Daly had explained Spirit Channeling in the original novel: a Spirit Medium let their own spirituality enter another person's spiritual world, allowing them to see some of what that person had experienced.
Generally, most targets of Spirit Channeling were dead, because their lingering spirituality was pure, without too many impurities or chaotic thoughts. Of course, living people could also be channeled, but the Spirit Medium's will had to overpower the target's to avoid danger.
But channeling himself-letting his own spirit enter his own spiritual world-seemed somewhat unreasonable.
Edward took out a bottle of Draught of Living Death and poured it into his past self's mouth to prevent him from suddenly waking up. Then he took out the materials for Spirit Channeling and arranged the ritual:
