Chapters 76–100 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 76Would you still help me if you knew I was a demon? (3/4)

Su Mu forced Tanjiro to help him track the scent on a comb by threatening his family. After Tanjiro found a house that likely belonged to the person Su Mu sought, Tanjiro asked why he had not simply requested help, and Su Mu asked whether he would still help if he knew he was a demon.

  • Su Mu survived an axe to the skull, knocked Kie Kamado unconscious, and ordered Tanjiro to come with him while Nezuko stayed behind.
  • Su Mu carried Tanjiro into the storm and demanded that he use his keen sense of smell to track the scent on a cloth-wrapped comb.
  • Tanjiro followed the faint scent through the rain, while Su Mu threatened to kill his family if they failed to find its source before dawn.
  • Tanjiro identified a house where the scent was stronger, and Su Mu put him down outside it.
  • Tanjiro asked why Su Mu had not simply requested his help, and Su Mu asked whether Tanjiro would still help him if he knew he was a demon.

Ch. 77No one would care (4/4)

Su Mu rescued Kanao from a swordsman, killing him after he was ambushed inside the room. He left Tanjiro with a warning about the danger to his family and challenged his assumptions about demons before disappearing into the night with Kanao.

  • Su Mu entered the swordsman's room and blocked the man's ambush, then fought back despite suffering a severe shoulder wound.
  • Su Mu overwhelmed the swordsman and cut off his head while Tanjiro watched from outside in the rain.
  • Su Mu left the room carrying Kanao and warned Tanjiro not to help anyone track him, then told him a demon had targeted his home.
  • Tanjiro questioned why Su Mu had killed the swordsman, and Su Mu asked whether humans could kill demons who had never harmed anyone.
  • Su Mu walked away with Kanao, leaving Tanjiro to consider that people would not care whether a demon was good or bad.

Ch. 78Someone would care (5/4)

Su Mu carried Kanao through the rain to a cave, where they prepared a meal from a bear. As Kanao comforted him about his injuries, she picked up her Nichirin Blade and walked toward him.

  • Su Mu carried Kanao through the rain and found shelter in a cave as dawn approached.
  • Su Mu killed a mountain bear, and he and Kanao prepared its paws for dinner.
  • Kanao blamed herself for Su Mu's injuries, but he told her not to feel responsible.
  • Kanao insisted that she cared when Su Mu was hurt, despite his claim that demon injuries did not matter.
  • Kanao picked up her heavy Nichirin Blade and walked toward Su Mu.

Ch. 79Uncle, teach me to cut people down (1/4)

Su Mu began teaching Kanao to wield a Nichirin Blade, while Kyojuro Rengoku recovered at the Butterfly Mansion and learned that his junior Hiroshi Furukawa had died. The chapter left Kyojuro eating a meal in Hiroshi’s place as crows circled overhead.

  • Kanao asked Su Mu to teach her to cut people down, and he had her strike a dead tree a hundred times.
  • Kyojuro Rengoku ate breakfast at the Butterfly Mansion and spoke with Shinobu Kocho about his recovery and a planned feast with Hiroshi Furukawa.
  • Kyojuro and Shinobu saw messenger crows circling above the Butterfly Mansion, signaling that many Demon Slayers had died.
  • Kyojuro recognized Hiroshi Furukawa’s crow, abandoned his plan to make the junior treat him, and asked Shinobu to prepare salt-baked loach so he could eat on Hiroshi’s behalf.

Ch. 80Uncle, I'm scared (2/4)

Kyojuro Rengoku struggled with the death of a junior but forced himself to resume his duties as a Hashira. Meanwhile, Kanao trained relentlessly with Su Mu, who tried to keep her out of his dangerous conflict; the chapter ended with her asking him to hold her after admitting she was afraid of being separated from him again.

  • Kyojuro Rengoku ate through his grief, asked Shinobu Kocho if his injuries had healed, and left for another demon-slaying mission.
  • Shinobu Kocho watched Kyojuro leave and said she wanted to kill every last demon.
  • Kanao completed a hundred strikes against a dead tree, ate the bear paw Su Mu had prepared, and asked when she could fight alongside him.
  • Su Mu told Kanao she should not get involved because he was a demon and she was human, but Kanao insisted she wanted to help.
  • Kanao practiced until she could barely stand, and Su Mu carried her to a resting place beside the campfire.
  • Kanao asked Su Mu to hold her longer because she had been scared of being separated from him, then fell asleep in his arms.

