The members of the First Squad waited outside with Gizumon. They heard a series of thunderous bangs, but no Digimon came out. Their ambush came to nothing.
When word reached the captain of the Guard Team, he reported everything to Kurata.
Kurata frowned, sensing that something was amiss.
Immediately afterward, he received a report from the Surveillance Room.
Although Mo Si had destroyed the cameras inside, the outdoor cameras were still intact. They had captured footage of her leading the Digimon out through a hole in the wall.
"Oh? Rather than using the front door, she chose to break through the wall. This Angewomon is unusual. She isn't some mindless beast..."
Kurata chuckled. He had been indifferent before, but now his interest was piqued.
Wanting to see what this Angewomon had been doing recently, he used another computer to pull up the recent surveillance footage.
He had no idea what he was about to find, and what he saw gave him quite a shock.
The Angewomon in the footage had inexplicably disappeared for a while, only returning just before she smashed the stasis pod.
At that, anger flared in Kurata's heart.
He was not angry at the Angewomon in the footage, but at the security personnel in the Surveillance Room.
They hadn't reported something this important!
Or were those security personnel all useless hires who had gotten in through connections, and hadn't even noticed that Angewomon had disappeared for a while?
Where had Angewomon gone during that time? Why had she come back? Had she wanted to rescue the remaining Digimon? But what exactly had happened to give her the strength to escape...?
Kurata's expression darkened as his thoughts raced.
Something utterly beyond his understanding and control had happened. That was what he hated most.
Just like that person...
Beside him, the captain of the Guard Team hurriedly issued new orders. "First Squad, withdraw! Second Squad, move out and surround them from outside!"
Kurata said, "Capture Angewomon. Don't destroy her."
He was no longer merely interested. He desperately wanted to know where Angewomon had gone during her disappearance.
That meant they had to capture her alive!
The captain of the Guard Team asked in confusion, "But didn't you say earlier that there was no need?"
That was then. This was now.
Kurata glanced at the captain of the Guard Team. Rather than explain, he simply smiled. "I said, capture her."
Although his smile looked quite friendly to anyone else, it sent a chill down the captain's spine. He hastily replied, "Yes, sir!"
He immediately amended the orders. "Second Squad, abort the destruction mission! Capture them!"
Meanwhile, in the hospital courtyard.
Just then, a crimson beam suddenly descended from the sky!
Boom!
Like the Grim Reaper's scythe, the red beam carved a deep furrow through the grass in front of Mo Si, Etemon, and the other Digimon. Looking toward its source, they saw a purple-and-green machine descending from above.
Its main body was spherical, with flat metal arms on either side and green, cable-like tendrils underneath.
[Gizumon AT, Champion, Machine type. An artificially created Digimon made by Kurata. It has no consciousness of its own and is nothing more than a weapon.]
"Huh? What is that?" Etemon and the other Digimon panicked.
They were residents of the Digital World. Even when it came to Digimon they had never seen, they had usually heard a few stories. Yet the Digimon before them was utterly unfamiliar. They had never heard of anything like it.
Even Angewomon, within Mo Si's mind, was just as surprised.
Puzzled, Mo Si asked, "Have you really never seen Gizumon before?"
"No," Angewomon replied.
"Then who captured you?"
"Quetzalmon."
"..."
Mo Si understood. Besides Gizumon, Kurata had three Digimon Hunters under his command.
All three had undergone Bio-Digimon Surgery, having Digimon implanted into their bodies. By channeling Digisoul through their Digivices, they could then evolve into Bio-Digimon. One of them, a gifted young girl, could evolve into Bio-Quetzalmon.
It seemed that every Digimon Kurata had imprisoned here, including Angewomon, had been captured by those Digimon Hunters.
At that thought, Mo Si warned them, "Be careful! If its Laser Beam hits you, you won't even leave a Digi-Egg behind!"
When a Digimon was killed, it would leave behind a Digi-Egg through which it could be reborn.
Although most Digimon did not retain the memories of their previous lives after being reborn, at least they got another life.
