother Sapphire Star.” He gives her the Flame-Flame Fruit after explaining its powers and unpleasant taste 16 17.

Once he understands that they are in the One Piece world, Xie Wen increases his training intensity and makes Armament Haki mastery a condition for leaving the island. He chooses a Research Commission rather than a pirate crew as the model for his expedition 18 19 20.

At sea, he trades dried fish to a News Coo for a newspaper dated 1515. The reports help him place their journey before the Summit War, and the bird later guides the group to Cody’s merchant vessel in the West Blue 22 23.

Cody’s escort and the Gures trade fair

In Paper Lantern Town, gangs pursue Xie Wen’s Palicoes. Bax intervenes, and Klee’s bombs defeat the attackers but damage the town. Xie Wen takes responsibility for compensating affected civilians and accepts an escort job from Cody 25 26 27.

The job brings him to Gless Island and the Gures trade fair. He cuts down Capone Family members who demand the cats, then remains alert to Capone Bege’s threats while protecting Cody at the venue 36 37 39.

Xie Wen defeats Bege by piercing and blasting open his Castle Man shell. Cody stops him from killing Bege because destroying the Capone Family would destabilize Gures. Xie Wen instead accepts a ship, a Famous Sword, and fifty million Beli as compensation 43 44.

Independent exploration

The group selects a small single-masted ship and names it Explorer One. Sanji Meow quickly becomes its helmsman, while Xie Wen struggles with steering. Bege subsequently delivers Long Moon, one of the fifty Skillful Grade Swords, and the agreed money 45 46.

After completing the escort job, Xie Wen plans to explore more of the West Blue before heading toward Reverse Mountain and the East Blue. His immediate destination is the Shatterbone Islands 47.

Klee discovers Ottilia hiding aboard their ship, claiming that the Capone Family wants her dead. Xie Wen allows her to remain aboard; during subsequent island expeditions, she watches the ship while he and the Palicoes map new territory. Their travels eventually bring them into contact with an approaching pirate vessel 47 49 50.

In the Flower Country, Xie Wen studies Haki under Chinjao and repeatedly spars with him. He learns additional Armament applications and develops Observation Haki, but recognizes that safe practice alone cannot indefinitely improve his strength 63 64 68.

The expedition attacks the Suwak Pirates’ base and obtains its first Great Grade Sword, which produces an additional weapon-catalog reward. Xie Wen also tests his theory of carving Devil Fruits from deceased users; an early attempt instead produces twenty-two million Beli, exactly matching the dead pirate’s bounty. The group subsequently leaves for the East Blue 71 73 74.

East Blue and the Conomi Islands

Xie Wen summons Meow Jūshirō and begins learning Flying Cat Hiten-Mitsurugi Style from him. During their East Blue travels, the expedition’s published West Blue travel guide becomes recognizable enough for Zeff to identify its authors. Xie Wen explains that he intends to write guides for all Four Seas before moving on to the Grand Line 77 78 80 82 89.

At the Conomi Islands, Xie Wen rescues a villager from Chew and kills the Fish-Man officer with one stroke. He refuses payment from the impoverished residents and proceeds against Arlong, severing his arm with the first strike and killing him with the second. Meow Jūshirō defeats the other attacking Fish-Men, while Xie Wen also kills Momoo 96 97.

He returns the pirates’ stolen treasure to the villagers, recovers Nami’s charts, and finds a complete East Blue map that fills the corresponding virtual sea chart in the Hunter’s Notes. After bringing Momoo’s body back to Explorer One for carving, he obtains a completed Summon Ticket. Sanji Meow’s attempt to use it fails, and Xie Wen takes it back; Hua Mei Meow is subsequently present among the expedition’s companions 97 98 99.

The group attends Cocoyasi Village’s celebratory banquet, where Nami and Nojiko thank him. After learning that Arlong forced Nami to work as a navigator, Xie Wen advises the sisters to remove her tattoo and conceal her navigational talent. He remains in the Conomi Islands to map their settlements, stays at the former Arlong Park, and provides the sisters with training guidance 99 100 104.

