If another Psychic type Storm broke out, the low ground would offer shelter from the wind.
Back at the roadside, Shen Qi was about to drive the Little Sheep farther away when he heard flapping wings and a human voice.
"Young man over there!"
A large bird over five feet tall descended from the sky, its vivid red, green, white, and black coloring arranged in totem-like patterns. Eye-shaped markings adorned the feathers on its chest, and it stood upright like a human.
Xatu, a Psychic-type Pokémon.
There were Natu, its pre-evolved form, in Ruins Valley. This talking Xatu had presumably grown up alongside a Trainer.
"I..."
"Don't go any closer to Ruins Valley. It's dangerous in there. Leave it to me, the Bird Deity!"
"The Bird Deity..."
Shen Qi wasn't remotely surprised that Xatu could talk. Plenty of bird Pokémon could speak human languages directly. What mattered now was the situation in the valley.
"What happened in Ruins Valley?"
"An evil organization is making a move. My boss and I are dealing with it."
"Boss?"
"Right, my Pokémon Trainer." Xatu flapped its wings and rose into the air. "His phone was smashed to pieces during the battle. Sorry for the trouble, but could you call the Security Bureau?"
"I've already contacted them."
"Good." Xatu gradually flew farther away. "If anyone asks, tell them Groudon caused the disturbance in Ruins Valley..."
Chapter 28: Forest God
"What does Groudon have to do with this...? Also, my Chansey is in Ruins Valley. If you can spare the effort, please look out for her."
From far away, Xatu called back, "Leave it to me, the Bird Deity-"
It dared to fly through the sky despite knowing there were legendary-level Psychic type Storms. Clearly, Xatu was no weakling, and its Pokémon Trainer was probably powerful too.
But... Shen Qi couldn't shake the feeling that this bird's words weren't very reliable.
Groudon.
A Legendary Pokémon of the Hoenn Region, it had existed since the dawn of creation and was known as an ancient Pokémon.
It controlled the land, and it had the distinction of being the only Legendary Pokémon that couldn't fly.
What damn Psychic-type move did Groudon know? Rest, which it learned on its own?
Psychic-type move: Rest.
It slept for a while, restored itself to full health, and cleared negative effects. How the hell could that stir up a Psychic type Storm?
A shrill siren shattered the silence as a convoy drove into Ruins Valley.
Shen Qi let out a breath of relief.
The Security Bureau and the Patrol Team had both arrived, with rescue vehicles from the Pokémon Center bringing up the rear. They had probably been dispatched from neighboring Island 5.
"Over here!"
"Are you Shen Qi from Pokémon High School?"
"Yes, I'm the one who called!"
A police car stopped, and a policewoman with blue, tightly curled hair stepped out. The medical staff had already begun taking over treatment of the injured Pokémon.
The policewoman saluted Shen Qi. "I'm Officer Jenny. Thank you for reporting this, Shen Qi."
The Jenny Family made up a sizable portion of the Pokémon world's police force. Wherever you went, you could find an "Officer Jenny" who looked much the same, with only her style of dress differing.
"This isn't the time for pleasantries."
"Right. It's dangerous here, so you should withdraw. Leave this to us."
Emotionally, Shen Qi desperately wanted to make a noble declaration like, "My Pokémon is still in Ruins Valley. I can't leave."
But he wasn't strong enough to help, and staying would only get in the way. All he could do was alert the Security Guards and Rangers and ask them to help search.
"Officer Jenny, my Chansey went inside to treat the injured Pokémon. She gave these Pokémon their initial treatment too."
"Understood. We'll keep a special eye out for her."
Most of the medical staff were busy, and the rescue team entered Ruins Valley as well.
Shen Qi had warned them how terrifying the Psychic type Storms were, but he hadn't mentioned Xatu's claim... Groudon being responsible sounded a little too far-fetched.
He would wait and see what the Security Bureau's investigation uncovered.
Climbing into the Little Sheep, Shen Qi knew he couldn't possibly go home alone. For now, he would drive farther away and wait for news of Chansey.
Please don't let anything happen to her. She's already worked so hard, yet she keeps pushing herself...
Screee-
A strangely distorted noise, like sharp metal scraping across glass, rang out as a faint, pale pink ribbon of light twisted through the sky and vanished in a flash.
The light was less conspicuous than a large firework, but the sound was truly grating, carrying far and piercing through everything.
Boom!
