| Divine existence within Marika | 214 | Created by the Golden Order as Marika’s male aspect. Possesses an independent soul but shares her transformable divine body. |
| Full, intact divine power demonstrated | 369 370 371 374 | Overwhelms the Carian alliance, including his three children. His strength is identified as that of a genuine God, not merely an Elden Lord; this is a revelation of existing power rather than a new transformation. |
| Independent, demigod-level body | 481 | The Erdtree’s power and the silver cocoon’s abilities reshape a separate body for him. He loses Marika-level strength but remains powerful enough to protect himself and his family. |
Appearance
- Build: Tall and well-proportioned, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and a comparatively slender silhouette rather than Godfrey’s massive musculature 49 365.
- Hair and eyes: Long, flowing red hair and golden eyes. His red hair remains unchanged after separation from Marika 194 459 481.
- Features: Handsome, with soft features described in popular accounts as appealing to both men and women 209.
- Skin: Smooth and jade-like. When wounded in his shared divine body, his chest cracks rather than bleeding like ordinary flesh 462.
- Court clothing: Sometimes wears simple black robes without jewelry or elaborate decoration 194.
Personality
Radagon’s central struggle is establishing an identity independent of Marika and Godfrey. Created rather than born, he resents being treated as Marika’s accessory or merely the replacement for her first husband. Ruling competently and leading Golden Order Fundamentalism become ways to prove that he is a person with worth of his own 214 258 400 462.
His political outlook combines reform with religious rigidity. He believes the Lands Between must change and proposes reducing its military, yet insists that the Golden Order itself is perfect and must remain untouched. Once committed to a decision, he can dismiss opposition outright, refusing to meet ministers who advise a gradual transition away from combat festivals 213 214 223.
He retains genuine affection for Rennala and their children, remembering their domestic life as a happier period and having sewn clothes for the children himself. That affection coexists with controlling behavior: he pressures Ranni to study the Golden Order and later treats war against his children as a necessary disciplinary lesson. While they fight to kill him, he worries about accidentally killing them 214 296 370 448.
His feelings toward the Golden Lineage are similarly conflicted. He wants Godwyn to be well because Marika loves him, but also sees a capable Godwyn—and an improving Godrick—as threats to his throne 259.
Background / History
Creation and the Carian wars
Radagon came into existence after the War of the Giants. Marika needed protection during Godfrey’s absence, and the Golden Order answered that need by producing a male aspect within her. Radagon and Marika became separate souls sharing one body, which changed sex and hair color according to who controlled it 214.
His public emergence came when Rennala united Caria and the Academy while Godfrey was occupied campaigning elsewhere. Radagon commanded a portion of the Golden Army against Caria. The first war ended in a draw; during the second, Radagon and Rennala fell in love 61 255.
Their reconciliation included Radagon cleansing his sins with Stars Tears. He privately hoped the ritual would also cleanse Marika’s sins against the Fire Giants, whose supposed curse he associated with his red hair. Radagon and Rennala subsequently married in the church that became the Church of Vows, with Rennala choosing a little white turtle as the witness to their love 257.
Family life and accession
Radagon and Rennala had three children: Radahn, Rykard, and Ranni. He participated in their childhoods and later remembered those years as happy ones 214.
After Godfrey left, Radagon returned to become Marika’s consort and Elden Lord. He explained that the lord had to be the Goddess’s husband and that no other God was available. Although he regarded the decision as an obligation tied to his creation, it cost him his marriage to Rennala and earned his children’s resentment 214.
Radagon and Marika also became the parents of Miquella and Malenia. Their shared existence remained concealed: Malenia remembered that her parents never appeared together, while Radagon’s daytime government meetings and Marika’s evening banquets helped maintain their apparently separate public lives 49 50 86.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Government and the succession crisis
Radagon presides over demigod reports and the administration of the Lands Between. His reputation varies sharply by region: Carians condemn him for abandoning Rennala, while Leyndell’s supporters credit him with filling the vacant kingship and governing diligently 86 209.
