But with the black lump of flesh and the large eyeball having fallen away, Gotō Iwen seemed to have regained some of his reason.
Only then did he realize that he seemed to have turned into a devil. He knew full well how terrible that was, yet he still desperately wanted to kill Asaba Kotone and the other students.
Gotō Iwen clutched his head in both hands, his face contorted in pain. The conflict within him was agonizing.
The Jealousy Devil's influence had been far worse than he had imagined. It had actually turned him into something like a devil, even making him want to kill people!
"No, don't come over! Stay away from me! I'm about to lose control again!"
But his emotions and body were gradually slipping out of his control again, and he hurriedly shouted for Asaba Kotone to stay away.
No matter what, he did not want to commit murder, but he could barely control his body. Even stepping back to put some distance between himself and Asaba Kotone was difficult.
Asaba Kotone said nothing and did nothing. He simply stood there, quietly observing Gotō Iwen's condition.
He noticed that Gotō Iwen had regained some awareness and reason, perhaps because he had just removed the devilish growth from his body.
But now the large eyeball in the black lump of flesh was about to grow back. Gotō Iwen's awareness and reason were probably being swallowed up again as well.
For the moment, Asaba Kotone had no good solution. The simplest, most brutal option was to kill Gotō Iwen outright.
But the way Gotō Iwen had struggled in agony and warned him to stay away made him abandon that option.
Gotō Iwen might have had an odd personality, but he was not evil at heart. The devil had merely clouded his reason. If Asaba Kotone was going to kill anyone, it should be the devil that had made a contract with Gotō Iwen.
Since Gotō can briefly regain his awareness and reason, I'll help him remove the devilish growths from his body first...
With that thought, Asaba Kotone used his left eye's Kamui again, removing the black lump of flesh that had only just begun to take shape on Gotō Iwen's back.
Sure enough, Gotō Iwen briefly became a little more normal again. He did not understand exactly what was happening, only that Asaba Kotone seemed to be responsible.
After a moment of stunned silence, he quickly came to his senses. He desperately wanted to escape this state of being so heavily influenced by the Jealousy Devil, or he would soon lose control again.
In his frantic desperation, he suddenly recalled what the Jealousy Devil had told him: the stronger his jealousy, the more devil power he could wield.
And he really had become like this because his jealousy had reached its peak.
If he could ease his jealousy, perhaps he could escape this state. The difficulty lay in easing that jealousy.
Under the Jealousy Devil's influence, Gotō Iwen was especially prone to jealousy. Conversely, that made it very difficult to lessen those feelings.
Gotō Iwen began trying to forget everything that would stir up his jealousy as best he could.
But barely any time had passed before another black lump of flesh grew out of his back.
"Damn it!"
Feeling his emotions and body slipping out of his control again, Gotō Iwen could not help cursing.
Asaba Kotone had begun to grasp what Gotō Iwen was trying to do. He seemed to be trying to break free of the devil's influence, so naturally, Asaba Kotone would help.
Asaba Kotone used his left eye's Kamui once more, and Gotō Iwen briefly regained his reason and awareness yet again.
This time, he seized the opportunity and, with great difficulty, managed to ease his jealousy a little.
Now he dared not think about anything, terrified that one careless thought would ignite his emotions again.
"Is it finally over?"
Asaba Kotone noticed that the devilish growth on Gotō Iwen's back was gradually losing its vitality, with no further signs of stirring back to life.
Looking at Asaba Kotone before him, Gotō Iwen was momentarily filled with mixed feelings.
Not only had Asaba Kotone done nothing to him, he had even helped him temporarily escape the Jealousy Devil's influence.
"Where is the devil you made a contract with?"
Asaba Kotone put the question directly to Gotō Iwen.
"..."
Gotō Iwen hesitated for a moment, then closed his eyes and took a deep breath before saying resolutely, "In the basement beneath the Devil Research Club's clubroom. He calls himself the Jealousy Devil."
Although saying this would mean breaking his contract and dying, he had decided to atone this way.
Asaba Kotone had no idea what the consequences of Gotō Iwen's words would be, but he clearly saw a devil suddenly appear, poised to kill Gotō Iwen.
He immediately understood something and teleported to Gotō Iwen's side, placing a hand on his shoulder.
At the same time, he activated Intangibility and applied it to Gotō Iwen as well. The Jealousy Devil's lethal strike failed to hit Gotō Iwen.
Thank goodness...
Discovering that Intangibility could prevent the punishment for breaking a contract, Asaba Kotone let out a small sigh of relief.
He had only been trying his luck, hoping to see whether he could save Gotō Iwen. As it turned out, he really could.
The main reason was that Kamui was simply too broken. Intangibility was fundamentally tied to the Kamui Dimension, a separate dimension completely isolated from the real world and exclusive to him.
Unless someone could force their way into his Kamui Dimension, even the punishment for violating a contract could do nothing to someone using Intangibility.
At that moment, Gotō Iwen was astonished to discover that he was completely unharmed!
For some reason, the Jealousy Devil's attack had passed straight through his body without touching him at all.
Seeing Asaba Kotone standing beside him with a hand on his shoulder, Gotō Iwen wondered, Could this be Asaba Kotone's ability?
He found it utterly incredible. Whether human or devil, anyone who violated a contract was certain to die, yet Asaba Kotone had actually allowed him to escape that punishment!
Although Gotō Iwen had not actually suffered the punishment for violating the contract, the contract itself had been completely broken. He now had almost no connection to the Jealousy Devil, and he would no longer become jealous so easily.
After such a painful lesson, he would never again dare to enter into a contract with a devil so rashly on his own.
"Stay here. I'll go deal with that guy."
Naturally, the "guy" Asaba Kotone referred to was the Jealousy Devil.
