First, the Giant Squid's powerful tentacles had to batter every part of the Dementors' bodies repeatedly, ensuring that these evil creatures, which had nothing to recommend them in appearance, aroma, or flavor, suffered sufficiently severe blows. Then an Isolation Charm had to sever the connection between each individual Dementor and the colony. Finally, large sacks made from the swim bladders of Ashen-Heart Fish were brought out, and the freshly made "Dementor Balls" were packed inside-this was the repetitive work that had to be done before transporting Azkaban's Dementors.
Indeed, transporting living Dementors to uninhabited regions around the world and burying them deep underground or hiding them in the depths of caves sounded inconceivable. Transporting some rather less lively Dementors, however-half-dead Dementor Balls sealed in "sacks that kept emotions out"-was very easy indeed.
"The last one-" Master Brian, who had been working all day, wiped nonexistent sweat from his forehead. He directed the Giant Squid to slam the lone Dementor hard against the ground one last time, worked it over with a few practiced movements, and made a perfect basket. After that, all of Azkaban fell quiet-both physically and mentally.

The cloud hat, given solid form by magic, settled on the head of the Stone Soldier to the prison's left, shielding this scrupulous sentry from some of the ultraviolet rays overhead. Whatever else it did, it would at least slow the weathering process.