His victories over the Arlong Pirates and Black Cat Pirates spread his reputation as “Cat Swordsman.” Later East Blue experiences include meeting Ace and Luffy and sparring with Koshiro, whose swordsmanship introduces him to the importance of a swordsman’s personal will 111 122 129 133.

New ships and the remaining seas

After Morgans helps popularize “Sapphire Star,” Xie Wen becomes increasingly recognizable as a bounty hunter accompanied by unusual cats. In Water 7, he commissions a ship using Treasure Tree Adam obtained from St. Poplar. He gathers Eternal Poses to cross the Grand Line and continue his wider exploration 151 152 153 155 156.

During passage through the Calm Belt, he clashes with the Kuja Pirates and Boa Hancock. His bomb-tempered Armament Haki and composite hunter techniques allow him to fight Hancock and repel her warriors, though her petrification ability remains troublesome 157 158 159.

Xie Wen becomes involved with Kuma and Bonney. When Bekori’s forces set fires, he rescues the trapped civilians, extinguishes the flames with Manticore, and retaliates against the perpetrators. He kills Bekori and returns with the king’s head and treasure 172 176 177.

The expedition later reaches North Blue aboard the Toot Toot Forward. Near Lighthouse Island, Xie Wen and Klee defeat an attacking pirate fleet with a combined flaming slash and close combat. The arriving Marines provide bounty vouchers and invite him to their base, leading him to suspect that Marine control in North Blue is weak 188.

His defeat of Cracker brings an offer of recruitment from Big Mom, which he rejects. Morgans publicizes the victory, crediting Fresh Knife: White Calm with countering Cracker’s Devil Fruit, while Kuma, Bonney, and Law call to check on him 214.

Alabasta, Sky Island, and the Shichibukai

In Alabasta, Xie Wen fights Crocodile and defeats him, further increasing his notoriety among pirates. Nico Robin joins the Research Commission, and Xie Wen chooses to reveal the secret of Palico summoning to her rather than risk worsening her insecurity through concealment 234 238 249.

After helping an elderly man on Long Ring Long Land reunite with his family, the expedition reaches Jaya. Xie Wen defeats Captain Maceo’s challengers with a flying slash, explores Mock Town, and proceeds to Sky Island 249.

On returning, he shares the truth about Noland and the Shandia with Cricket, whose diary Robin reads. Learning that Ace has defeated a Shichibukai, Xie Wen makes himself visible in Mock Town while awaiting contact from Cipher Pol 275.

The expedition obtains Shusui on Thriller Bark and defeats Moria. On Sabaody, Xie Wen fights Rayleigh with support from the cats, uses Potions during the confrontation, and refines Scarlet Sky’s End in response to the limits exposed by Rayleigh’s Conqueror’s Coating 289 308 310 316 318.

After Xie Wen becomes a Shichibukai, Sengoku attempts to use the other members to pressure him and create an opportunity to recruit him into the Marines. The plan fails to unfold as intended: Mihawk wants to spar, Jinbe comes to thank him for rescuing two Fish-Men, and Hancock agrees to settle their earlier grievances for Shakky’s sake 318. Xie Wen subsequently tests his instant Scarlet Sky’s End against Mihawk 324.

Fish-Man Island and confrontations with the Emperors

On Fish-Man Island, Xie Wen leaves Hody Jones for the Ryugu Kingdom to handle and visits the Sea Forest, where collecting the apology Poneglyph provides no Hunter’s Notes reward. His sightseeing is interrupted when Madame Shyarly identifies him as Arlong’s killer and refuses him entry to her cafe, despite acknowledging that her brother deserved his fate 341.

During later travels, he and the Palicoes defeat Baby 5 and Buffalo. Robin persuades him to spare them, and the captives learn that Doflamingo had not known whose ship they were attacking. Their confrontation develops into further dealings with Doflamingo 359 364.

