It was nearly noon when Betty Ross slowly opened her eyes. She felt confused for a moment, but her body was exhausted, aching and tingling all over.
"You're finally awake. I thought you wouldn't wake up until this afternoon. There's milk by the bed. Drink some to get your strength back."
Her figure-hugging skirt and long legs in black stockings had been very attractive last night.
Betty Ross was still a little dazed after waking, but she followed Karn's instructions and drank the milk on the bedside table. With something in her stomach, she recovered a little energy.
What did I do last night?
Betty held her head and thought to herself. Alcohol really was trouble. She clearly had a boyfriend, and she had only ever hugged and kissed him, yet now she had given her body away. And she had become Karn's personal assistant to do something other than snag a rich man.
"I have a boyfriend."
Hearing Betty Ross's words, Karn was slightly surprised. Then he saw the traces on the bed and said somewhat apologetically, "Miss Betty, I wasn't expecting that. But we both got carried away last night."
Betty Ross knew that was what had happened, too, so she was merely annoyed rather than hysterical.
"Okay, let's put yesterday behind us. Mr. Karn, can I see the research progress on the Extremis Virus now?"
Once the alcohol had left her system, Betty knew she had probably already exposed herself. She had drunk a little too much last night and spoken incoherently. Not only had she failed to tease out information about the project, but she had thrown herself into the bargain.
