Blue and Silver fought a tactical Pokémon battle that traded rapid switches, camouflage, and type advantages for heavy damage. With Silver’s Feraligatr and Blue’s Alolan Exeggutor both knocked out, Magneton faced Charizard, and Charizard suddenly used Fly.
Blue and Silver fought a shifting double battle as Blue rang the energy bell early, while Silver used Haunter’s status moves and Rhyperior to turn the momentum. Silver’s team gained a slight lead, but Arcanine remained trapped by Infestation and Curse and was then confused by Haunter.
Blue used Pidgeot and Musharna to counter Silver’s tactics, then brought out Rhyperior for a coordinated Earthquake assault. Silver was cornered with Haunter and one unrevealed Pokémon left, and the chapter ended with speculation that his final Pokémon was also affected by Earthquake.
Blue defeated Silver in a hard-fought battle, then publicly praised Silver as Giovanni’s student and urged him to escape the stigma of being Giovanni’s son. Shen Qi recognized that Giovanni’s research had revealed Ursaluna decades before its discovery, and Blue then asked Silver why he had held back.
During Blue and Silver’s battle, Team Rocket attacked the Earth Research Institute and the Pewter Science Museum, triggering an evacuation and stirring suspicion against Silver. Shen Qi found that Florges and Dodo had taken three children to a subway shelter, where Team Rocket suddenly appeared among the evacuees and caused a dangerous crush.
After Team Rocket’s attack on Viridian City, Shen Qi helped evacuate children and treat the injured while Blue defeated the attackers at the Earth Research Institute. Back at the Small Building, he comforted Florges, heard from Tracey that most suspects had been caught, and discovered that Chansey had learned Body Slam.
Shen Qi hurried to Crimson Forest for the Shabi City Regular Race and won first place before settling in for the night. At B Bakery, he learned that its owner was Butch, who had gone to visit Boss Cassidy across the street.
Shen Qi suspected Cassidy and Butch might be connected to the recent Team Rocket attacks, but a fugitive from the Pewter City attack overheard their conversation and vanished. As Shen Qi wandered Shabi City to avoid drawing suspicion, a flower seller approached him, leaving her intentions unclear.
Shen Qi discovered that the flower girl who sold him a black tulip was Domino, a Team Rocket agent testing him for suspicious reactions. He asked Lance to help report her to the Security Bureau, then learned Lance was sneaking away from his Dragon Clan home.
Shen Qi reported Domino’s presence in Shabi City to Officer Jenny, prompting a covert Security Bureau operation. The team detained a suspicious flower girl, but her confession revealed she was not Domino, whose whereabouts remained unknown.
Officer Jenny’s team uncovered Domino’s links to Cassidy and Butch, then Silver tracked Domino into the mountains but encountered her Tulip Squad and could not stop their escape. Shen Qi later learned the operation had failed and was startled by a change in his Game Interface.
Shen Qi reported the fleeing figures hidden in black mist, then discovered that a mysterious Pokémon had triggered an extremely difficult Emotional Script called “Stone Bone Longing.” He investigated the huge impression left where it had crushed his phone and learned the Security Bureau was trying to reach him.
Shen Qi learned that the mysterious impact site contained fragments from the Aerodactyl fossil stolen from Pewter City, confirming that the slab had flown past him and crushed his phone. The Security Bureau had identified its origin, but the fossil’s whereabouts remained unknown.
Shen Qi investigated the missing Aerodactyl fossil at the Pewter Science Museum with researcher Li Ke, who described seeing a huge fossil-bearing slab fly out during the Tulip Squad’s attack. Li Ke explained the Tulip Squad’s phantom-thief methods and motives, while Shen Qi remained unconvinced by their charitable uses of stolen money.
Shen Qi stopped at a remote rest area on his drive back to Island 6 and discovered that a mysterious pebble had followed him from Pewter City. He opened the “Stone Bone Longing” memory script, which showed an ancient tribe’s Golett guarding a fossil, then saw that most of them had evolved into Golurk as time passed.
Shen Qi watched a Memory Image of Golett’s devotion to Aerodactyl’s fossil, from the ancient Unova disaster to Golett’s desperate attempt to save it. Golett evolved into Golurk and escaped the collapsing mountains, but a volcanic eruption brought them down, leaving Golurk mortally damaged beside the revealed skeleton.
Shen Qi realized the scenes in [Memory Image] showed Golurk transferring his energy into Aerodactyl’s fossil, and he connected the fossil’s strange activity to the Heart Fossil he had carried near it in Fuchsia City. After telling Li Ke that the enormous stone slab seemed to be following him, Shen Qi was left with only a faintly Ground-energy pebble as evidence.
After returning to Island 6 without finding the giant fossil in the sky, Shen Qi resumed preparations for the Spring Race and began training to defend himself against Team Rocket. He met with Pokémon High School’s principal and sponsors as the race and the school’s future drew closer.
Shen Qi met the guests who had come to support Pokémon High School, including resort representative Akiho, former student Gangzao, and Shamouti Island Chief with his granddaughter Flula. Their support could help revive the school, but it depended on Shen Qi and Lilligant succeeding in the upcoming races.
Shen Qi reflected on the arrogant Shamouti Island Chief’s interest in Pokémon High School and prepared for the Spring Race, while the revised race system promised fewer veteran T2 Drivers in T3 events. He also arranged to meet Li Ke about the Heart Fossil and continued training with his Pokémon, though the mysterious “Stone Bone Longing” scenario still troubled him.
Shen Qi helped Lopunny bathe, then Officer Jenny brought him to the Island 6 Sub-bureau to ask about the Tulip Squad and the leads from Shabi City. After spending the night in the Detention Room, he left in the morning and noticed an unread message from Lilligant.
Shen Qi asked Lorelei to teach him battling so he could better protect himself from Team Rocket and other threats. Lorelei agreed to guide him, but pointed out that his five Pokémon would not be enough for high-level competition and brought out a damaged Cloyster.
Lorelei tested Shen Qi’s judgment about raising Pokémon and then challenged his team in the wilderness. Shen Qi’s opening strategy surprised her, but the battle was still underway as Lilligant prepared a boosted Petal Dance against Dewgong’s icy defense.
Shen Qi tested his battle skills against Lorelei, but Dewgong defeated his Pokémon without requiring Lorelei to use another Pokémon. Afterward, Lorelei praised Shen Qi’s reactions and awareness while advising him to unlock every type chakra and stop relying so heavily on powerful moves.
Shen Qi learned from Lorelei to use basic moves tactically before leaving to prepare for Celadon City's Spring Race. At Li Ke's temporary laboratory, he watched the group draw and discovered that Shan Sheng had landed in a group with eight T2 drivers.