However, if Gizumon AT's Laser Beam struck them, they would leave no Digi-Egg behind upon death. It would be true death, their souls utterly annihilated!
Hearing this, Etemon and the other Digimon were terrified. "Not even a chance to be reborn? That's too cruel! Is it a Digimon Killer?"
Just then, Gizumon AT's arms suddenly extended, lashing at Mo Si from both sides like a pair of whips.
Mo Si leaped lightly, rising three meters into the air. As she spread her wings and glided, she kept her eyes fixed on Gizumon AT, watching out for its Laser Beam.
At the slightest sign that it was about to fire, she would dodge immediately.
If she was hit, her soul would be annihilated too.
Seeing Mo Si take flight, Gizumon AT flew up after her, rapidly closing the distance.
Perfect!
As Gizumon AT approached, Mo Si immediately gathered her strength and threw a punch.
Bang!
With a tremendous crash, Gizumon AT's body pitched backward. It was driven back three or four meters, even gouging a two-meter-long furrow in the ground. Then it raised its head. It did not scream; it simply regrouped and continued approaching Mo Si.
It was a completely emotionless machine!
There was only a tiny dent where the punch had landed.
"What?! That's all the damage it took?" Etemon and the other Digimon were astonished.
Mo Si's heart tightened as well.
Her Holy Spiral Fist could punch a hole through a twenty-centimeter-thick wall, yet it had only left a small dent in Gizumon AT.
What incredible defense!
Mo Si was a Digimon with two minds in one body. Besides her own consciousness, Angewomon's consciousness also resided within her.
Angewomon quickly analyzed the data and said, "You need to increase your destructive power tenfold to break through Gizumon's shell."
Tenfold?
Mo Si gritted her teeth. Are you kidding me? I don't know Kaioken!
Even if she had time to charge up and put everything she had into it, she could at most double her attack's destructive power.
And she needed ten times the destructive power to break through it. A chrome digizoid shell really was something else.
The stages of Digimon evolution were divided into In-Training, Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, and Mega.
Generally speaking, a Champion was no match for an Ultimate.
Sometimes, however, the circumstances were anything but general.
Take the Gizumon AT before her. Although it was only a Champion, it was a Machine-type Digimon with a shell made of sturdy chrome digizoid. Even an ordinary Ultimate Digimon could not break through its defenses.
As an Angewomon, Mo Si was not inherently suited to destructive attacks.
Even if she took over Myotismon or ZombieSatanmon, the same would hold true. Both were Digimon that relied more on special abilities than destructive power.
Right, could ZombieSatanmon's ability immobilize Gizumon AT?
At this point, she could only give it a try.
"Full-body Take Over: ZombieSatanmon Soul!"
Mo Si made her decision at once and used Take Over Magic.
Her clothes changed into a style resembling Red Skull's. Tall black boots appeared on her legs, and the wings on her back merged into a massive pair of Demon Wings. Most importantly, there was the staff in her left hand...
The jewel at the tip of the staff emitted a light that pierced Gizumon AT's single eye.
Although Gizumon AT possessed formidable physical defenses, its low intelligence also made it inflexible. This was a weakness shared by almost all Machine-type Digimon.
ZombieSatanmon's data-destroying power immediately spread through Gizumon AT's body. Its movements froze, and a moment later, it collapsed to the ground.
"It worked! Hurry, let's go!"
Mo Si breathed a sigh of relief, then dispelled her Take Over Magic and led the Digimon out of the hospital.
She knew Gizumon were mass-produced. Dealing with just one had already been this difficult. If they stayed until a second and third Gizumon arrived, they would no longer be able to escape even if they wanted to.
Of all the possible strategies, retreat was the best!
"How is that possible?"
Watching the scene through the surveillance feed, Kurata was secretly startled.
He had invaded the Digital World for years and collected information on many Digimon, including Angewomon. He certainly did not remember Angewomon having the ability to assume such a form. It was practically a transformation from angel to demon.
Then a faint smile returned to Kurata's face. "Hmph. It seems there's another secret."
An Angewomon this fascinating had to be captured for research.
He then made a call, contacting the Digimon Hunters under his command.
"There's a new mission."
