Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Key of All Spirits bearer; first Contract Spirit draw | 1 | The Key binds to Roland, transports him to Fuyuki, and enables contracts with supernatural beings. His first draw produces Yoshikage Kira. |
| Holy Lord contract | 34 36 | Contracts with the Holy Lord, also called Shendu. Initially collapses under the power, then awakens with greatly enhanced strength, dynamic vision, and night vision. |
| Servant-scale physical combat | 59 60 | Finds that he can keep pace with Servant combat without using his full strength; demonstrates freely shaped flames and burning eye beams against Lancelot. |
| Killer Queen’s Fourth Bomb: Egoism | 84 86 | His desire for a chance to reverse hopeless situations produces an evolved bomb that rewinds threatening actions. Ea’s strike is turned back on Gilgamesh. |
| All twelve Talismans recovered | 104 | Absorbs the Talismans taken from Angra Mainyu. Their divine powers begin circulating together, making him fifty times stronger than before. |
| Falna: Level 1 | 121 | Receives Hestia’s blessing. All five basic attributes begin at I (0), using his already-existing strength as their baseline rather than reducing him to an ordinary novice. |
| Level 1 attribute growth | 124 | Reaches Strength A (882), Endurance B (795), Dexterity S (998), Agility B (747), and Magic A (853). Discovers that Falna experience can restore his recovering Talismans. |
| Level 7 combat-power benchmark | 133 | Described as possessing Lv. 7 combat power while integrating Mana Burst, Fire Demonic Qi, and demon-soul magical energy. This is a combat comparison, not his recorded Falna level. |
| Falna: Level 2; World Development Ability | 134 | His recorded level rises to 2. Chooses the unprecedented World ability, which develops from his own possibilities and gains experience without requiring a status update. |
| Unified soul and flesh | 139 | His body continuously produces refined primordial ether magic. Its quantity and quality have increased more than tenfold compared with before his Contract Spirit assimilation. |
| Adam and integrated cross-system powers | 154 159 161 | Claims the resonant power from the white-robed man. Humanity’s Evil, Thousand Wisdom, possibility, the Fire Demon, and fate merge into his primordial self; the Seed of the Fruit combines Voids and Angels. |
| Heaven Ritual and timeline convergence | 225 229 | Advances through Made in Heaven and converges an immense quantity of fate. Retains a back door that allows him to change events within otherwise fixed fate. |
| Incomplete Beast VI | 239 | Aoko identifies him as incomplete and explains that consuming his other half could accelerate his maturation, provided a suitably qualified woman helps bring it forth. |
| Partial Beyond Heaven power | 285 286 287 | Substitutes the history of his own possibilities for the destruction of Human History and draws back their accumulated power. Explicitly states that the result is part of Beyond Heaven, not its complete form. |
| Full-strength recovery; improved control of matter and laws | 288 289 | His power has outgrown both his Contract Spirits and Falna’s usefulness. Returns to full strength with applications of matter and laws that make him substantially more effective despite limited growth in sheer magnitude. |
| Post-Verethragna assimilation growth | 318 | Physical strength and magical-energy growth accelerate. Battle traces improve his recovery and combat instincts; whether this comes from Campione’s rules or Nature of Strife remains uncertain. |
| Reality-modifying Stand | 340 | Killer Queen, now united with Roland, can modify reality while still manifesting separately. Its paradoxical existence does not invalidate his Perpetual Motion Machine standing. |
| Primordial Dawn | 373 374 | Compresses his id, ego, and superego to draw upon possibilities. Temporarily matches the Winged Serpent’s destructive magnitude, but consumes possibilities faster than he can replenish them. |
| Closed loop completed; expanded capacity | 381 | Preserves his native world and devours countless Contract Spirits. These gains remain unrealized while he is trapped in a state of neither victory nor defeat. |
| Magnetic Field Rotation: up to 250,000 horsepower during awakening | 397 | Electric currents spread through every cell and develop into magnetic field power, expanding his cellular capabilities. |
