According to Draco's plan, Bletchley was supposed to ambush Ron and knock him down. Then Harry would fly into a rage and beat Bletchley up, so that when Draco arrived with Umbridge, she could give Harry detention.
Ron, meanwhile, would have to spend at least a day in the Hospital Wing.
Both of them would miss tomorrow's match as a result.
Of course, as the instigator, Bletchley would certainly get detention too, perhaps even longer. But that did not matter. Compared with Ron's and Harry's standing and importance on the Gryffindor Quidditch Team, although Fletcher was Slytherin's starting Keeper, his presence or absence really made little difference-he hardly ever managed to stop the opposing Chasers' attacks anyway.
In fact, Slytherin's current reserve Keeper, sixth-year Rodman Avery, was not much worse than him. Trading Fletcher for Harry and Ron would undoubtedly be a huge win if it worked.
Yet when they arrived, the situation was rather different from what they had expected.
Bletchley was being thrashed by Ron alone, while Harry stood off to one side as though nothing had happened. Instead, that Brown girl seemed to have been hit by a spell.
"What are you doing?" Although Umbridge knew a little of what Draco was up to-and had made good use of it herself-she did not know his specific plan. The two were not that close yet.
So when she saw Ron and Bletchley grappling-well, grappling was perhaps not quite the word; Ron was beating Bletchley up-she immediately called for a stop in her shrill voice.
Ron was in a fury and paid no attention to Umbridge, his fists still pounding Bletchley. But Ron, along with Hermione and Qiu beside him, had already reacted.
"Ron, stop! A professor's here!" Hermione shouted.
Harry reached out directly, trying to pull Harry away.
