Professor Lupin did not appear in the castle at all over the weekend after the Halloween Feast.

Early on Monday morning, however, Harry and the others saw Lupin eating breakfast in the Great Hall.

They also learned something else from Hermione: Tonks had come to Hogsmeade as an Auror stationed there by the Ministry of Magic to protect Hogwarts.

Just like Jacob.

But after Tonks arrived, only she and Lupin knew whether she spent her days protecting Hogwarts or going on dates with him and preparing for their wedding.

Why was Hermione the one telling everyone about this? Because Jacob had told her, of course.

Harry and the others did not pay particular attention to it. They merely used it to tease Hermione and Lupin a dozen or so times.

Before that, though, they naturally had to find Lupin and ask him about the strange phenomenon they had encountered on the night of the feast.

"You mean you were in the dark, saw neither anyone nor any light, and sensed no magic, but suddenly found yourselves unable to move?" After listening to Ron, Hermione, and Lavender's accounts, Lupin frowned slightly in thought.

Harry and the others said nothing, waiting for Lupin to think.

"There certainly are magical devices that can immobilize wizards, but ones that can do it silently, without a trace... those really do seem rare." Lupin scratched his hair, which had gone from graying back to brown over the past two years, and began pacing around the office.

Harry and the others obediently kept quiet.

Lupin was undoubtedly one of the wizards most knowledgeable about Dark Magic and Dark magical objects. At least among the wizards Harry and the others knew, he was the best. Even the school's veteran professors probably could not match him in that respect.
