Lev acted swiftly. By the next day, Roland met Marisbury in Waver's office.
Although "the former director" was what he was most widely known as, he did not look like an elderly, aging scholar. Instead, he was a silver-haired young man with a gentle, likable air, dressed in a neat white suit. A single braided ponytail rested beside his right shoulder, and a soft smile always lingered on his lips. He hardly looked like someone who stood at the pinnacle of mages.
"After hearing Waver describe Lord Animusphere's circumstances, I thought I would have to wait a while before you could clear your schedule. I didn't expect it to happen so quickly."
Roland sat in the seat of honor, gazing at Marisbury before him.
Among the humans he had met, the man's desire and enthusiasm ranked among the greatest. However, no matter how much he acted like an ordinary person, Roland could still perceive the thin sense of morality deep within him. Such unrestrained kindness was often far more terrifying than simple malice.
"Although things have indeed been rather busy lately, keeping an investor waiting hardly bodes well for the future, especially one whose assets exceed even those of the El-Melloi family."
Marisbury bowed slightly to Roland, his tone deeply respectful.
Once he learned that Waver was the intermediary responsible for this meeting, he naturally gained some understanding of Roland's identity. After all, the story of Waver arriving with an enormous sum of money and saving El-Melloi like a hero still circulated through the Clock Tower.
Meeting alone with someone who possessed wealth rivaling a Lord's family, yet never appeared personally and instead directed proxies from afar, was dangerous. But given his current circumstances, he was hardly in a position to be choosy.
Roland raised an eyebrow and asked calmly.
