Chapters 709–735 Vol. 8 Read

Ch. 709Vegapunk's conjecture

Xie Wen learned that the Five Elders had appeared through a mysterious Pentagram and possessed extraordinary regenerative abilities. Vegapunk conjectured that their near-immortality might resemble the toy soldiers created by Sugar’s Devil Fruit, while Xie Wen suspected Imu was responsible; the pirates retreated as Egghead’s barrier came back online.

  • Xie Wen returned to Punk Records, where Ai Haibara Meow and Meowrah told him that two strange figures had appeared through a Pentagram rather than scientific technology.
  • Xie Wen recognized Saint Saturn and Saint Mars as two of the Five Elders and watched Saint Mars recover completely after Big Mom’s attack split and burned him.
  • The pirates retreated under Kaido’s command after Egghead’s barrier activated again, leaving the Five Elders unable to stop them from escaping.
  • Xie Wen asked Vegapunk about the Five Elders’ regeneration, and Vegapunk compared it to Sugar’s toy soldiers.
  • Pythagoras suggested a Devil Fruit might explain the Five Elders’ near-immortality, and Xie Wen suspected Imu could grant it to them.

Ch. 710The smartest man in the One Piece world

Vegapunk offered Xie Wen access to Egghead Island’s research and a Devil Fruit in exchange for helping optimize the Mother Carmel Flame, while revealing his theory that Xie Wen summoned the Palicoes through collecting Famous Swords and Devil Fruits. Xie Wen agreed to let Vegapunk observe a summon, but the only fruit available was a Dog-Dog Fruit that turned out to be a husky.

  • Vegapunk told Xie Wen that the World Government had decided to keep the Science Team on Egghead Island and asked Little Klee to help optimize the Mother Carmel Flame in return for research access and a Devil Fruit.
  • Vegapunk explained that he suspected Xie Wen summoned the Palicoes by collecting Famous Swords and Devil Fruits, and recounted how their arrivals seemed to follow his acquisitions.
  • Vegapunk asked whether Xie Wen had obtained the Dark-Dark Fruit and could take other people’s Devil Fruit Abilities, and Xie Wen admitted his own method had a low success rate.
  • Xie Wen agreed to let Vegapunk observe him summon a Palico, hoping Vegapunk could help the cats find a way back to the Monster Hunter world.
  • Vegapunk gave Xie Wen a Zoan Dog-Dog Fruit but said he had no Paramecia fruits available, then revealed the fruit was a husky.

Ch. 711The Knot

Xie Wen and the cats examined the Ancient Robot with Vegapunk, and Klee Meow sensed something hidden inside it. They found a mysterious slipknot in the robot’s body and decided to take it to Weatheria for study.

  • Vegapunk showed Xie Wen and the cats the Ancient Robot that had attacked Saint Mary Geoise two hundred years earlier.
  • Klee Meow sensed something valuable inside the robot and pinpointed a hidden area in its lower body.
  • Xie Wen used Vegapunk’s scans to find and pull out a concealed metal block with a thick rope attached.
  • Xie Wen and Vegapunk found an ordinary slipknot in the rope and decided not to untie it until they understood what it contained.
  • Vegapunk proposed that Xie Wen take the knot to Weatheria, and he provided an Eternal Pose to help him find the island.

Ch. 712Aftermath and chain reactions

Xie Wen returned to Elegia and reviewed news about Egghead Island, where the World Government had concealed the Five Elders’ involvement and Sabo had reunited with Ace. The new wanted posters revealed that Luffy had received a bounty of only three million, leaving Xie Wen startled by the low figure.

  • Shalmeow welcomed Xie Wen back to Elegia and demanded affection while Robin, Uta, and the Red Hair Pirates joined them.
  • Xie Wen read reports about attacks on Navy convoys and realized the World Government had kept the Five Elders’ presence on Egghead Island out of the newspapers.
  • Xie Wen considered leaking information about Imu and Uranus but worried that provoking the World Government could endanger entire islands.
  • Xie Wen saw a report showing Sabo embracing Ace and realized the Egghead Island battle had reunited them and exposed the Revolutionary Army.
  • Xie Wen examined the new wanted posters, which raised the bounties of several pirate crews and Revolutionary Army members, then found Luffy’s bounty listed as three million, dead or alive.