| Magnetic Field Rotation: 500,000 horsepower | 398 | Reaches the inherited Contract Spirit’s output limit. Deliberately postpones further advancement rather than sacrifice the system’s deeper potential for immediate strength. |
| 990,000-horsepower Hai Hu Explosion Fist | 459 | His strengthened physical body draws closer to his Phase-anchored essence, briefly producing crimson scales and intensely red eyes. |
| Entry into the Cross Church Demon God domain | 516 519 | Recovers enough to interfere with Phases and obtains his “ticket” to becoming a Cross Church Demon God. |
| Demon God manifestation | 521 | Reveals his standing to Othinus and Ollerus, then attacks the universe itself rather than accept Othinus’s ultimatum. |
| Phase override against the Demon Gods | 541 | Uses the Holy Right against their coordinated assault and overwrites Nephthys’s attempted Phase insertion with a Phase of his own. |
| Further cosmological development | 555 557 | Uses Zombie’s knowledge while preparing his Imitation Creation Star Map. Gains command over a universe in which a thought can cause life to bloom or extinguish stars, but still considers this insufficient. |
| Unified Seven Heavens Dragon | 649 | Turns the dimensional implications of Pāpīyas’s overwhelming power against him, renewing Little Garden as the Unified Seven Heavens Dragon. |

- The numbers measure accumulated proficiency above his existing baseline. Hestia explains that Falna draws out growth rather than immediately granting strength through a level number 121.
- World is not his only available Development Ability. Roland can fill in his own panel and conceal abilities already inscribed in his body, including Luck and Mage 134.
Background / History
Roland lost both parents in a traffic accident around middle-school age. Although their inheritance was sufficient to support him into adulthood, watching his remaining resources diminish left him acutely afraid of becoming helpless. He developed a habit of examining the consequences of his actions and relying on himself 7.
The Key of All Spirits transported him alone to Fuyuki City in 1994. He identified the city and period through a newspaper, recognized its connection to the Fourth Holy Grail War, and initially had neither money, legal identity, nor Japanese fluency 1.
His first Contract Spirit introduced traits associated with Yoshikage Kira, including disturbing urges involving hands. Roland initially tried to suppress both those impulses and his own anger by imitating Kira’s unobtrusive lifestyle. After a confrontation with a thug, he concluded that “peace” did not require submission and reaffirmed that he—not his Contract Spirit—controlled his decisions 6 7.
Appearance
- Human appearance: A handsome, youthful-looking man with hair as dark as night and a gentle smile 519.
- Eyes: Frequently described as crimson or blood-red; their radiance intensifies with particular powers 285 314 459.
- Inhuman manifestations: Crimson, jewel-like scales emerge when his physical body draws closer to his Phase-anchored essence. He can suppress these features 459.
- Spiritual appearance: Gilgamesh perceives his soul as a noble, beautiful dragon rather than a mere human 85.
- Presence: His outward warmth contrasts with a supernatural impression of disorder; Ollerus senses gravity flowing outward from him as though its center has shifted 519.
Personality
Roland’s central motive is security on his own terms. His early wish for a quiet life develops into an unwillingness to tolerate threats, humiliation, or anyone standing above him. He describes life as a trial and treats overcoming unease as an obligation, even when the trial involves an unknown or stronger enemy 7 33 316.
He follows personal desire rather than an impartial moral code. His “justice” initially encompasses only himself, and he argues that spreading it throughout the world would make it the world’s justice. He can admire humanity while accepting domination, enslavement, or even its destruction as possible means of completing himself; what particularly disgusts him is pretending that such choices are selfless 87 143 153.
His affection is selective and possessive. He trusts bonds he has personally established, promises not to betray Hestia’s kindness, and values the relationships he forms across worlds. That loyalty does not prevent coercion: he exploits Kanzaki Kaori’s desperation to save Index to demand submission 136 361 445 449.