Ch. 81That demon was different (3/4)

Nezuko and the Kamado family feared Tanjiro had been eaten after a demon took him, but Giyu Tomioka arrived too late to offer hope. Tanjiro returned alive, leaving Giyu baffled by the demon that had spared him.

  • Nezuko and the Kamado family asked Saburo whether Tanjiro could be saved, and Saburo promised another swordsman would come.
  • Giyu Tomioka arrived and told Nezuko that Tanjiro had almost certainly been eaten by the demon.
  • Nezuko and the children grieved, and Kie Kamado fainted from the shock.
  • Tanjiro returned home soaked and exhausted, and Nezuko and the children rushed to welcome him.
  • Giyu questioned how Tanjiro had survived, while Nezuko insisted that the demon had been different.

Ch. 82He didn't dare gamble (4/4)

Giyu Tomioka questioned Tanjiro about the demon that spared him, but Tanjiro refused to reveal anything. After Giyu admitted his guilt over his sister and Sabito, Tanjiro decided to move his family because he feared demons were still watching their home.

  • Giyu Tomioka questioned Tanjiro about why the demon had spared him and demanded that Tanjiro lead him to it.
  • Tanjiro said he could not find the demon and asked Giyu whether he could guarantee that it would be killed for good.
  • Nezuko confronted Giyu for pressuring her brother, prompting Giyu to confess that he blamed himself for his sister's and Sabito's deaths.
  • Giyu warned Tanjiro not to trust demons or leave his life in someone else's hands, and Tanjiro said he did not dare gamble while weak.
  • Tanjiro helped his mother up and told Nezuko to pack because they were moving to escape the demons he feared were watching their home.

Ch. 83Even if the Sun fell, new life would never cease (1/4)

Kyojuro Rengoku comforted Tanjiro as his family prepared to move, then led the swordsmen to a cave where a Demon had killed several of their comrades. After failing to find the Demon, he buried the dead and urged the survivors to keep fighting.

  • Kyojuro Rengoku told Tanjiro he could not take them to the Demon and advised him to protect his family with Wisteria candles.
  • Tanjiro chose to leave with Nezuko and the rest of his family rather than tell Kyojuro that he might be able to find the Demon.
  • Kyojuro and the swordsmen searched a cave and found their dead comrades, including a young swordsman whose promised meal Kyojuro would never share.
  • Kyojuro learned that rain had erased the Demon’s trail, then helped bury the fallen swordsmen.
  • Kyojuro blamed himself for failing his juniors before rallying the survivors to keep fighting until every Demon was eradicated.

Ch. 84Not Dad, but... Uncle (2/4)

Su Mu struggled with his growing hunger for human flesh while caring for Kanao, whose kindness repeatedly drew him back from his cravings. They went into town for food, where Kanao insisted on sharing wontons with her uncle and corrected an old man who mistook him for her father.

  • Kanao showed Su Mu her wooden sword after practicing a thousand swings, and he told her to practice ten thousand more.
  • Kanao gave Su Mu a shriveled wild fruit, and he ate it while suppressing his hunger by stroking his Nichirin Blade.
  • Su Mu led Kanao into town at night to find supplies, and they stopped at an old man's wonton stall.
  • Kanao ordered two bowls so she could share with Su Mu, though he said he did not eat.
  • Kanao told the old man that Su Mu was her uncle, not her father, and said that dads were bad while her uncle was the best.
  • The old man served the wontons, and Kanao began eating after telling Su Mu she was about to start.

Ch. 85Demon and demon (3/4)

Su Mu and Kanao gathered supplies from shops in town and headed back together, growing closer as Kanao played a pellet drum. Their journey stopped when another demon challenged Su Mu over his hunting ground and revealed that its prey was the old man who had sold them wontons.

