Zebro instinctively grew wary and looked at the tall figure.
He was a Nen user, and a powerful one-
As a fellow Nen user, Zebro had very modest attainments in Nen, but he could still tell whether someone was a Nen user.
Especially when Dio made no attempt to conceal the smooth, substantial Ten enveloping him.
That kind of Ten was impossible to develop without solid fundamentals. It was, one could say, the simplest way to identify someone strong.
Just standing before Dio was enough for Zebro to know that this was an expert he could not beat.
Then had he approached Young Master Kikyo with ill intent?
As a mere gatekeeper, Zebro had no need to consider things that were the butlers' responsibility.
But Young Master Killua was different. He was the only person in this monstrous family who spoke to servants like them as equals.
Young Master Kikyo even remembered to bring gifts back for them when she went into town to play, just as she had now.
So even if it meant overstepping his authority, if anyone truly dared deceive Young Master Kikyo, Zebro would buy her time to escape, even at the cost of his life!

Faced with Kikyo's disparaging remarks, Dio did not even deign to argue. He simply brought a fist down on her fluffy head, then smiled at Zebro. "Hello, Mr. Gatekeeper. I'm this disrespectful brat's master, and a Hunter. Just call me Dio."

Watching Kikyo clutch her head indignantly, Zebro suddenly relaxed.
They get along well. Young Master Kikyo has never interacted with an outsider like this before.
