Heath was very curious about that Slowbro, but after losing the battle, the Slowbro wandered off in a daze. That vacant little stare gave Heath a headache. He felt as though looking into Slowbro's eyes for too long would leave him just as vacant, with the sense that nothing in the world was worth caring about.
To avoid becoming just like Slowbro, Heath decided to abandon the idea of following it to see what it would do. After all, who knew whether Slowbro would sit by the water fishing all day? But Heath had heard that because Shellder clamped onto Slowbro's tail, it could no longer use its tail to fish and had to swim to catch fish instead. There was also a very unusual claim that if the Shellder on their tails were removed, Slowbro would devolve into Slowpoke.

Heath then looked around the Gym and watched some other battles. He had to admit that most of the Trainers' battles were distinctive. Heath thought this might have something to do with the League designating Pewter City's Gym as a beginner challenge Gym, so some of the Trainers here performed in ways that made even him want to laugh a little. At least they understood type advantages, though. Most used Water-type and Grass-type Pokémon.