Xie Wen fights Katakuri to improve his Observation Haki and later meets Kaido’s attack with a heavily enhanced counter. The expedition escapes, confirming to Xie Wen that even Kaido cannot readily prevent their withdrawal. After further danger, he reunites with his worried companions and receives their affection and reassurance, including an embrace from Robin 390 393 399 400.

He subsequently faces Big Mom and visits Zou, where the minks welcome the expedition. His animal-handling skills make him particularly popular, and his performance against Inuarashi and Cat Viper prompts some minks to suggest that he could become their king 415 434 435 449.

After summoning Kaido Meow with the artificial Sakura Dragon Fruit, Xie Wen explains this world’s Haki and Devil Fruits to the new companion 451 453. He later bargains with Cody over World Government compensation for participating in an ambush on Big Mom, demanding three pieces of Dyna Stone and an additional rare Devil Fruit. Cody rejects the fruit requests and disputes Xie Wen’s claim that three Dyna Stones have already been agreed upon 478.

Drum Island, Dressrosa, and the Reverie

On Drum Island, Xie Wen discovers that Wapol has arranged an elaborate welcome after being warned of his arrival. A resident begs him to overthrow the king, but Xie Wen refuses to attack directly while still a Shichibukai and preparing to confront Doflamingo. Instead, he hints that a vice-captain of the Bonney Pirates might act against Wapol independently 518.

At Dressrosa, Xie Wen overwhelms Doflamingo and knocks him unconscious with a hammer before Birdcage can shrink. He collects the captured Donquixote Family and departs aboard the Dudu, restraining the prisoners with Seastone chains. He extracts Monet’s Snow-Snow Fruit and leaves Doflamingo’s fate to Law, who shoots him 551.

At the gathering of rulers, Vivi thanks Xie Wen for saving Alabasta, while Rebecca, the Riku family, Kureha, Dalton, and other beneficiaries of his travels greet him. The expanding crowd demonstrates the breadth of his favorable reputation among royal families 565.

Karakuri Island, the Holy Knights, and expanding alliances

On Karakuri Island, Xie Wen and the cats investigate Vegapunk’s former research institute, disarm concealed explosives, and conclude that another research facility may be elsewhere. Rather than remove the institute’s research materials, they remain to sort and record them. Morgans then admits that he has revealed their location to Shanks, who is already coming to meet them 597.

During the Celestial Dragons’ attack on Sapphire Star, Xie Wen fights CP0 and Saint Bertrand, a Holy Knight who initially demands a duel before calling for allies. Xie Wen later kills Saint Sest with dual-wielded Long Swords and takes up Baby 5’s Heavy Bowgun form during the pursuit of the remaining enemies 620 625.

After leaving Wano Country, Xie Wen reunites with Ace and visits the Whitebeard Pirates with Yamato, now a member of the Research Commission. He supplies Suika Meow’s Ibuki Sake for a banquet and offers to have Ai Haibara Meow examine Whitebeard 671.

He also helps Uta confront Tot Musica, entering the Sing-Sing Fruit World and striking the monster’s central skull while allies attack its real-world counterpart. After both manifestations are destroyed, he reassures Uta and promises that they will face future trouble together 690.

Marineford, Uranus, and Imu

By the later Marineford battle, Xie Wen is counted among the Five Emperors. He duels Mihawk seriously enough to shatter the surrounding ice, holding his ground against the swordsman’s strongest slash with Iai: Sunbreak Eclipse. Luffy’s arrival interrupts their clash, and the remaining ice breaks beneath them before the duel can be decided 766 769.

In a subsequent rematch with Kaido, Xie Wen confirms that he can now withstand a direct clash without the disabling strain he once suffered. He nevertheless favors evasive attrition and repeatedly changes weapons to improve his proficiency under pressure before returning to Fresh Knife: White Calm 787 788.

