Sefirah naturally would not go mad like Death had back then. They would only clash with one another slightly, within certain limits.
To put it more plainly, they were like two experimental reagents with conflicting properties. With only a small amount of each, there would only be a minor repulsion-like Death going mad all by himself. But if the quantities on both sides kept increasing, the mutual repulsion would undergo a qualitative change, eventually leading to an explosion.