- Rykard’s punishment: Spares Rykard after his plea of loyalty, confines him to Leyndell, and assigns Maliketh to deal with the wounded God-Devouring Serpent 195.
- Combat Festival reforms: Resolves Zhao Si’s tied final through spectator voting, names him Elden Champion, and unsuccessfully offers him a place in his personal guard. He then announces that future festivals will be performances rather than fights and proposes military cuts 213.
- Proposed succession pairing: Favors Ranni becoming God and Godwyn becoming her lord. Godwyn rejects the suggestion; Radagon also warns him to avoid Destined Death because Marika fears for his safety 214 222.
- Demigod confrontation: When the demigods demand permission to fight the Succession War, Radagon declares that he will participate as their opponent rather than surrender his position 295.
War against the demigods
Ranni exposes Radagon and Marika’s shared identity during the family banquet. As the confrontation escalates, Radagon urges Marika to retreat to the Erdtree and reclaim Grace before he takes the field 298 299.
Following the Night of the Black Knives, he emerges fully armored, orders Leyndell sealed, and declares every demigod a rebel. When news of Godwyn’s supposed death reaches Marika, Radagon restrains her attempts to take control, fearing she might lash out at the Golden Order or Elden Ring. He calms her by suggesting that Godwyn may still be alive and promising an investigation 303 321.
Radagon later leads the Golden Army against the Carian alliance. He defeats Radahn, Rykard, Ranni, and their supporting fighters, revealing the gulf between his divine strength and theirs. The victory forces Godwyn’s faction to reassess him as a genuine God rather than an inadequately tested king consort 364 369 370 371 374.
Rennala’s treatment
After his victory, Radagon enters the Academy’s Grand Library and reunites with Rennala, who cannot speak coherently. He promises to find a way out of their predicament and brings her back to Leyndell 372 373.
Believing her condition involves the soul, he considers seeking Miquella’s expertise despite their estrangement. Godwyn carries his message, and Radagon eventually escorts Rennala to Ordina to place her in Miquella’s care. News that she can say Ranni’s name moves him to tears 400 415 428 454.
Battle for Leyndell
Rather than remain behind Leyndell’s walls, Radagon marches out to confront Godwyn’s forces. Their strategy is to isolate him from his army and keep him occupied while Leyndell is reclaimed and Miquella completes his experiment 458 461.
| Opponent | Course of the battle |
|---|---|
| Maliketh | Destroys Radagon’s horse, pierces his shield, and damages his armor and chest with Destined Death. Radagon regains the initiative through repeated golden attacks 461 462. |
| Godwyn and Fortissax | Fight to prevent his return to Leyndell. Radagon shatters Godwyn’s breastplate; Godwyn restrains him with Golden Chains and a cage of Golden Dragonbolt 463. |
| Godfrey | Overwhelms Radagon with axe blows and earth-shaking stomps, sending him crashing across the landscape. Radagon’s escalating hammer strikes fail to halt his advance 469 472. |
Separation and departure from the throne
After Miquella’s experiment succeeds, Radagon sees that Miquella and Trina can exist separately. Soon afterward, Marika abruptly takes control of their shared body and presents the Elden Ring for alteration, insisting that Radagon’s name must be erased from it 474 475.
The Erdtree’s power and the silver cocoon’s abilities subsequently provide Radagon with an independent body. He and Marika meet face-to-face for the first time, then part ways. Radagon reunites with Rennala and plans to return with her to Caria, though Ranni remains openly hostile toward him 481.
Abilities & Skills
Divine Body
Radagon’s original strength derives from sharing Marika’s divine body, making him a genuine God as well as Elden Lord 371 374.
- Withstands combined attacks from the Carian alliance while protecting his warhorse 369.
- Retains exceptional durability even after losing his armor; Godwyn cannot choke him unconscious 462 464.
- Remains vulnerable to sufficiently powerful opponents: Maliketh wounds him, and Godfrey overpowers him 461 462 469.
- His independent replacement body reaches only demigod-level strength 481.
Golden Order Fundamentalism
Radagon founded Golden Order Fundamentalism and employs its principles directly in combat 264 369.