Ch. 713The little sky island, Weatheria

After leaving Elegia, Xie Wen and the cats visited Weatheria to learn its weather technology and investigate a mysterious knot. When Xie Wen finally opened it at sea, it released an immense burst of Conqueror’s Haki, leaving him puzzled about why the ancient robot had not used it at Saint Mary Geoise.

  • Xie Wen left Elegia with the cats after seeing Luffy’s wanted poster, while Shanks stayed behind to help protect the island.
  • Xie Wen brought the cats to Weatheria, where Haredas examined the knot and the cats asked to learn about Wind Knots and Weather Balls.
  • Haredas agreed to teach the cats Weatheria’s technology, and Hua Mei Meow and Robin researched the island’s climate records.
  • After the cats failed to identify the knot’s contents, Xie Wen agreed to open it and took Haredas and other meteorologists to the Blue Sea.
  • Xie Wen undid the knot, releasing a powerful burst of Conqueror’s Haki that split the clouds and knocked him back, and he wondered why the ancient robot had withheld it at Saint Mary Geoise.

Ch. 714Vodka and the Sheikah Slate

Ai Haibara Meow punished Vodka for wrecking her Weather Garden while Meowrah unveiled a spatial teleportation system aboard the Dudu. The system could bring people back to the ship and support travel within its field, and Meowrah also created a live map using Xie Wen’s Hunter’s Notes.

  • Ai Haibara Meow chased Vodka after the husky Elemental Beast dug up her Weather Garden.
  • Ai Haibara Meow caught Vodka with a Seastone-fitted glove, turned it into a puddle with dark liquid, and sealed it in a bucket as punishment.
  • Meowrah told Xie Wen and the others that she had developed a Spatial Field Generator and installed it aboard the Dudu.
  • Meowrah explained that the device could teleport people back to the Dudu in emergencies and enable spatial movement within its surrounding field.
  • Meowrah showed Xie Wen a live map made using his Hunter’s Notes.

Ch. 715Bug tester

Xie Wen tested Meowrah’s Sheikah Slate teleportation device, discovered problems with its altitude and accuracy, and gave the first version to Klee Meow while Meowrah began improving it. Klee Meow returned from a teleportation trip carrying a battered treasure chest.

  • Xie Wen insisted on testing the device himself before Touma Meow, and Touma Meow eventually volunteered to test it too.
  • Xie Wen used the Sheikah Slate to teleport to the edge of the spatial field and appeared high above the sea, then used Dance Jump to land safely.
  • Xie Wen teleported back to the Dudu and reported that the device needed altitude coordinates and became less accurate after repeated uses.
  • Meowrah gave the Sheikah Slate to Klee Meow and went to her laboratory to make an improved version.
  • Klee Meow teleported away and returned covered in dirt, carrying a battered treasure chest.

Ch. 716You and I

Xie Wen and Klee Meow found a treasure map, and Xie Wen planned to go treasure hunting after meeting Dragon. Meanwhile, Kaido and Big Mom raided Egghead Island and captured scientists, prompting Akainu and Aokiji to clash over how the Marines should respond.

  • Klee Meow opened a treasure chest and found a map, then asked Xie Wen to take her treasure hunting.
  • Xie Wen told Klee Meow they would meet Kuma and Dragon first, and Klee Meow suggested bringing Bonney along.
  • Kaido and Big Mom slipped past Marine surveillance, captured more than a dozen scientists on Egghead Island, and escaped.
  • Akainu urged the Marines to attack the pirates' home bases, but Kizaru and Aokiji warned that doing so would leave Egghead Island vulnerable.
  • Akainu and Aokiji argued over the Marines' response until Aokiji shouted that he was the Fleet Admiral.

Ch. 717First meeting

Xie Wen reunited with Bonney and the Revolutionary Army on Egghead Island, where Dragon asked about the Five Elders. Xie Wen revealed Imu’s existence and the World Government’s hidden history, leaving Dragon shocked by the identity of the real enemy.

