Apparently, her life as a mistress had been too comfortable before, and she had never witnessed this world's cruelty, to actually venture out onto seas full of pirates.
But good advice could hardly dissuade someone bent on dying. Besides, they had only met once... well, a few times now. Edward said no more about it. "All right, since we've established that this really was a misunderstanding, I suppose we were meddling."
He glanced at Klein. "Let's go back."
"Go back?"
Olivia froze for a moment. "You're going back to the White Agate? How?"
The two exchanged a glance and said in unison, "Swim back."
"???"
The two then found Aldrich leaning against the cabin doorway and prepared to leave.
Unsurprisingly, Aldrich extended another invitation, this time to both of them. "I'm willing to share half the commission with you, as long as you stay and help."
Edward said, "No thanks."
Klein said, "How much?"
They spoke almost simultaneously. Klein immediately put on an air of composure. "I'm just curious how much those ladies paid to hire you."
Aldrich saw a glimmer of hope. "They pooled together 2,500 pounds. As long as you get them safely to Bansy Harbor, you can take 1,000 pounds."
How much?!
Klein nearly blurted it out. No wonder they were willing to be mistresses. They could casually produce so much money.
He had to admit that he was tempted.
He was heading to Bansy along his planned route anyway. He could earn 1,000 pounds just by making a trip along the way.
But the moment he recalled what Edward had said about the danger in Bansy Harbor, he suppressed that temptation and said coldly, "Sorry, I have other things to attend to."
Aldrich sighed. "All right, I'll have someone take you back."
"No need, we can..."