- Law of Causality: Produces a retaliatory golden eruption after he endures repeated attacks 369.
- Radagon’s Rings of Light: Expanding rings destroy incoming stellar attacks 369.
- Golden Spears: Conjures projectiles to pressure opponents while attacking with his hammer 461.
- Golden waves: Releases area attacks through hammer strikes, his footing, and even his mounted warhorse 369 461 472.
Golden Constructs and Mobility
- Creates a Golden Road in midair that supports his charging warhorse 370.
- Forms the Golden Order Greatsword from gathered golden motes 370.
- Uses golden magic to broadcast commands throughout Leyndell 303.
- Bypasses the Academy’s seal and teleports directly to its Grand Library 372.
Martial Skill and Command

- Throws his warhammer with enough force to break Radahn’s breastplate and cave in his chest 370.
- Commands the Golden Army, including Tree Sentinels and Leyndell Knights wielding Dragonbolt 364.
- Recognizes sorcery woven into physical attacks, including Radahn’s concealed gravity effects 369.
Dream Manifestation
- Rennala’s dream contains a version of Radagon wielding the Full Moon Greatsword and combining sword attacks with golden waves and spear-like constructs 449.
- This manifestation is weaker than the original; its performance against Zhao Si does not establish the real Radagon’s limits 449.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Golden Order warhammer — His principal battlefield weapon, used for direct blows, thrown attacks, and increasingly powerful golden shock waves 303 370 472.
- Erdtree Greatshield — Carried during the demigod war; later pierced by Maliketh and discarded 303 462.
- Golden Order Greatsword — A legendary weapon he forged as a symbol of Fundamentalism. Made in the Elden Ring’s image, it also retains traces of the Dark Moon Greatsword 370.
- Dark Moon Greatsword — A sword that once belonged to him. He confiscates it from Blaidd and refuses to return it lightly to Ranni 370 372.
- Heavy plate armor — White with gold ornamentation, bearing Erdtree and Carian crests on its pauldrons, the Elden Ring on its cape, and the Golden Order crest on its chest 303.
- Warhorse — Supports his mounted fighting and golden magic until Maliketh kills it with Gurranq’s Beast Claw 461.
Relationships
- Marika — His creator, other half, and consort. Their incompatible personalities and disagreement over changing the Golden Order make their shared existence bitterly contentious; they eventually obtain separate bodies 214 355 481.
- Rennala — His former wife and enduring love. He seeks treatment for her damaged mind and reunites with her after leaving the throne 372 428 454 481.

- Rykard — His son with Rennala. Radagon values his administrative work but disciplines him over his dangerous schemes 195 259.
- Ranni — His daughter with Rennala. She prioritizes her mother, refuses to forgive his abandonment, and remains hostile even after his separation from Marika 176 481.
- Miquella — His son with Marika and a gifted student of Fundamentalism. Miquella’s rejection of the Golden Order strains their relationship, but Radagon later entrusts Rennala to his care 50 264 400 428.
- Malenia — His daughter with Marika. He admits giving the twins insufficient care, and Malenia consistently places Miquella before him 259.
- Godwyn — Marika’s son, whom Radagon regards with both concern and political insecurity. Their proposed reconciliation fails, and Godwyn later fights to remove him from power 222 259 462.
- Godfrey — His predecessor and a source of painful comparison. Radagon vehemently rejects being treated as Godfrey’s replacement; the returning first lord later overwhelms him in battle 214 259 469.
- Maliketh — Marika’s protective Shadow Beast, openly distrustful of Radagon. He attacks after suspecting that Radagon has imprisoned Marika within their shared body 218 459.

Trivia
- His romantic history inspires novels including Radagon, Hero King, The Legend of Radagon, Love of Gold and Moon, and Marika Steals His Love 61.
- Books maligning him circulate in Ranni’s territory with his knowledge; he acknowledges their existence without making their suppression his priority 462.
- In the volume’s closing reflections, the author identifies the contrast between his domestic warmth, accessory-like public role, and sparse heroic record as a reason for finding him interesting 486.
