As soon as he finished speaking, Asaba Kotone vanished.
Seeing Asaba Kotone suddenly disappear, Gotō Iwen froze in surprise.
Asaba Kotone had shocked him far too many times that day. One incredible ability after another had overturned his understanding of devil powers.
What stunned him most was how Asaba Kotone had helped him escape the death penalty for breaking his contract.
After all, whether human or devil, anyone who signed a contract would be punished with death if they broke it. Not even powerful devils could avoid that.
As for the Fox Devil, who fled whenever things went badly in the original story, that was because Aki Hayakawa's contract with the Fox Devil was rather unusual. He used the Fox Devil's head, so facing a powerful enemy could actually injure the Fox Devil.
The contract's terms certainly wouldn't have been as simple as "you pay with your flesh, and I have to show up and help you." A devil as shrewd as the Fox Devil would never let itself get the short end of the stick. That was why, after Katana injured it in the original story, it simply stopped responding to Aki Hayakawa without breaking the contract.
By then, Asaba Kotone had entered the Kamui Dimension, preparing to transport himself straight to the Devil Research Club.
Pochita could be seen sitting on the sofa, snacking and playing games. The chunks of black flesh Asaba Kotone had just tossed inside didn't seem to have affected Pochita at all.
Asaba Kotone had removed the devil growth from Gotō Iwen's back three times in succession by transporting the small chunk of black flesh at the point of attachment into the Kamui Dimension.
Those chunks of black flesh hadn't landed beside Pochita, though. They were elsewhere.
"Time to get to work, Pochita."
Asaba Kotone spoke to Pochita.
"Woof!"
Hearing that, Pochita immediately put down the game console and hopped off the sofa to Asaba Kotone's side.
Asaba Kotone picked Pochita up, then transported them both to the building that housed the Devil Research Club's clubroom.
Somewhere inside the building.
Space suddenly warped into a vortex, and Asaba Kotone stepped out of it with Pochita in his arms.
Since the Devil Research Club's clubroom was in the same building as their Reading Club's, he had the "coordinates" for this place and could teleport straight here.
Before long, he found the Devil Research Club's clubroom.
The door was locked, but that was no obstacle to him.
Activating Intangibility, Asaba Kotone passed straight through the door.
He didn't even need to look for an entrance to the basement. He sank directly into the ground and quickly found it.
Although the basement was pitch-black, his Mangekyō Sharingan immediately picked out a faint, flickering green glow a short distance ahead.
The Jealousy Devil was probably hiding there.
Asaba Kotone hadn't expected something like this to be lurking beneath the school.
The Jealousy Devil was still reeling in shock. Having contracted with Gotō Iwen, it knew exactly what had just happened. Never mind everything else-that human boy had actually been able to help Gotō Iwen escape the penalty for breaking their contract.
It hadn't noticed that the human boy had already entered the basement. Although it faintly smelled a human, it could also smell humans whenever someone passed across the ground above, so it hadn't paid much attention this time.
Asaba Kotone wasn't about to give the Jealousy Devil a chance to react. With the devil already in his line of sight, he teleported right in front of its face, Pochita already in chainsaw form in his hand.
"Huh...?"
Already injured and unable to react in time, the Jealousy Devil offered no resistance. In the blink of an eye, Asaba Kotone cut it to pieces.
Having easily dispatched the Jealousy Devil, Asaba Kotone immediately transported its corpse into the Kamui Dimension.
Only inside the Kamui Dimension did he get a clear look at the Jealousy Devil's true appearance. It had been too dark to see properly in the basement.
It was mainly one enormous eyeball, considerably larger than the eye that had been on Gotō Iwen's back. It was big enough to fit his entire body inside.
It also had two hands and a body, but no legs.
Leaving the Jealousy Devil's corpse in the Kamui Dimension for now, Asaba Kotone put Pochita back on the sofa, then transported himself back to Gotō Iwen.
There were no other students in sight; they had all evacuated. The police and private Devil Hunters would arrive soon. Knowing he had made a terrible mistake, Gotō Iwen stayed right where he was, waiting to face the consequences.
Just then, Asaba Kotone suddenly appeared before him.
He watched a spatial vortex form with his own eyes, and then Asaba Kotone stepped out of it.
"I've taken care of the Jealousy Devil. As for you, that depends on what the school and the police decide to do."
Asaba Kotone spoke.
He had no intention of interfering with how they dealt with Gotō Iwen.
Although Gotō Iwen seemed to understand his mistake and had revealed the Jealousy Devil's location despite the risk of death, those were separate matters.
He had caused a major incident. Even though no one had been hurt, what he had done was still serious.
How Gotō Iwen would be dealt with was up to the school and the police.
Before long, the police and private Devil Hunters arrived.
Asaba Kotone gave them a general account of what had happened. The two private Devil Hunters then left, but the police took both him and Gotō Iwen away.
Since he had been directly involved in the incident and had even killed the Jealousy Devil, he was simply going to give a statement. Once that was done, he could leave. They weren't going to take any action against him.
It didn't take too long. Asaba Kotone told them everything he knew and could disclose, from his first meeting with Gotō Iwen to the end of this incident.
As for the Jealousy Devil's corpse, Asaba Kotone was a private Devil Hunter and had the right to possess devil remains. He only needed to show the corpse to the police so they could confirm the devil's identity.
Afterward, he could sell the Jealousy Devil's corpse on the Black Market as usual.
Once he had finished giving his statement, Asaba Kotone returned to school.
Since the school was cooperating with the police investigation into the incident, all students and staff had been sent home early, and every club activity had been suspended.
But Asaba Kotone had only come back to drop some things off. He went to the Reading Club's clubroom and found it empty. Kobeni Higashiyama and Rika Matsumoto must have already gone home.
He took all the books he had bought at noon out of the Kamui Dimension and arranged them in the clubroom.
Now the Reading Club finally looked the way it should.
