"You can't take Moaning Myrtle away! Who are you people, and why are you at Hogwarts at this hour?" Cedric Diggory said breathlessly. "What did she do wrong for you to cram her so roughly into a jar, all scrunched up into that pitiful little ball?"
"Hey, young man, keep your voice down. We're-" Number One Employee had barely begun before the director stopped him. Only the two of them were there; the other employees had gone to climb the Astronomy Tower to keep their appointment with Peeves. It was exhausting work that would probably yield nothing, and naturally neither he nor the director could be expected to do it, so they had taken on the relatively easy task of capturing Moaning Myrtle.
"Black hair, gray eyes, tall and sturdy. Hmm—you must be Cedric?" The Ghost Office Director looked over the soaking-wet boy, who was wearing nothing but a bath towel and had clearly rushed out of the bathroom in a hurry, and said cheerfully, "Your father Amos mentioned you when we were drinking together, but he never mentioned this peculiar little habit of yours. You might not remember, but I even held you when you were a newborn, Ced."
He and Amos Diggory had once worked in the same office and had been good friends, but he had later pulled a few strings to get transferred to the Ghost Office as its director. Although they were no longer as close as before, they still sent each other holiday cards every year and occasionally had a drink together when they met at a pub. Amos Diggory's favorite thing to do was boast about his handsome, outstanding son.
"You-you know me? So you're an employee of the Ministry of Magic?" Cedric's head was spinning a little. He had never expected the
