This was the first time Heath had encountered anything like this. Although he had served Mr. Ono before, Mr. Ono's wish had been to eat a serving of fried rice, and once Heath had made it for him, he had passed on. So Heath had thought that if roasted sweet potatoes really were old Mrs. Shuimiao's lingering wish, she should have passed on after eating them. Yet old Mrs. Shuimiao was still sitting right in front of him, perfectly fine.
A possibility immediately occurred to Heath: perhaps old Mrs. Shuimiao's lingering wish wasn't to eat roasted sweet potatoes.
But now wasn't the time to ask old Mrs. Shuimiao, because Heath had something else to deal with: the table of customers before him.

There were four of them, two men and two women, who seemed to be two young couples. That wasn't particularly strange.
