Lu Mingfei walked to the door, unlocked it, and saw Nono standing in the hallway with her arms folded, her gaze resting on his slightly rumpled shirt.
"Why did you lock the door?" she asked.
"Zero needed to change, so I-"
"Lu Mingfei," Zero said from behind him, "get my slippers for me."
"Oh."
Lu Mingfei turned and walked away. Nono saw Zero standing barefoot in front of the desk in a loosely tied bathrobe. Her pale blond hair spilled over her shoulders, and a lace-up evening gown lay in a heap at her feet, its black ribbons trailing across the floor. One high heel leaned against a desk leg; the other lay on its side by the bed.
"Did you two..." Nono struggled to speak. "Even have ten minutes?"
"I think so." Lu Mingfei thought back seriously. "Why?"
Only ten minutes? Nono couldn't help looking back and forth between them.
Lu Mingfei returned with the slippers and crouched to set them by Zero's feet. Zero slipped them on and looked up at Nono. "What did you come here for?"
Nono glanced at the evening gown on the floor.
"Did I come at a bad time?"
"No, your timing's perfect," Lu Mingfei said. "I actually have something I wanted to ask you."
"Wh-what did you want to ask?" Nono hesitated by the door.
"Want to come in?" Zero asked calmly as she gathered up her clothes.
"Fine, I'll come in!"
