The homework assigned over the Easter holidays seemed to increase every year. This year's workload had even Super Genius Hermione complaining.
But the reason a genius was a genius was that even her complaints were different from those of ordinary dunces.
Hermione said, "There's far too much pointless homework this year. None of it is remotely difficult or helps me improve. It only takes time away from studying other subjects."
"You don't actually have to do all of it, do you?" Ron asked tentatively. "If anyone else skipped their homework, the professors would definitely be angry, but if it were you, I think they'd understand."
They really would understand.
This school year, Hermione had signed up for every subject-even though she had dropped Divination before the holidays, she still attended more classes than any other student.
Unlike students who studied along without enrolling, those who enrolled had to complete the homework set by the professors.
But the professors, including those teaching some compulsory subjects, such as Astronomy and Charms, had told Hermione that she could manage her own workload. She could decide for herself which parts of the homework to complete.
Yet despite what the professors had said, Hermione had still completed every assignment up until then.
During this holiday, however, even Hermione began seriously considering whether she should drop some of the homework that really offered her little benefit.
If Harry or Ron had been given that choice, it went without saying that they would have dropped every optional assignment in a heartbeat.
But they had no such privilege and had to do all their homework. Fortunately, they did not have nearly as much of it. Besides, they had a miraculous tool: the Enchanted Quill.
With the Enchanted Quill to fall back on for their History of Magic homework,