During the assault on Uranus, Klee becomes flame armor and wings for Xie Wen, allowing them to attack together in the air. He drives Kong back, lands on the Ancient Weapon, and confronts the Five Elders and Saint Garling. He and Shalmeow then restrict the enemies’ movement while Klee prepares another “Little Girl” bomb 793 795 797.

Against Imu, Xie Wen discovers that even his exceptionally fast Scarlet Heaven attacks can be evaded through teleportation. After adjusting, he handles Imu’s attacks with Observation Haki and superior practical fighting experience, concentrating on keeping him occupied and watching for an opening 807 808.

Continued exploration and Laugh Tale

Xie Wen and his companions help King Neptune relocate the Fish-Man Race to Thriller Bark, leaving Shirahoshi there to begin her new role as princess. He then takes Robin to Elbaf, where she reunites with Jaguar D. Saul at the Owl Library 817.

As Dragon announces new policies and Marine Branches reopen, Xie Wen resumes exploration, pirate hunting, and travel-guide writing. His Grand Line map passes seventy-five percent completion, but the Hunter’s Notes indicates that a core exploration area remains missing. Using the four Road Poneglyphs, he reaches Laugh Tale, where the Notes opens a red portal leading to Cocoyasi Village 817.

Appearance

  • Initial body: Rejuvenated into a small child, with a smooth chin and much smaller limbs. He estimates his height at no more than approximately 130 centimeters 1.
  • Growth: Becomes considerably taller during island life, eventually able to wear his Long Sword diagonally across his back 14.
  • Clothing: Arrives in coarse linen, Monster Hunter-style clothes. After outgrowing them, makes hide trousers using tailoring skills developed while constructing a tent 1 14.
  • Eyesight: His former nearsightedness disappears after transmigration, and his enhanced physique further improves his vision 50.
  • Demon Mode: His skin develops a faint red hue and veins bulge across areas including his forehead and hands 5.
  • Cat-form equipment: Ai Haibara Meow’s cat-paw can transforms into a belt that gives him a brown-furred, feline appearance, including paws and a tail. He compares it to Mario’s Super Bell cat form 210.
  • Flame armor: In combination with Klee, wears golden-red flame armor with wings spanning more than three meters, nearly four 793.

Personality

Xie Wen is laid-back and initially carries over the laziness of his former life. Survival pressure makes him persist with training, despite his previous habit of abandoning exercise after only a few days. His first successful hunt marks a shift from fear and dependence toward confidence and a desire to make something of his second life 3 5 8.

His strongest indulgence is his affection for cats. He frequently pets, carries, and cuddles his Palicoes, treats them as companions rather than merchandise, and refuses even an offer to exchange one for a Skillful Grade sword. He recognizes that Klee’s cuteness makes him poorly suited to disciplining her 20 27 36.

That affection comes with responsibility. He insists on paying for damage caused by Klee’s bombs and preserves her habit of making amends. He also seeks practical safety measures—such as a raft towed far behind the fleet—rather than simply forbidding her experiments 26 27 34.

Xie Wen values freedom of movement and rejects both Marine service and piracy. Marine assignments would interfere with his exploration, while flying a pirate flag would attract pursuit without helping his goals. He is grateful to Cody and unwilling to pry into the secrets of someone who has respected his own 19 39 44.

He is pragmatic about conflicts outside his expedition: although he shelters Ottilia, he has no intention of avenging the Buono Family or becoming involved in gang warfare on her behalf 50.

His caution persists even after he becomes powerful. He identifies with cautious hunters rather than reckless protagonists, prefers attrition and exploiting openings to unnecessary head-on contests, and remains willing to retreat. Surviving his confrontation with Kaido makes him more comfortable with publicity, but does not change his reluctance to seek danger for its own sake 316 399 787.

He is generous toward victims without presenting himself as a dedicated revolutionary or universal rescuer. He refuses payment from Arlong’s impoverished victims and returns their stolen treasure, yet admits that he lacks the experience to translate theoretical revolutionary knowledge into practical leadership. His advice nevertheless influences the Revolutionary Army’s strategy of replacing, supporting, and winning over rulers 96 97 103 370.