  • Xie Wen arrived on the uninhabited island and reunited with Bonney, Kuma, Dragon, Sabo, Ivankov, and Lindbergh.
  • Sabo thanked Xie Wen for helping Ace and Luffy and for offering guidance that had also helped the Revolutionary Army.
  • Ivankov asked Klee Meow for an autograph, then Sanji Meow kicked Ivankov away when he approached Shalmy and Sasha.
  • Dragon asked Xie Wen about the Five Elders, and Xie Wen explained that their immortality might date back eight hundred years.
  • Xie Wen told Dragon about Vegapunk’s theory, Imu, and Queen Lily’s account, leaving Dragon stunned that the Revolutionary Army had not known its true enemy.

Ch. 718Xie Wen: I have three plans-upper, middle, and lower

Xie Wen outlined the threats posed by Imu and Uranus and presented Dragon with cautious and aggressive strategies for the Revolutionary Army. As Dragon weighed the risks to civilians, Xie Wen hinted at another option by asking whether he had heard of Nika.

  • Xie Wen told Dragon that Vegapunk supplied the energy needed to power Uranus, which could erase an island in a single strike.
  • Dragon affirmed that he would not give up overthrowing the World Government, but said he needed time and consultation with his comrades before deciding what to do.
  • Xie Wen proposed continuing to undermine the World Government gradually, while warning that Imu might have unknown powers and could retaliate catastrophically.
  • Xie Wen considered secretly spreading news of Imu to draw him out, but warned that Imu might kill everyone who learned of him or attract followers with the promise of undying bodies.
  • Dragon recognized that every strategy risked heavy civilian casualties, and Xie Wen asked whether he had heard of Nika.

Ch. 720Not in the Mood to Think Up a Title

Xie Wen explained to Dragon that Luffy had eaten the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika, but Dragon refused to pressure his son into fighting the World Government. Xie Wen offered the Revolutionary Army his combat and technical support, then found Ai Haibara Meow and Klee Meow talking with Ivankov, whose attempt to change Klee Meow’s sex provoked an attack.

  • Xie Wen told Dragon that the World Government had concealed the Nika fruit’s identity and that Luffy had eaten it.
  • Dragon recognized that Luffy might awaken Nika’s power but refused to make his son take on the World Government and Imu.
  • Xie Wen offered the Revolutionary Army help in battle, technology from Vegapunk, and intelligence.
  • Ai Haibara Meow asked Ivankov for blood to create an assistant with the Hormone-Hormone Fruit’s ability, and Ivankov agreed.
  • Klee Meow asked Ivankov to turn her into a boy, and Ivankov prepared to use his ability before someone attacked him.

Ch. 721Setting off on a treasure hunt

Xie Wen and the cats settled the commotion over Klee Meow’s request to change Ivankov’s sex, then learned that Bonney had to stay with Kuma. Xie Wen revealed that the treasure hunt would take them to White Soil Island, and Kuma entrusted Bonney to his group so she could join them.

  • Xie Wen scolded Klee Meow, Ai Haibara Meow, and Jinx Meow for encouraging Ivankov’s sex change, while Ivankov defended his freedom to become a new human.
  • Klee Meow reminded Xie Wen that she and Bonney had planned a treasure hunt using Klee’s recently acquired treasure map.
  • Kuma said he could not join them because the Revolutionary Army needed him to gather its officers and discuss its next direction.
  • Bonney chose to remain with Kuma, but Xie Wen explained that his group would visit White Soil Island after the treasure hunt.
  • Kuma entrusted Bonney to Xie Wen, and Klee Meow cheered and celebrated with her friend.

Ch. 722That Damn Translation

Xie Wen and the Little Furball Cats followed Klee Meow’s Treasure Map through several islands to Trans-Town, where Robin’s translation of ancient temple writings warned of a Lord of Blood and a Dark Night Monarch. Recognizing the town’s name from a mistranslation, Xie Wen realized they had reached a place tied to a familiar story.

