"Klein's residence."
He ripped open the belly of the last thug who tried to flee. Blood splashed onto the ground and walls, forming irregular patterns.
Blood flowed silently across the ground, steaming in the winter night before quickly cooling and congealing. Edward quietly watched it flow, waiting for it to clot and darken all around him.
"...Five, actually," he said slowly. "He never told me he'd moved. His family seemed fairly well-off at the very beginning. One is his residence in Backlund, 15 Minsk Street, which he rented as Moriarty. Another is an ordinary room in the East Borough. The other two former residences are right next to each other, on Iron Cross Street and at 2 Daffodil Street. Very close... They seem to be within the same city."
"That city is Tingen... What a coincidence."
Edward fished a bottle labeled "Church of Evernight-Nightmare-Soul" out of a corner of his Display Cabinet. Holding it in his hand, he asked softly against the glass, "Do you know someone named Klein Moretti?"
The response he received could only be described as intense.
It was a blend of hatred, terror, and sorrow, so complex and fierce, sweet and refreshing like his favorite tiramisu layer cake, refrigerated, no less. What a lovely coincidence. You happened to come from the same city, and not only were you both Beyonders, you knew each other as well. Then Klein was very likely a member of the Church of Evernight too-Edward raised an eyebrow, suddenly remembering something.
He seemed to have perhaps, probably, indeed seen a Klein Moretti in Ince Zangwill's Notebook who "had something special about him" and "for some unknown reason had not died like the others." He had simply noted this person down as "Clown."