Despite his arrogance, Roland distinguishes courage from denying an obvious disadvantage. He respects genuine challengers, acknowledges when opponents surpass him, and will postpone a confrontation to prepare properly. Fear remains important to him because overcoming it gives courage and resolve meaning 316 364 389.
Abilities & Skills
Key of All Spirits and Contract Spirit Assimilation
- Contracts: The ring grants access to supernatural beings and their powers; seeking additional Contract Spirits expands its usefulness 1.
- Assimilation: Contract Spirits impart traits as well as abilities, but Roland remains their master and makes his own decisions 7.
- Lasting personal growth: Their influence leaves him with a resilient soul, an exceptional body, aptitude, and experience that he believes would remain useful even without the Key 139.
- World travel: Carries him through the ocean between worlds. As he grows, transfers that once seemed imperceptible become processes he can observe 292.
Killer Queen and Heaven
- Fourth Bomb — Egoism: Rewinds actions that threaten Roland; its reversal turns Gilgamesh’s compressed Ea strike back on its user 86.
- Made in Heaven: Forms part of his pursuit of a new world and the Heaven Ritual 225 285.
- Reality modification: After uniting with Roland, the Stand can modify reality while retaining the option to appear as a separate Stand 340.
- Paradoxical standing: Its Heaven evolution is described as a paradox even by the Root. This permits an apparent exception to Roland’s otherwise unified existence as a Perpetual Motion Machine 340.
- Limit: His initial Beyond Heaven achievement is explicitly incomplete 286.
Holy Lord’s Soul, Fire Demonic Qi, and Talismans
- Physical enhancement: Grants extraordinary strength, resilience, dynamic vision, and night vision 36.
- Flame control: Roland molds fire freely, including into compressed beams fired from his eyes 60.
- Combined destructive power: Dragon Talisman power and Fire Demonic Qi melt Black Mud capable of enduring Noble Phantasm attacks 104.
- Talisman integration: All twelve divine powers circulate within his body after their recovery 104.
- Recovery through experience: Falna experience can be redirected into restoring the Talismans 124.
- Demon Wizard techniques: Uses ritual implements and chants to cast Lo Pei’s Sealing Spell after Verethragna seals two of his other foundations 314.
Falna Skills and World
| Ability | Documented effect |
|---|---|
| Thousand Wisdom | Allows him to learn magic below the level of his wisdom regardless of normal prerequisites 121 124. |
| Incarnation of Possibility | Accelerates growth and produces further breakthroughs when talent reaches its limit 121 124. |
| Blessed One | Guides luck-dependent outcomes toward those most aligned with his wishes 121 124. |
| World | A unique sense reflecting his expanding possibilities; develops continuously without status updates and provides a world-oriented perspective 134 139 170. |
- Ultimate limitation: Falna eventually stops benefiting him once his magnitude far exceeds that of DanMachi’s gods 288.
Humanity’s Evil, Adam, and AT Field
- Beast foundation: Humanity’s Evil is one of the foundations of his existence, not merely a technique he activates 260 314 373.
- Adam: Integrates his accumulated powers into a primordial identity; he refuses to treat the roles of Adam, Lilin, human, and Satan as mutually exclusive 159.
- AT Field: Its full release lets him overcome the gods through strength and an information advantage, though he acknowledges that their united opposition would still require caution 161.
- Cross-system integration: The Seed of the Fruit combines Voids and Angels, helping merge powers from different systems 161.
- Beast limitation: The position carries a function tied to destroying Human History. Roland seeks its power without accepting that obligation 260 285.
Fate, Time, and Possibilities
- Fate convergence: Embeds his fate in the Akashic Records and converges possibilities across timelines 229 286.
- Time and space: Can stop time, tear space apart barehanded, and travel between worlds 260.