  • Su Mu gave Kanao all his wontons, then paid the old man and watched him leave for home.
  • Su Mu and Kanao broke into shops and took a few daily necessities, knocking unconscious the clerks who noticed them.
  • Su Mu carried Kanao back as she happily played her new pellet drum and asked whether he liked the sound.
  • A demon pursued Su Mu and demanded Kanao as payment for trespassing on its hunting ground.
  • The demon threw down the old man's corpse and offered to trade it for Kanao.

Ch. 86If We Die, Please Bury Us (4/4)

Su Mu killed a demon that tried to trade Kanao for a bite of its prey, then helped Kanao bury the old man. Kanao said she hoped someone would bury Su Mu if he and she were ever killed, and Su Mu silently covered the grave.

  • A demon offered to trade the old man's corpse for one of Su Mu's arms, then demanded an arm from Kanao in exchange for the old man.
  • Su Mu drew his Nichirin Blade and swiftly beheaded the demon after it approached him.
  • Kanao asked Su Mu to bury the old man, and they dug a pit together.
  • Kanao mimed placing the dead demon beside the grave and told Su Mu she hoped someone would bury him if they were both killed.
  • Su Mu filled in the grave without asking Kanao why she had said “us.”

Ch. 87A demon left with nothing but the obsession to grow stronger-Akaza (two-in-one, 2/4)

After burying an old man and a demon, Su Mu and Kanao encountered Upper Rank Three Akaza, who battered Su Mu and killed a Demon Slayer Corps squad. Akaza followed them to a cave, where their care for each other stirred painful, forgotten memories and drove him to train harder.

  • Kanao told Su Mu that other demons were awful, and Akaza suddenly appeared beside the graves and asked what made a demon successful.
  • Akaza attacked Su Mu, easily breaking his bones, while Kanao grabbed the fallen Nichirin Blade and tried to protect him.
  • Kanao's desperate attack stirred vague memories in Akaza, who questioned Su Mu about refusing to eat humans and urged him to grow stronger.
  • When a Demon Slayer Corps squad arrived, Akaza killed nearly ten swordsmen, then followed Su Mu and Kanao to a mountain cave.
  • Su Mu prepared travel rations and Kanao brought him hot water, prompting Akaza to sense a familiar but painful memory and begin training in the cave.

Ch. 88Turning Kanao into a Demon (Two in One (4/4))

Su Mu and Kanao watched Akaza recover fragments of his human memories before Kibutsuji Muzan's influence suppressed them. Kanao began copying Akaza's fighting techniques, and Akaza urged Su Mu to turn her into a demon; Su Mu refused, while Akaza ended by voicing his resentment toward Doma.

  • Akaza trained in the cave until Su Mu wrote Koyuki's name, triggering memories of his human life and his promise to marry her.
  • Kibutsuji Muzan sensed Akaza's memories returning, killed a man at a train station, and turned him into a demon; Akaza then lost track of what he had remembered.
  • Akaza resumed training, while Kanao began imitating his techniques with a wooden sword and he corrected her movements.
  • Akaza suggested turning Kanao into a demon so she could become stronger, but Su Mu refused.
  • Akaza accused Su Mu of intending to eat Kanao and complained that Doma outranked him, wishing for another Rank Replacement Blood Battle.

Ch. 89Far more important than herself, even than her own life (1/4)

Su Mu rejected Akaza’s offer to turn Kanao into a demon, while Akaza argued that demons could surpass the limits of humans. Kanao asked Su Mu to make her a demon so she could protect him, but he forbade her from ever wanting that and stayed beside her as she slept.

  • Su Mu told Akaza he had never intended to eat Kanao, and Akaza questioned why a demon would keep a human girl beside him.
  • Akaza pointed out Kanao’s exhaustion and explained that humans faced limits demons did not, then offered to make her a demon who might join the Twelve Kizuki.
  • Su Mu said he would never let Kanao become a demon and silently stroked his Nichirin Blade as Akaza resumed training.
  • Kanao tried to keep practicing because she wanted to protect Su Mu, but he told her to rest and carried her to bed.
  • Kanao asked Su Mu to turn her into a demon, but he angrily forbade her from ever thinking about it; she promised to obey and soon fell asleep.
  • Su Mu covered Kanao with bedding and sat beside her, continuing to stroke the Nichirin Blade as it seemed to grow sharper.

