Although Heath had already more or less guessed that this mission had something to do with Mewtwo-after all, there probably weren't many new lives that could trigger a system mission-he really hadn't expected to receive these things after completing it. Heath did know about Mewtwo's Mega Stones. They could let Mewtwo Mega Evolve into two forms, one with stronger Psychic powers and another with the Fighting type. They were quite practical.
However, there were actually some issues with Mega Stones. The key issue was that, according to some earlier lore, Mega Stones were supposed to be ancient stones, rare stones with mysterious powers discovered in ruins. Yet Mewtwo was an artificial Legendary Pokémon, so logically, there shouldn't have been Mega Stones for Mewtwo. And yet Mewtwo's Mega Stones had appeared anyway. This was very interesting, and for a time, it had made people wonder whether Mewtwo's birth had really been accidental or inevitable.
Of course, another possibility was that Mewtwo had simply happened to find a stone that could activate its Mega Evolution. But that stone might not have had much use. After all, Mega Stones had always been very rare, and only some Pokémon had been confirmed to possess the power of Mega Evolution. Some newly discovered Pokémon, or Pokémon from regions such as Galar and Paldea, didn't possess that power. It was very strange. They were all Charizard, yet Charizard in the Galar Region could Dynamax but couldn't Mega Evolve. Pokémon Professors had been studying exactly what caused this difference.
Still, those questions were all matters for the future, so Heath didn't particularly concern himself with them. Although he had now gained Mewtwo's affection, he figured Mewtwo probably hadn't fully come into being yet, so its affection wasn't much use for the time being. He might as well
