• Dark skin and an eyepatch: These lead Arataki Itto to speculate incorrectly that Kaeya might be the Darknight Hero or a sailor 4 9.
• Distinguished appearance: Ganyu describes him as a distinguished-looking gentleman, while Eula remarks that he has “the face of a trickster” 9.
• Punishment costume: His Balala transformation gives him purple hair, a long purple skirt, purple lace gloves, batwing sleeves, pink boots, and black fishnet stockings with visible leg hair 41.

Personality

Kaeya frequently turns other people's embarrassment into a joke. He joins the teasing of Xingqiu, compares Diluc's attacks to those of a Torch Hilichurl, and even echoes the audience's surprise when his own counterpart appears in the broadcast 3 7 10.

He is equally willing to make a spectacle of himself. After completing his magical-girl punishment, he continues posing and performs Swan Lake moves for the applauding crowd. Xinyan praises him for turning punishment into entertainment; Diluc calls this his specialty in being thick-skinned. Eula notes that he is popular in Mondstadt and gets along with all sorts of people 42.

His irreverence has limits. He reassures Kazuha that Mondstadt's citizens understand his disrespectful performance was a punishment, but restrains his own laughter during Ei's cooking challenge because, as cavalry captain, he considers the situation diplomatic 37 50.

Cryo Manipulation

Kaeya channels Cryo through his weapon to freeze seawater into a traversable path 7.

• Diluc — A frequent target and partner in teasing. Kaeya mocks his fighting style and “Man of Justice” nickname; Diluc retaliates by celebrating Kaeya's punishments. In the broadcast story, Kaeya discovers his secret but promises not to tell the Knights 6 7 11 41.
• Jean — His superior as Acting Grand Master. She assigns him to convey Lawrence's disciplinary punishment and later orders him to pay for damage caused while testing his enhanced strength 4 28.

Darknight Hero Broadcast

• Kaeya is listed among the possible identities of the Darknight Hero. Itto's incorrect selection rules him out; Yoimiya subsequently identifies Diluc 4 5.
• Randomly selected to predict Paimon's nickname for Diluc, Kaeya chooses “King of the Torch Hilichurls.” His wrong answer earns the sea-crossing punishment that produces his most persistent nickname 7.
• A later question asks for Kaeya's occupation. Ganyu verifies his signature in trade records, allowing Ningguang to correctly identify him as cavalry captain. Kaeya then joins the reminders of Itto's promise to jump off a cliff if that answer proves true 9.
• In the broadcast, he emerges at Angel's Share as the one patron not planted by Diluc and reveals that he knows the secret. The watching Kaeya had selected “It isn't discovered,” making his own appearance responsible for his incorrect answer in a round carrying a 200,000-Mora penalty 10 11.
• Following the livestream, he checks on people recovering from physical punishments and reports that they are well apart from trembling legs 13.

Knights' Headquarters Incident

• Answers the fireworks collection-code question incorrectly and receives the Balala the Fairies Transformation punishment 40.