Ch. 90She Wouldn't Let Uncle Walk Alone in the Dark (2/4)

After months of training with Akaza and resisting his hunger, Su Mu prepared to leave the cave with Kanao as the Demon Slayer Corps investigated nearby deaths. Kanao chose to walk beside him through the dark, holding his hand.

  • Akaza praised Su Mu for resisting the urge to eat humans for months, but warned that he was nearing his limit and urged him to hunt.
  • Akaza left the cave to seek new opponents, while Kanao continued improving through her daily training with him.
  • Su Mu told Kanao they would leave because Demon Slayer Corps swordsmen had died nearby, and she packed her belongings.
  • Su Mu placed a hood on Kanao, and she chose to walk beside him instead of riding on his back.
  • Su Mu and Kanao left the cave hand in hand, with Kanao determined not to let him walk alone in the dark.

Ch. 91No demon could escape this, however unwilling they were (3/4)

Su Mu and Kanao returned to the Kamado home and hid in the cave, where Su Mu’s hunger for human flesh grew harder to resist. The chapter left Kanao keeping her distance from him and hoping summer would come soon.

  • Su Mu and Kanao found the Kamado home abandoned and saw Tanjuro Kamado’s grave nearby.
  • Su Mu and Kanao returned to their cave, where he read the names and words on the graves of the Demon Slayer Corps swordsmen he had killed.
  • Su Mu struggled against his hunger as Kanao gathered firewood and cooked, but eating porridge only made him hungrier.
  • Kanao practiced swordsmanship until she was exhausted, but Su Mu did not comfort her as he usually did.
  • Kanao asked Su Mu to hold her, but he told her to stay away, and she obeyed while hoping summer would arrive sooner.

Ch. 92A true demon (4/4)

As Su Mu’s struggle against becoming a demon reached its limit, he had Kanao chain him up and told her to behead him if she could not find the Blue Spider Lily. After he lost control and begged to eat her, Kanao sat on the cave floor insisting he was no longer her uncle.

  • Kanao picked flowers and spent the spring with Su Mu, who told her to be happy if she was ever alone.
  • Su Mu began losing control and sent Kanao outside to practice swordsmanship while he fought his hunger in the cave.
  • When Kanao returned after nightfall, she found Su Mu gripping a Nichirin Blade and bleeding as he admitted he could no longer hold on.
  • Su Mu asked Kanao to chain him to the cave wall and ordered her to cut off his head if she failed to find the Blue Spider Lily.
  • Su Mu transformed and begged Kanao to free him and let him eat her, while Kanao refused and repeated that he was not her uncle anymore.

Ch. 93After the rain that day, I picked a Blue Spider Lily (2/4, two chapters in one)

Kanao continued caring for the chained demon she believed was her uncle while training alone, then killed and buried a Demon Slayer who approached the cave. After standing in the summer rain for a day and night searching for the Blue Spider Lily, she finally found it blooming in the sunlight after the rain.

  • Kanao cooked, picked flowers, and fed them to the chained demon, threatening him with her Nichirin Blade when he refused; she rejected his claim that he was her uncle and made him wear a flower crown.
  • Kanao trained every day until a Demon Slayer arrived to honor the grave beside the cave; she killed him and buried him in a new grave.
  • Kanao kept searching for the Blue Spider Lily as spring ended and summer began, growing frightened that she might have to cut off her uncle's head if she could not find it.
  • After standing in the rain for a day and night, Kanao spotted a small flower on a green vine beneath a rainbow and recognized it by instinct as the Blue Spider Lily.
  • Kanao gently picked the flower and held it against her chest.

Ch. 94Bathed in sunlight (4/4 (double-length))

Kanao fed Su Mu a tiny flower, restoring his consciousness and freeing him from Muzan Kibutsuji’s control and demonic weaknesses. Su Mu walked into sunlight with Kanao, while Muzan Kibutsuji sensed that a demon had escaped his control and felt a growing crisis.

