Everything that night had been a series of accidents.
But the most unexpected thing was that Draco had not been the one to open the Vanishing Cabinet.
That did make sense. After all, if Draco had opened it, Professor Vector should have issued a warning as soon as he approached the Vanishing Cabinet.
It was precisely because the Vanishing Cabinet had opened so suddenly, and Dolohov had emerged and attacked so quickly, that Professor Vector had not even managed to give a warning.
But that raised a new question. When the professors had inspected it earlier, the Vanishing Cabinet had clearly been closed. For anyone to come through from the other side, it had to be open.
How had they managed to open the Vanishing Cabinet remotely?
Before long, however, the professors discovered the reason.
When the Vanishing Cabinet was closed, people could not pass through it. Either it would not work at all, or they would get stuck in a rift in space-time before being thrown back.
Nonliving matter, however, could be transported through.
The Death Eaters had made an ingenious magical device that activated after coming through and silently opened the Vanishing Cabinet's door.
No one at Hogwarts had thought of that possibility beforehand.
But this left them with a question they did not immediately know how to handle.
Should they arrest Draco?
Although everyone on the Hogwarts side knew Draco was up to something, and the Death Eaters also knew that Hogwarts had found him out, neither side had openly acknowledged it yet.
Besides, Draco himself did not actually know that he had been exposed.
Should they expel Draco now, or try to make use of him again?
Ron's view was certainly to expel him and be done with it. Just looking at him was annoying.
Harry,