Although the cats frequently outperform him in their specialties, he takes pride in his own progress and consoles himself that he is talented by ordinary standards. His affection is not limited to rewarding useful abilities: he respects companions’ personal choices, including whether to eat a compatible Devil Fruit or reveal themselves to outsiders 82 98 366 496.

He has little interest in fame for its own sake, but uses publicity when it serves a concrete purpose, such as establishing “Sapphire Star” as his preferred epithet or making his weapons famous for catalog rewards 112 153 208. Despite past romantic experience, he often finds petting cats more appealing than pursuing women and is content to let his relationship with Robin develop naturally while his new body is still young 424.

Abilities & Skills

Hunter-Style Swordsmanship

  • Preferred weapon: The Long Sword/nodachi, despite his early frustration with its size 2 31.
  • Techniques: Uses Spirit Blade, Foresight Slash, Fade Slash, Helmbreaker, Special Sheathe, and Sacred Sheathe Iai Slash 7 12.
  • Hunting tactics: Targets legs to reduce mobility, creates openings through repeated harassment, and prioritizes remaining mobile over taking hits 7 11.
  • Limitation: His inherited techniques initially favor large monsters over human-sized enemies. Sanji Meow and Bax help him adapt 6 29.
  • Additional instruction: Learns the basics of Bax’s thrust-focused Guard Corps swordsmanship and later Flying Cat Hiten-Mitsurugi Style from Meow Jūshirō 33 80 82.
  • Will and swordsmanship: Recognizes through Koshiro’s demonstration that a swordsman can imbue a blade with personal will. Treats understanding his own reasons for wielding a sword as one possible route to improvement rather than the only viable path 133.
  • Flying slashes: Projects ranged cutting attacks, including the Long Sword version called Heaven-Splitting Ruin and the Great Sword version called Heaven-Shattering Blast 176.
  • Late swordsmanship: Can contend with Mihawk using a Long Sword without companion assistance or potions. Their interrupted duel demonstrates competitive swordsmanship but does not establish a winner 769.

Cross-Weapon Techniques

  • Can apply Great Sword charged attacks, Dual Blades’ Demon Mode, and the Lance’s charged dash while wielding a Long Sword 2.
  • Can release accumulated Qi Training Value in a version of the Charge Blade’s Super Amped Elemental Discharge 2.
  • Uses a Super Amped Elemental Discharge Thrust against Bege, concentrating accumulated Qi at his blade’s tip 43 44.
  • Cannot reproduce techniques requiring missing components, including Kinsects, Wyvern’s Fire mechanisms, and specialized ammunition. Most Silkbind Attacks initially require unavailable Wirebugs; usable exceptions lose some effects without them 2.
  • Combines hammer spinning, Spirit Roundslash, Sword and Shield Roundslash, Demon Mode, and Flying Slash into a rotating area attack originally named Blade Storm 159.
  • Uses Overlord Leon, a combination of Demon Mode, Charged Slash, Spirit Blade, and a Great Sword’s sideways slap, to generate enough wind to extinguish a major fire 176.
  • Develops proficiency across the fourteen Monster Hunter weapon types, repeatedly changing weapons against Kaido before returning to his preferred ordinary Long Sword 788.
  • Can wield Baby 5’s transformed weapon forms, including a Long Sword and Heavy Bowgun 625.

Demon Mode

  • Temporarily enhances his combat performance and can be combined with sword techniques for stronger attacks 11 12.
  • Initially consumes stamina so rapidly that a few seconds cost nearly a third of his reserves 12.
  • Demon Mode alone does not account for his strongest cuts; the accompanying sword technique also matters 12.
  • Later uses Demon Mode: Beast with Spirit Blade for Red Radiant Meteor 158 766.
  • Can combine Demon Mode and the principles behind Spirit Blade with Armament Haki even in an unarmed clash 125.
  • Uses Demon Blade: Rakshasa, a Hunting Art whose effect has a limited duration and must be periodically reactivated 393 575.