  • Klee Meow remembered that she had blast-fished with Jumpy Dumpty near the cave where she found the Treasure Map, helping Xie Wen identify the island.
  • Shirahoshi used Purah’s instrument to estimate that the island would take seven hours to store its magnetism, while Xie Wen and Robin investigated the cave ruins.
  • Robin identified the cave as a buried temple and warned Vodka not to disturb the ruins; Xie Wen’s group collected rubbings of its inscriptions and images.
  • Xie Wen and the others followed the Treasure Map across several settled islands and reached the sparsely populated island of Trans-Town in under three days.
  • Robin reported that the temple inscriptions frequently mentioned a Lord of Blood and a Dark Night Monarch, and Xie Wen recognized Trans-Town as a place obscured by a widespread mistranslation.

Ch. 723Sleepy (Crossed Out) Torans Town

Xie Wen and the cats arrived in the isolated Torans Town, where Klee Meow set off to hunt for treasure while the others stayed at the town’s old inn. Shalmeow sensed an unfriendly group approaching the inn, leaving their intentions unclear.

  • Chief Maroma greeted Xie Wen’s group and was startled when Klee Meow spoke, then invited them to stay at her family’s aging inn.
  • Xie Wen let Klee Meow, Robin, and the other little cats explore the island while he, Hua Mei Meow, and Kaido Meow stayed behind.
  • Shalmeow cuddled up to Xie Wen and teased Ai Haibara Meow, who insisted she stayed close to him only to keep Klee company.
  • Ai Haibara Meow and Shalmeow playfully fought, and Shalmeow then sensed unfriendly people heading toward the inn.

Ch. 724Kobe and I combined for 83 points

Xie Wen discovered a fleet of pirates closing in on Torrance and realized they had followed him after the World Government secretly encouraged them to attack. He stayed calm and prepared to test Sasha Meow’s Conqueror’s Haki against the approaching pirates.

  • Xie Wen spotted numerous pirate ships advancing toward Torrance, an island far off the usual route.
  • Pirates and Cipher Pol agents had tracked the Toot Toot Forward to ruins and learned Xie Wen had found something valuable.
  • Cipher Pol agents incited the pirates to attack by exploiting their greed and their belief that Xie Wen did not deserve his Emperor title.
  • The World Government sought to drain Xie Wen’s resources, expose his abilities, and punish him for causing trouble.
  • Xie Wen lifted Sasha Meow toward the pirate fleet and said they could use the pirates to test her Conqueror’s Haki.

Ch. 725Athena's Exclamation (not really)

Xie Wen and the cats tested Sasha Meow’s Conqueror’s Haki against a pirate fleet approaching Torrance Town. Sasha Meow’s power overwhelmed most of the pirates, and Shalmeow and Xie Wen destroyed the fleet, leaving no clear survivors.

  • Sasha Meow raised her Golden Scepter and released Conqueror’s Haki at the approaching pirates, who answered with their own bursts.
  • When the pirates’ Haki initially held its ground, Sasha Meow’s power surged until it surpassed Kaido Meow’s and knocked out roughly a third of the fleet.
  • Xie Wen stopped Sasha Meow’s escalating Haki and asked Shalmeow to handle the remaining pirates.
  • Shalmeow cast Lightning Release: Mamaragan Meow, blasting the pirate ships apart and leaving the unconscious crews in the electrified sea.
  • Xie Wen and Link Meow shot down the few conscious pirates who had avoided Shalmeow’s lightning.

Ch. 726The Little Furball Cats' Great Adventure in the Ancient Ruins

Klee Meow and her companions explored a vast underground ruin, arguing over which passage to take while Robin investigated on her own. Robin found a Mythical Zoan Vampire Fruit, but the others crashed into the chamber from above, leaving Touma Meow buried beneath Shirahoshi.

  • Klee Meow told Robin not to help solve the ruin’s clues, and Robin promised to investigate separately.
  • The little ones debated which passage to take, and a vote sent them down the passage Klee Meow had chosen.
  • Touma Meow rushed ahead to prove the choice was lucky, but he triggered a series of traps and cried out in pain.
  • Robin took the far-right passage and reached a chamber containing a purple Mythical Zoan Vampire Fruit on a golden pedestal.
  • Klee Meow and the others fell through openings in the ceiling into Robin’s chamber, landing in a heap that left Touma Meow beneath Shirahoshi’s tail.

