Emlyn obediently followed Cosmi down the stairs into the underground area, then passed through several secret doors and entered a spacious gray hall.
In the center of the hall stood a heavy coffin that looked forged from black iron, engraved with numerous symbolic signs and magical markings.
After Cosmi announced their arrival, a deep, aged voice slowly emerged from the coffin:
"Emlyn White, do you know why I summoned you?"
Emlyn shook his head blankly. "I... don't know, Lord Nibais." He suddenly paused as something occurred to him. "Could it be another operation like the one during the Great Smog Incident?"
Before the Great Smog Incident, Emlyn had been summoned by this Marquis, who had told him that Backlund was about to face a catastrophe. Emlyn needed to go back and prepare, developing medicines for respiratory diseases ahead of time to save Backlund.
And so, during that incident, Sanguine had been seen throughout the city. By a rough count, at least a thousand innocent people suffering from illness had been saved by the medicine Emlyn and his father had developed.
Whenever he thought of this, Emlyn could not help feeling proud.
"I have just received another revelation from the Progenitor."
Nibais's aged voice emerged. "The Progenitor told me that the apocalypse is very near, and we must prepare for it. And you, Emlyn White, are one of several keys in the Progenitor's revelation."
"That is also why the important task of developing the specific medicine was entrusted to you last time."
Excitement immediately surged through Emlyn's heart.
I, Emlyn White, was actually judged by the Progenitor to be a key to the Sanguine surviving the apocalypse!
