Chapter Summaries

Edward set sail from Bayam with a hastily recruited crew and revealed a dragon to turn the expedition into an attack on the pirate ships following them. He launched the assault on the Ludkin with Annie and Fiendfyre, leaving its crew facing burning flames and a sinking ship.

• One-Eyed Kedge recruited fifty-eight pirates, and Edward departed Bayam aboard the Iron Hook as several ships followed.
• Edward addressed the restless crew, promised riches from plundering their pursuers, and killed the first dissenters with fire before transforming Annie into a dragon.
• Edward and Annie confronted the pirate ship Ludkin, where its captain ordered the crew to shoot them and claim the dragon’s materials.
• Edward cast Fiendfyre as Annie breathed flames, setting the Ludkin ablaze and sending its pirates scrambling in panic.

Edward and his crew robbed five pirate ships, then he robbed his own crew and left them to fight over the remaining loot. Back in Bayam, he told Danitz he had changed his plans and considered robbing a gathering of Pirate Admirals and the Four Kings, though he admitted he was not strong enough to challenge them yet.

Mr. A secured the Lord’s agreement but offered Edward a Secrets Suppliant potion to prepare him, leaving Edward alarmed by the apparent danger.
