After Brian gave Director Bonham of St. Mungo's a detailed account of what had happened and a brief demonstration, Bonham looked like a competitive eater faced with a table full of delicacies. He could not resist asking to give Brian a physical examination-"Preferably at St. Mungo's." Madam Pomfrey had brought that up on Brian's very first day at Hogwarts.

He had let Madam Pomfrey down. He had put it off until today, and now that the opportunity was right before him, with the examination free of charge, Brian had no reason to refuse. He readily agreed, and after undergoing a series of examinations involving specialized equipment, he received this diagnosis: "Mr. Brian, I'll be frank. Even the most stouthearted manager at the wealthiest insurance company in the wizarding world would flee at the sight of this medical report." It was much the same as Madam Pomfrey's diagnosis.

This once again proved the caliber of the Hogwarts Hospital Wing. Brian had expected as much, so he waved a hand without much concern,

said, "It's all right. I'm very resilient, and I can promise to cherish every day," and moved past the subject to raise the idea that had just begun to take shape in his mind.

"Director Bonham, I have a bold idea I'd like to run by you." Brian chose his words, deciding to hedge a little first. "It may be rather amateurish, and a professional like you might think I'm talking nonsense, but I'd still like to ask for your help."

"Please go ahead, Mr. Brian. Consider it my thanks for your cooperation just now."

Director Bonham ticked the approval box for a private long-term room on Gilderoy Lockhart's medical form, then looked up at Brian. His eyes flickered, as though he were considering assigning Brian one as well.