Armament Haki

  • Can independently coat his blade in Armament Haki rather than relying on a specific hunter move to activate it 20.
  • Pursues it chiefly to fight Devil Fruit users, especially Logia users 19 20.
  • Under Chinjao, learns imbuement and largely grasps emission. Internal destruction remains unmastered during that instruction 63.
  • Initially considers defensive use during Klee’s experiments only as an expectation. Later demonstrates it by blocking a bomb’s shock wave and debris after Klee suppresses the flames, though doing so rapidly drains his Haki 34 82.
  • Repeated exposure to Klee’s bombs tempers his Haki sufficiently that its quality slightly exceeds Hancock’s during their early confrontation 158.
  • Understands that Haki does not guarantee victory against sufficiently powerful attacks; his defenses would not indefinitely withstand Klee attacking at full strength while he merely absorbed the blows 234.
  • Conqueror’s Haki: Early in his journey, does not actively train for it and regards awakening as a matter of fate. His later ability to contend with Conqueror’s Coating through specialized attacks does not itself establish that he possesses Conqueror’s Haki 19 34 310 324.

Observation Haki

  • Initially reports no progress, but later develops it during his Haki studies 19 34 63 64.
  • Specializes in assessing the strength of presences and detecting danger. Can estimate a person’s approximate ordinary strength, but cannot automatically account for transformations or activated power boosts 64.
  • Possesses rapid threat reactions and useful weakness detection, traits associated with his inherited hunting experience 64.
  • Can sense the sudden appearance of a new presence, as demonstrated when Meow Jūshirō arrives outside the door during his summoning 77.
  • Improves considerably under Katakuri’s pressure without immediately developing future sight 390.
  • Cannot determine details such as Blackbeard’s number of hearts merely by sensing him from a distance 468.
  • Helps him adjust to Imu’s teleportation and defend against attacks from unexpected positions 808.

Styles, Hunting Arts, and High-Speed Combat

  • Reproduces Shave from his prior knowledge of the technique’s explanation 105.
  • Learns general-purpose Hunting Arts including Adamantine Body, Absolute Evasion, and Phoenix Breath, which he compares to Iron Body, Kami-e, and Life Return respectively 329.
  • Combines these Arts with Dance Jump, Finger Pistol, and Tempest Kick into what he considers a hunter version of the Six Powers, supplemented by Life Return 329.
  • Uses multiple hunter styles, including Guild Style, Valor Style, Aerial Style, and Bushido Style, adapting his approach to defense, counters, aerial mobility, or sword exchanges 390 393 754 766 787.
  • Uses Flurry Rush to enter a high-speed state, react to unexpected developments, and accelerate powerful attacks 310 390 393.
  • Scarlet Sky’s End: A specialized attack capable of contending with Conqueror’s Coating. Develops both an instant version and more powerful charged versions; the slowest charge is impractical in ordinary combat because it requires companions to hold the opponent off and still may miss 310 316 324.
  • Crimson Heaven Dragon Vengeful Slash: Combines Flurry Rush, Valor Style, Demon Blade: Rakshasa, and the Silkbind Attack Strongarm Stance for a powerful counter used against Kaido 393 575.
  • Iai: Sunbreak Eclipse: Meets Mihawk’s strongest slash head-on during their later Marineford duel 769.

Silkbind and Companion Combination Techniques

  • Dudusi eventually serves as a Wirebug substitute and an ordinary grappling hook. Its limited strength makes many Silkbind Attacks unsuitable against stronger opponents, but self-enhancing moves such as Herculean Draw and Soaring Wyvern Blade remain useful 355.
  • Some techniques remain dependent on materials rather than movement alone. Charged Sword Oil, for example, requires Wirebug secretions, so a functional substitute for Wirebug mobility does not automatically make it usable 329.
  • Shalmeow can possess him and surround him with lightning, creating a state he compares to Mink Tribe Mode or Chidori Stream. With Hua Mei Meow counteracting Rayleigh’s Observation Haki Killer, he can react to and keep pace with Rayleigh’s attack, though he still loses the direct clash 310.
  • Combines with Klee for flaming slashes against pirate fleets 188.
  • With Klee transformed into flame armor and wings, performs Feline Combination Technique: Heavenly Dance: Blazing Inferno, launching a large flaming slash during the assault on Uranus 793.