- Self-derived history: Uses history generated from his own possibilities to pay an expenditure that a Beast would normally impose on Human History 285.
- Primordial Dawn: Draws on the whole of his existence to reshape and expand the world through possibilities 373 374.
- Resource limit: Against the Winged Serpent, possibilities only let him match its magnitude. They do not become independent extra power, and their consumption exceeds their replenishment 374.
Magnetic Field Rotation and Combat Technique
- Cellular versatility: Incorporates biological functions from beings below his order of magnitude; can potentially transform his cells into real animals 397.
- God-Slaying Thunderbolt: Maximizes antimatter power accessible at 750,000 horsepower, then uses the Complete Boundary to concentrate its destruction into restrained sword light 507.
- Fine control: Achieves nanometer-scale precision, allowing concentrated attacks to injure Artosh despite a vast difference in magnitude 357.
- Defensive technique: Reflects or absorbs energy and uses Shaori to distribute impacts throughout his body 357.
- Weapon understanding: Pursues unity between person and weapon, treating a weapon’s meaning and character as means of controlling power more freely 441.
Demon God Powers and the Holy Right
- Phase interference: Can alter the world through Phases and overwrite Nephthys’s attempted insertion 516 541.
- Holy Right: Forces contests of raw power and counters the Demon Gods’ coordinated assault 519 541.
- Matter manipulation: Reassembles matter into clothing through energy, which he regards as elementary at his recovered level 289.
- Magical reproduction: Following his accumulated studies and Heaven Ritual, he can find ways to reproduce phenomena that are possible within the universe’s rules 285.
- Cosmological limit: His defeat by the Serpent of the Sixth Heaven exposes the difference between having a universe assist him and possessing a cosmology that encompasses its worlds’ logic 555.
Little Garden and the Unified Seven Heavens Dragon
- Multiple Principles: Little Garden is built from four Principles of the Path and can encompass gods, Buddhas, Star Spirits, and Dragons 649.
- Human-centered foundation: Roland deliberately makes human history its foundation and the Solar System its center because of his love for humanity 649.
- Counter to Immeasurable Numbers: Exploits the dimensional logic opposing Pāpīyas’s Principle, which expands alongside the enemy’s immense strength 649.
- Transformation: Uses the resulting paradox to renew Little Garden as the Unified Seven Heavens Dragon 649.

- Akiha Tohno — Shares a teacher-and-friend relationship with him. Previously called him her big brother before adopting “Teacher” as she grew older 625.

- Crimson Moon — Declares Roland the only acceptable prospective husband, believing he can carry civilization, planetary history, and the world into the future 642.
Allies and Adversaries
- Zouken Matou — An early transactional ally who invests in Roland’s Holy Grail War prospects and transfers Sakura to him 15 17 34.
- Aleister — A mutually necessary but distrustful collaborator: Roland needs his preparations and home-ground advantage, while Aleister needs Roland’s otherworldly power 395.
- Misaki Shokuhou — Helps test the Dream Creator and offers Talent Workshop researchers as experimental subjects 415.
- Accelerator — Recruited into the Blue Dream Company after Roland restores Vector Control with a modified Dream Creator and opens further power-development options 496.
- Kanzaki Kaori — Coerced into bargaining for Index’s safety; Roland uses the promised transfer of lifesaving knowledge to demand escalating submission 445 449.
- Verethragna — A dangerous opponent whose Golden Sword seals Roland’s Beast and infinity statuses. Roland responds with Demon Wizard techniques and later experiences growth from the encounter 314 318.
- Othinus — Initially an opponent who refuses coexistence between creators’ worlds; later discusses his cosmological shortcomings with him and offers to delay the Serpent 521 555.
- Pāpīyas — A final-scale adversary who calls Roland “brother.” Roland’s inheritance of the Serpent’s survival impulse gives him unusual significance to Pāpīyas, but does not prevent their battle 648 649.
