Before the boundless gray fog whose end could not be seen, two figures walked silently, one behind the other. Compared with the fog barrier that joined the sky, its top lost from sight, they were so tiny they were almost invisible.
The sun gradually sank westward, moving past its zenith and drawing closer to the distant horizon.
"You actually chose to walk all this way," Edward could not help saying. "Does this make you feel at peace?"
"The feeling of walking upon the earth is something to be nostalgic about," the True Creator said softly. "Several epochs ago, I walked across the Eastern Continent like this, searching for traces of humanity, searching for the reason I had come here and what I was meant to do. It all feels like yesterday."
But the terrain of the Eastern Continent had changed enormously. As he walked, he discovered that many mountains had vanished without a trace, rivers and lakes had dried into enormous fissures and basins, and the remains of some destroyed towns and villages lay hidden amid vegetation, becoming nests for Beyonder Creatures.
After nightfall, the Forsaken Land of the Gods revealed its true appearance, gradually overlaying the image of the Eastern Continent in the True Creator's distant memories.
"Looking at your reactions, I always find myself wondering what 'humanity' really is."
Edward studied the True Creator's profile, movements, and expressions for a while before slowly saying, "Is it human sociality, human instinct, human virtue, or a way of understanding and experiencing the world as oneself?"
"I feel as though you're searching for how things felt in the past. Doing this gives you more feelings."
The True Creator tilted his head.
"You've had so many different identities and experiences, and imitated humans for so long, yet you can't understand humanity?"