Hunter’s Notes and Companion Summoning

  • Dynamic map: Tracks his position, companions, and exploration percentage. Touring settlements and viewing sufficiently useful maps can reveal or prerender larger areas 3 32 33.
  • Bestiary: Small-monster entries require seeing the creature’s complete appearance and making direct contact. Unfamiliar animals may require a tentative name chosen by Xie Wen 5.
  • Summoning rewards: Unlocking pages can provide Companion Summoning Tickets or fragments. He summons Klee with a complete ticket and later reaches two-thirds of another ticket after unlocking the Sea Kings page 16 20.
  • Weapon rewards: Registering the first Great Grade Sword provides an extra Silver-Gray Summon Ticket Fragment. Shusui later supplies the third weapon fragment needed for another complete ticket 73 289.
  • Map completion: A complete East Blue map recovered from Arlong Park fills the Notes’ corresponding virtual sea chart to one hundred percent 97.
  • Summoning restriction: Sanji Meow cannot activate a Summon Ticket during his attempt, prompting Xie Wen to take it back 98.
  • Fruit-based selection: A completed Paramecia ticket can switch between designs associated with different registered fruits as Xie Wen manipulates it. He uses compatibility with an available fruit as a consideration when selecting a summon 365 366.
  • Artificial fruits: Uses the artificial Sakura Dragon Fruit as the summoning medium for Kaido Meow 451 453.
  • Limits: Several pages begin locked, and their conditions require experimentation. Meeting Bege does not unlock the “story character catalog” Xie Wen had speculated might exist 3 36 46.
  • Uneven rewards: Cracker’s Pretzel registers without providing a fragment, the apology Poneglyph yields no collection reward, and Sakazuki’s Magma-Magma Fruit provides only two Logia Fragments rather than an immediate new summon 214 341 748.
  • Late exploration condition: Even after Grand Line map completion passes seventy-five percent, the Notes identifies a missing core exploration area. Reaching Laugh Tale opens a red portal leading to Cocoyasi Village 817.

Trivia

  • The author chose “Xie Wen” as a name intended to work in both Chinese and the novel’s Western-leaning setting. The Chapter 1 note gives “Sherwin” as its English rendering, glosses it as “swift runner,” and suggests the nickname “Xie Pao Pao” 1.
  • Xie Wen tells Klee a serialized story called “Naruto the Cat” and later uses Kabuto Yakushi as a familiar comparison when explaining what an agent is 46 48.
  • Dislikes “Cat Swordsman” because he thinks the epithet better suits Meow Jūshirō. Morgans’s promotion of “Sapphire Star” finally allows him to replace it publicly 151 153.
  • Refers humorously to his petting technique as Kato Cat’s Paw, which proves effective on many species and makes him especially popular on Zou 435.
  • His tokusatsu enthusiasm leads him to strike a Kamen Rider transformation pose and announce “Henshin!” when Ai Haibara Meow’s cat-paw device activates 210.
  • Despite collecting Devil Fruits, he prefers to retain his ability to swim so that he can help companions who cannot. He is particularly interested in the String-String Fruit as a possible substitute for Wirebugs, especially if its power could be granted to an object 168.
  • Frequently begins adaptations of stories from his former world without finishing them. Requests from the cats include Demon Slayer, “Kitten Bao Qingtian,” Drunken Master, and a reworked Transformers centered on ships 432.
  • Sometimes treats Klee as a source of good luck when seeking catalog rewards, raising her aloft to request a blessing or hugging her before checking a new acquisition 71 727.