Fierce winds roared. Knowing another storm was coming, Shen Qi hurriedly pulled out the half-eaten egg from earlier. Then the vehicle lurched sideways. The Little Sheep was not only blown over but rolled twice before falling into the rough ground beside the road.
Tossed about inside, Shen Qi braced himself against the door and seat to steady his body. Now that he could sense Psychic-type energy, the tugging sensation in his mind wasn't as strong. The impact of the egg's complicated flavor in his mouth was actually more intense.
Creak, creak-
The Little Sheep had stopped rolling, but it rocked a few more times in the lingering winds. Pokémon could be seen being blown through the sky.
He wondered what had happened to the Pokémon the Pokémon Center had been transporting, and those still receiving treatment in the low ground.
Thud!
Something heavy landed on the left-side window, which faced the sky now that the vehicle had tipped over.
With no other source of illumination, the creature gave off a pale green glow of its own. The power of nature and life radiated from it, refreshing his spirit.
It was roughly half a meter tall, with a green Onionhead, large eyes, and a petite body.
"Ce-le-bi-!"
A small Mythical Pokémon, Celebi, was a Grass- and Psychic-type Pokémon, the Forest God that breathed life into plants.
It did have a Psychic type, but surely it wouldn't blast itself away.
Besides, this Celebi's form was dim and slightly transparent. It was hard to imagine a Mythical Pokémon whose divine attributes were revival and healing being injured this badly.
[Who was it?!]
Without any help from the strategy game, the Mythical Pokémon's thoughts reached Shen Qi's mind directly.
[I was recovering in the forest. Who set off that Explosion?!]
Apparently, Celebi had already been injured, which explained why it was in such a sorry state.
Shen Qi carefully pushed the door open.
"A Xatu just told me... Groudon did it."
Even Shen Qi thought that answer sounded a little absurd, which was why he hadn't told the Security Bureau.
Celebi was a Mythical Pokémon, falling under the broad category of Legendary Pokémon just like Deoxys. It should be able to judge whether that was true.
[Groudon... it's that one again!]
[I'm so mad!]
"Again?!"
From what Celebi said, Groudon had caused destruction more than once. Yet the modern history textbooks hadn't mentioned any such incidents.
[I'll have to recover somewhere else. I can't stay on this island.]
[Thank you, young man.]
Celebi's soft palm gently patted Shen Qi's forehead, and surging vitality flowed through him.
[Use the power I've stored in you to help other people and Pokémon.]
With that, Celebi turned into a streak of green light and vanished into the distant sky.
It truly lived up to the title of Forest God. Even injured, it was willing to share some of its power so Shen Qi could use it to help others.
In the reflection on the glass, Shen Qi could see that his forehead was bright green... It wasn't a particularly attractive look. He had better pass Celebi's power on quickly.
Unable to right the Little Sheep and get it back onto the road by himself, Shen Qi broke into a run toward Ruins Valley.
Two of the Pokémon Center's rescue vehicles had tipped over. The other two had merely been displaced, with marks on the ground showing where an outside force had shoved them sideways. Fortunately, they hadn't overturned; they were much more stable than ordinary vehicles.
Faced with Pokémon scattered every which way and injured medical staff, Shen Qi hadn't even had time to work out how to use the revival power before the green light on his forehead turned into warm currents that wove among the wounded.
As though immersed in a gentle, comfortable environment, they relaxed in body and mind and fell asleep.
Shen Qi approached and checked them over. Doctors, nurses, and Pokémon alike were breathing evenly, and their wounds showed no signs of continued bleeding.
Such peaceful sleep would do them a great deal of good, but Ruins Valley was no place to sleep. Who knew whether another disaster would strike, or what had happened to the personnel who had gone deeper inside?
"Wake up! Nurse Joy!"
Much like the large Jenny Family in the Security Bureau, the Joy Family supported a major part of the Pokémon Center services throughout the Pokémon world.
If you saw a pink-haired female doctor or nurse, you couldn't go wrong calling her Nurse Joy.
"Huh? How did I fall asleep?"
"As long as you're all right. Just now..."
As the green light faded, Shen Qi suddenly realized that the only reason he had remained alert after the Psychic type Storm was that Celebi's energy had been sustaining him.
Now that his task was complete, overwhelming mental exhaustion and a sense of disconnection swept through his whole body. His vision went black, and he lost consciousness.
Chapter 29: Special Weakness Period
His eyelids felt heavy, and he could vaguely feel the warmth of sunlight on his body.