Ch. 727Klee Meow: You stingy, bad book!

After Klee Meow and the others returned from the path of trials, Xie Wen helped the battered Touma Meow recover and prepared Torrance Town for the dangers his visit might bring. On the way to Baltigo, the Vampire Fruit unexpectedly earned a full Palico Summoning Ticket, and Xie Wen began summoning a new companion.

  • Little Plushie told Xie Wen about the trials, while Touma Meow lamented his terrible luck and Xie Wen treated his bald patches and soothed him with a massage.
  • Before leaving Torrance Town, Xie Wen gave Mayor Maroma the Treasure Map and a Den Den Mushi number so she could explain his visit to anyone who came looking for him.
  • Xie Wen and the cats flew toward Baltigo, then paused above the clouds so he could check the Hunter's Notes for a reward from the Vampire Fruit.
  • Xie Wen revealed the Notes' secret and the Palicoes' origins to Bonney, who promised to keep the information private.
  • The Hunter's Notes awarded Xie Wen a complete Palico Summoning Ticket, and he changed its design before calling out, "Palico, summon!"

Ch. 728Goofy Cat?

Xie Wen summoned a mysterious Palico amid a supernatural display of darkness and blood-red moonlight, only to discover she looked like Cat Princess from Type-Moon. Arcueid Cat introduced herself and joined the Palico Research Commission, where Xie Wen immediately caught her with a head pat.

  • Xie Wen used a Palico Summoning Ticket, and darkness spread across the sky around the Dudu as a red moon appeared.
  • A drop of blood-red moonlight landed on the Dudu's deck and formed a cat-eared figure in a skirt.
  • The figure rose with a goofy roar, revealed herself as a catgirl resembling Cat Princess, and the darkness and red moon vanished.
  • Klee Meow greeted the newcomer, who gave her name as Arcueid Cat and kept her true identity secret.
  • Xie Wen welcomed Arcueid to the Palico Research Commission and caught her with a head pat.

Ch. 729Chaotic evil

Cat Princess rejected the Vampire Fruit but eagerly took Seastone from Xie Wen, then used it to prank the Elemental Beasts and Bonney. She dodged Bonney’s lightning and turned her attention to Shalmeow, who confronted her as she lunged with the Seastone.

  • Xie Wen explained the Vampire Fruit’s drawbacks and offered it to Cat Princess, who refused because it tasted terrible.
  • Xie Wen stopped Ai Haibara Meow from claiming the fruit, then used Seastone to turn the biting Vodka back into a potion.
  • Cat Princess asked Xie Wen for Seastone, hid some pieces, and used another to revert the Elemental Beasts beside Ai Haibara Meow, soaking her with potions.
  • Cat Princess tried to touch Bonney with Seastone, but Bonney dodged and Shalmeow warned her to stop playing around.
  • Cat Princess recognized that Shalmeow was a Devil Fruit User, then rushed at her with the Seastone.

Ch. 730Gag characters never play by the rules

Cat Princess fought Shalmeow with bizarre gag-character abilities, turning their clash into a chaotic battle across the Dudu’s deck. Shalmeow eventually struck her down, but Cat Princess’s strange laser eyes knocked Shalmeow back, leaving Ai Haibara Meow to wonder whether Cat Princess had been modified.

  • Cat Princess dodged Shalmeow’s lightning by burrowing into the Dudu’s deck, then emerged with hundreds of Seastone fists to attack her.
  • Suika Meow expanded the Dudu’s deck with her Density-Density Fruit so Shalmeow and Cat Princess had room to fight.
  • Shalmeow trapped Cat Princess in a lightning web, but Cat Princess flew into the air using flames from beneath her skirt and dodged Shalmeow’s attacks.
  • Cat Princess used Arcueid Bea~~~~~m, whose physical-impact beams struck Shalmeow and knocked her onto the deck.
  • Ai Haibara Meow suspected Cat Princess might be a modified Palico, while Xie Wen recognized her antics as gag-character behavior.

