Background / History
The village chief brought Miltank to Tong Hua by cart to help him establish his new ranch. She had been imported from Johto, and the chief recommended her because her Moomoo Milk fetched a good price. He supplied the milking equipment, demonstrated its use, and explained her feeding and daily care requirements 3.
Miltank had been grazing with a group of companions before abruptly joining Tong Hua’s household. Initially left indoors because the pasture fence was damaged, she became lonely and distressed. Tong Hua comforted her upon returning and took her outside, where fresh grass, open air, and room to roll restored her spirits. By the following day, she had adjusted to her new home 4 6 12.
Appearance
- Round body: Tong Hua nudges her aside with his knee, and she frequently travels by rolling 25.
- Two small horns: Tong Hua strokes the spot between them when comforting her 6.
- Large, round eyes and a damp nose: She uses her nose to investigate building materials and nudge Tong Hua for attention 25 46.
- Hooves capable of holding objects: She carries planks during cottage repairs and operates the milking pump herself 10 25.
Personality
Miltank enjoys grazing, sunbathing, rolling around, and sleeping deeply. Being woken early can leave her grumpy; on one morning, even Tong Hua’s gentle nudges fail to wake her. She also values independence, remaining happily inside her repaired cottage after the other Pokémon leave and eventually establishing her own grazing, sleeping, and milking routine 10 21 26 38 46.
She is affectionate toward Tong Hua and appreciative of his care. She licks his palm, becomes tearful and hugs his legs during the rainy-day cleanup, and returns to her cottage after the rain because she does not want his repair work to go to waste. Although she enjoys having a home to herself, she readily welcomes new companions and looks forward to becoming the “big sister” of future pasture residents 17 36 38 46.
Unlike Turtwig and Minccino, she does not become possessive when the Celebi arrive. Once she recognizes that they are harmless, she simply resumes eating and later cheers their addition to the ranch family 20 21.
Abilities & Skills
Moomoo Milk Production
Miltank supplies the ranch with fresh Moomoo Milk, providing Tong Hua with a regular source of income during its early development 3 17.
- Daily yield: She produces a full twenty-liter can during the chief’s demonstration and again during later milkings 3 21 38.
- Feeding requirements: The chief recommends rich, fresh pasture grass, with hay used during winter 3.
- Care requirements: She must be milked every morning. An overfull udder can worsen her mood, harm her health, and reduce milk quality for the following few days 3.
- Ready to drink: According to the chief, her milk does not require the pasteurization needed for ordinary cow’s milk. Tong Hua describes its taste as smooth and delicately sweet 3.
- Other uses: Tong Hua serves it as a tip to Pelipper and uses it as the base for milk-congee hot pot 6 8.
Self-Milking
Miltank learns to operate the supplied milking equipment, reducing Tong Hua’s daily workload 10 38.
- Takes control of the pump when his first attempt proves clumsy and irritating 10.
- Cooperates with morning milking after being carried to the cottage while asleep 21.
- Eventually wakes and begins milking herself before Tong Hua arrives; he later collects milk she has already prepared 38 47.
Rollout
Miltank uses Rollout both to move around the ranch and to assist with construction 12 47.
- Tong Hua warns her to avoid hitting the damaged pasture fences 6 12.
- Helps compact the ranch’s newly paved roads 47.
- The pasture’s optical-illusion fence eventually keeps its boundary apparently out of reach, allowing her to roll without damaging it—though she finds this less entertaining 46.
Practical Assistance
- Delivers a correctly sized plank to Tong Hua while he repairs the Pokémon Cottage 25.
- Helps dry Turtwig and Minccino during the rainy-day cleanup 36.
- Opens the cabin door for a delivery Pelipper, inadvertently allowing Jessica to enter as well 34.
Equipment / Items
- Milking machine: Supplied by the village chief; uses four suction cups connected to a foot-operated pump 3.
- Twenty-liter metal milk can: Collects her milk and can be tipped onto its side for transport back to the cabin 3 21 38.
- Stress-Relief Plush Toy: Made by Tong Hua from Minccino’s shed fur. He gives it to Miltank before an early milking, and she later sleeps holding it. Its intended benefit to milk production is Tong Hua’s hypothesis, not a confirmed result 7 10 21.
- Collar: Put on her by the village chief when leading her from the delivery cart 3.
Relationships
- Tong Hua — Caretaker and ranch owner. He comforts her, maintains her shelter, and recognizes her daily milk production as one of the ranch’s greatest contributions 6 17 38 46.
- Village Chief — Arranges her arrival and teaches Tong Hua how to feed and milk her properly 3.
- Pink and Green Celebi — Welcomed as fellow ranch members. The pink Celebi moves her to the milking cottage with Confusion while she sleeps; both Celebi carry the filled milk can afterward 21.
- Orthworm — Becomes her neighbor when Tong Hua repairs the nearby granary as his home. She joins him and the other Pokémon in playing on its hay pile 46.
- Jessica — Enters the cabin after Miltank opens the door for Pelipper; later witnesses Miltank affectionately hugging Tong Hua 34 36.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Early Ranch Income

Establishing Her Home
- Temporary cabin accommodation: With the pasture cottage still unrepaired, Miltank sleeps inside Tong Hua’s cabin on a specially prepared straw mat 8 9.
- Cottage restoration: She helps repair a Pokémon Cottage that receives a Quality C evaluation and a medium optical-illusion effect. Inside, she appears to roll in place while experiencing an apparently much larger space 25.
- Independent residence: She remains pleased with the cottage and agrees to live there alone. Tong Hua places the milking equipment at its entrance 26.
- Rainstorm setback: Wind-driven rain soaks its hay, sending her back to the cabin wet and muddy. The illusion also makes small puddles appear much larger, exposing a drawback of the building’s effect 27.
- Return and routine: After the rain stops, she returns to the cottage and begins managing her own grazing, sleeping, and morning milking 38.
Ranch Renovation
- Supports Tong Hua’s plans to rebuild the cottages and bring in more Pokémon 46.
- Uses Rollout to help compact the roads during the ranch’s infrastructure improvements 47.
- The replacement deluxe cottage includes wind-powered ventilation, recreational facilities, and enough space for at least a dozen ordinarily sized Pokémon like Miltank 48.
