Without any hesitation, Harry unleashed a Soul Shatter.
Powerful mental energy rippled outward as he used the spell specifically designed to break illusion magic and soul-controlling spells such as the Imperius Curse. But after casting it, Harry discovered to his astonishment that it had not worked!
Yes, it had done absolutely nothing.
His surroundings were still pitch-black, and those enormous eyes above were still looking down at him.
Only now, he vaguely sensed that those enormous eyes, which had previously held not a trace of emotion, only a deathlike indifference, now held a hint of mockery.
Harry was not sure whether he was imagining it. The enormous eyes showed no emotional fluctuation, nor did they seem to have changed in any obvious way. So Harry could not be sure whether the mockery he saw in them was real.
But whether those eyes had changed or not, the fact remained that his Soul Shatter had done nothing to help his current situation.
What was going on?
Harry was utterly baffled. He had tremendous confidence in the strength of his soul, or rather, his mental power, and felt that no soul-controlling magic or illusion magic should have been able to hold him.
The truly tricky part about this sort of magic was that it was hard to realize you were trapped in an illusion. Once you knew, even a very weak wizard could usually break it.
And with Harry's abilities, even an illusion created by Dumbledore should have been easy to break once he recognized it. This had nothing to do with strength; that was simply how illusion magic worked.
Harry did not believe Draco could find a wizard far more powerful than Dumbledore to set up some protection for him.
If he had that sort of ability, why bother dragging things