Ch. 731The plan has changed. Prepare to march north!

Shalmeow fought Cat Princess after Cat Princess's Seastone pranks, then Xie Wen questioned her about provoking the crew. Cat Princess admitted she wanted to create chaos, prompting Xie Wen to decide to get involved in the Revolutionary Army's business.

  • Shalmeow outmaneuvered Cat Princess's clones with Observation Haki and slammed her into the deck, ending their fight.
  • Jinx Meow and Suika Meow offered to fight Cat Princess, but Cat Princess declined when she saw Hua Mei Meow and the others watching sternly.
  • Xie Wen asked Cat Princess why she had pressed Seastone against Sherry and the others, and she said she had done it for fun.
  • Cat Princess explained that she had planned to touch more power users and start a free-for-all, but said she knew where to draw the line and could cause trouble for pirates and Celestial Dragons instead.
  • Xie Wen realized Cat Princess wanted to create chaos and decided to get involved in the Revolutionary Army's business.

Ch. 733White Soil Island, Baltigo

Xie Wen and the cats arrived at the Revolutionary Army’s base on Baltigo, where Dragon explained the island’s strategic value and outlined a plan to verify whether the World Government could still use Uranus. Dragon hinted that he knew a way to provoke the Government into using the weapon.

  • Xie Wen used Uta’s Sing-Sing Fruit World to keep Cat Princess and the other restless cats occupied during the journey.
  • Xie Wen and his companions reached Baltigo, where Bonney reunited with Kuma and Dragon welcomed the group alongside the Revolutionary Army’s five Army Commanders.
  • Dragon explained that Baltigo’s remote, barren terrain made it a discreet headquarters and training camp for the Revolutionary Army.
  • Dragon told Xie Wen that the Revolutionary Army planned to test whether the World Government possessed and could use Uranus before revealing Imu’s existence.
  • Dragon suggested that the World Government would use Uranus to eliminate someone it would not spare, leaving Xie Wen stunned.

Ch. 734Nothing ventured, nothing gained

Dragon and Xie Wen agreed to a Revolutionary Army plan to draw the Five Elders’ attention with false news about Joy Boy and a Poneglyph while attacking Egghead Island. Xie Wen offered Purah’s spatial transfer technology to evacuate civilians, and the allies began refining the plan and sharing research.

  • Dragon explained that the Revolutionary Army would plant false information about Joy Boy and a Poneglyph, then attack Egghead Island to pressure the World Government into deploying Uranus or diverting forces.
  • Dragon argued that Luffy’s possible confrontation with the Five Elders could help awaken his Devil Fruit, and Xie Wen accepted the risk to Luffy.
  • Dragon showed the group candidate islands and raised concerns about evacuating their residents if Uranus attacked.
  • Xie Wen offered Purah’s spatial transfer technology as a way to move people beyond Uranus’s attack range, prompting Dragon to welcome the solution.
  • Xie Wen, the Revolutionary Army officers, Robin, and the Research Commission members discussed how to carry out the plan, while Ai Haibara Meow and Meowrah delivered promised technology to Lindbergh’s Science Unit.

Ch. 735"Nika Ruins"

After the World Government sent Akainu to investigate a fabricated report about Poneglyph research on Fapoket Island, the Revolutionary Army lured him to hidden ruins. Akainu exposed a Poneglyph and awakened ancient giant robots, leaving them rising to confront him.

  • The World Government’s forces settled into a temporary watch over Egghead Island while Akainu and Kizaru traveled to suppress unrest elsewhere.
  • The Revolutionary Army arranged false intelligence about Poneglyph research on Fapoket Island, and Kuzan reluctantly ordered Akainu to investigate.
  • Akainu ignored Kuzan’s warning to spare civilians and redirected his fleet to Fapoket Island.
  • Akainu’s men found a disguised archaeological team carrying a covered Poneglyph near the ruins, and Akainu attacked them with Hell Hound.
  • The team escaped into the ruins after blocking Akainu’s attack, while his magma burned away the covers and revealed ancient giant robots.
  • The robots’ eyes lit red, and they broke their ropes and rose from the ground.
