Chapter 66: Overturning Each Other's Tables
Night fell quietly.
Edward had drawn the curtains early and stayed home.
Tonight was the Crimson Full Moon, the first full moon Edward had encountered since embarking on the Apprentice Pathway.
He had already made arrangements with the great Mr. Fool. If he really heard the ravings again and lost control, he would immediately seek Mr. Fool's protection.
The thick clouds drifted apart, scattering the full moon's radiance. The moonlight shining in from outside grew stronger and redder.
Sitting upright in his chair, Edward suddenly frowned, his expression tensing.
He heard it!
Mr. Door's ravings.
"Don't save me... don't save me..."
"Don't save me... don't save me..."
"Don't save me... don't save me..."
The voice drew closer from afar, sometimes clear, sometimes illusory, sometimes accompanied by sharp, piercing noises. But this time, Edward felt no pain and showed no signs of losing control. He merely heard Mr. Door shouting himself hoarse, over and over.
Despite suffering from corruption and exile, he shouted "Don't save me" with all his might to avoid bringing calamity and suffering to this world. For that, he had even sacrificed almost the entire Abraham Family.
If Klein's kindness was what Edward liked most in Lord of the Mysteries, then Mr. Door's greatness was what he admired most.
Unfortunately, Mr. Door had been corrupted by a Great Old One, and only an existence at the level of a Great Old One could save him. Yet the closest thing to a Great Old One (Pillar) on Earth was the Lord of the Mysteries, whose birth would mean Mr. Door's death. This seemed to be a vicious circle.
*Huh? I remember Mr. Door seemed to be shouting "Come save me" under the Mother Goddess's corruption. Why have I only heard "Don't save me"