  • Kanao brought a flower to the chained demon and persuaded him to swallow it, even though she feared it might not restore Uncle.
  • Su Mu regained control and Kanao freed him from his chains, then clung to him as she cried.
  • Su Mu discovered that his weaknesses and Muzan Kibutsuji’s control had vanished, his status had become perfect, and he had gained the Blood Demon Art Devour.
  • Su Mu stepped into sunlight without being harmed, and Kanao joined him as they celebrated together.
  • Muzan Kibutsuji sensed that a demon had escaped his control and reacted with brutality and alarm.

Ch. 95When they met a demon again, they no longer recognized one

Kibutsuji Muzan investigated how a demon could have escaped his control, while Su Mu enjoyed basking in sunlight with Kanao and tested whether Demon Slayer Corps swordsmen would recognize him as a demon. The swordsmen dismissed the idea that demons existed and left, while Su Mu and Kanao laughed together.

  • Kibutsuji Muzan wondered which demon had escaped his control and recalled Akaza's earlier near-rebellion.
  • Su Mu basked in the summer sunlight with Kanao on his back and realized the approaching Demon Slayer Corps swordsmen would not suspect him.
  • Kanao prepared to fight the swordsmen, but Su Mu reassured her and told her to be gentler.
  • A swordsman asked Su Mu whether he had seen their missing companion, and Su Mu said he had not.
  • Su Mu asked whether the swordsman thought he was a demon, but the swordsman insisted demons did not exist and left with his companions.
  • Su Mu laughed as the swordsmen departed, and Kanao joined in without understanding why.

Ch. 96Good morning, Kanao, good afternoon, Kanao, good night, Kanao (3/4 (two in one))

Kanao fell ill after enduring the rain and emotional strain, and Su Mu cared for her as she recovered. By nightfall her fever had eased, and she went to sleep feeling safe beside him.

  • Su Mu took the feverish Kanao to a physician, who prescribed medicine and rest and warned Su Mu to care for her carefully.
  • Kanao woke the next morning, and Su Mu gave her warm water and porridge while forbidding her from training until she recovered.
  • At noon, Su Mu settled Kanao in a rocking chair in the sunlight and fed her chicken drumsticks and porridge; he told her she deserved his kindness.
  • Kanao urged Su Mu to eat too, and they shared the meal before spending the afternoon together in the sunlight.
  • After Kanao's fever subsided, Su Mu told her not to train so desperately or compare herself with Akaza.
  • Su Mu put Kanao to bed, said good night, and stayed beside her as she fell asleep.

Ch. 97If She Had Stayed a Little Longer, Would Things Have Been Different? (4/4)

Ch. 98Impossible to Escape My Control (1/4)

Kibutsuji Muzan confronted Akaza over his failures and searched his memories, where he discovered a weak demon who remembered Koyuki. Muzan realized the demon had somehow escaped his control and resolved to find out how.

  • Kibutsuji Muzan pressed a hand to Akaza's head and searched his memories.
  • Kibutsuji Muzan saw that Akaza had encountered a weak demon who resisted eating humans and had written the name Koyuki.
  • Kibutsuji Muzan recalled how Hakuji became Akaza after losing Koyuki and Keizo, then traced the weak demon's origin to a human he had transformed nearly a year earlier.
  • Kibutsuji Muzan wondered whether Tamayo, the Demon Slayer Corps, or the blue spider lily explained how the demon escaped his control, and vowed to find him.

Ch. 99Meeting again, Nezuko (2/4)

Su Mu took Kanao out for a walk after she recovered, and they stopped at a restaurant where they encountered Nezuko. Nezuko recognized Su Mu and screamed that he was a Demon, leaving the restaurant in shock.

  • Su Mu refused to let Kanao resume sword training and took her out for a walk instead.
  • Su Mu and Kanao discussed whether they preferred a peaceful life in one place or traveling, and Kanao said she would stay with him either way.

  • Nezuko offered to do anything, even let Su Mu eat her, if he spared her family and brother.
  • Su Mu told Nezuko that drinking a cup of wine would count as her apology and earn her brother's forgiveness, and she reacted in disbelief.
