"What? Why didn't you say so sooner?" Upon hearing that, Leng Xiyue hurriedly left the soul space. Her consciousness flickered, and she returned to reality.
"Nana, how are you?"
Hu Liena had already passed out from overexertion, her face deathly pale. Beside her, Xie Yue was burning with anxiety. He struggled to get up and check on her, but his injuries were too severe for him to rise. Instead, the pain left him grimacing.
"Don't worry, Brother Xie Yue. Sister Nana should just be exhausted. I'll replenish her energy, and she'll be fine." Leng Xiyue hurried forward. With a thought, her Martial Soul instantly enveloped her.
The armor that served as her Martial Soul in reality was exactly the same as the one she had tried in the soul space. It was easy to operate, too, as though she had been born knowing how. Perhaps that was the advantage of having it as a Martial Soul.
After taking Hu Liena's hand, she followed Xiao Bai's instructions and transferred psionic energy into her. Before long, color returned to Hu Liena's face.
Seeing this, Xie Yue breathed a sigh of relief. Only then did he examine the pristine white armor on Leng Xiyue, surprise spreading across his face. "Little sister, is this your Martial Soul?"
Armor-shaped Martial Souls were not unheard of on the Douluo Continent, but they generally had little potential for growth. Their quality was scarcely better than hoes or sickles.
But the armor Leng Xiyue wore was simply far too beautiful. Her original clothes had looked to be made of unusual material, but they were covered in dirt, their original appearance long since obscured. At most, she had looked like a wandering orphan from a wealthy household. Now, however, she looked like a deity descended to earth. Even her grubby face and skin seemed to have been washed clean, becoming incredibly fair.
Even setting its appearance aside, armor that could directly envelop its wielder and transfer their Soul Power to someone else would be enough. With that ability alone, she could make a decent living as a support-type Soul Master, "recharging" other Battle Soul Masters.
"Hehehe, that's right. With you two hurt like this, it looks like I'll have to protect you for a while." As she spoke, Leng Xiyue raised her hands, and a short blade formed from psionic energy appeared behind each wrist.
According to Xiao Bai, activating the weapons this way seemed better suited to combat. Tens of thousands of years ago, the Protoss had used paired blades like these as weapons, with everyone from basic infantry to their leaders favoring them. Leng Xiyue thought little of that, though. She was no Protoss. If she really had to fight, she would definitely use a longsword. Not only was it handy, it looked cool.
At that thought, Leng Xiyue willed the twin blades to disappear. Then she extended both hands and made a sword-drawing motion, and a psionic longsword appeared in her grasp.
Beside her, Xie Yue stared dumbfounded at the longsword gleaming with golden light. At only eleven years old, he simply could not comprehend such a scene straight out of science fiction. Wasn't her Martial Soul armor? How could she draw a sword out of thin air, too?
Ordinary tool Martial Souls did not actually exert much pressure before Soul Power was poured into them. His own Moon Blade, for instance, was supposedly quite good among tool Martial Souls. Though it still fell short of top-tier tool Martial Souls like the Clear Sky Hammer, it ranked among the best of the high-grade ones.
The psionic longsword before him, however, inspired dread at a glance. His own body seemed utterly insignificant before that Psi Blade, even though he was already approaching rank twenty and the little girl before him had only just awakened her Martial Soul.
At this thought, Xie Yue suddenly realized something. His expression changed sharply, and he said excitedly, "Little sister, do you have innate full soul power?"
"Uh... I guess so?" Leng Xiyue put away the Psi Blade and scratched her head. To be honest, this body's original owner might have possessed some talent, as well as a Martial Soul of her own. But once Leng Xiyue had taken over, those gifts had naturally disappeared with her.
As for the psionic energy she had previously absorbed to reach rank ten, its effect was probably much like Tang San cultivating the Mysterious Heaven Skill. After awakening her Martial Soul, the cultivation she had already acquired looked no different from innate soul power.
"Innate full soul power... It's actually innate full soul power..." Xie Yue muttered to himself for a moment before realizing something and hurriedly saying, "Little Sister Xiyue, if you have innate full soul power, you must join Spirit Hall. Only in Spirit Hall will you have the best room to grow."
"I know your background must be extraordinary, or you couldn't have appeared out of nowhere in the Martial Soul Forest. But that's precisely why Spirit Hall is also your best chance if you want to recover your memories through the keepsakes left on you."
Xie Yue's words were utterly sincere, and Leng Xiyue was somewhat tempted. Clearly, someone lurking in the shadows meant her harm. If she could cling to Spirit Hall's mighty thigh, those people would have to think twice before trying anything else.
Moreover, Spirit City was the best place to rake in money. As the most prosperous city on the continent, it was the ideal choice whether she wanted to make things with the Forge and sell them or buy high-grade resources and minerals.
As for helping Spirit Hall deal with Tang San, she had no such plans for now. After all, opposing a protagonist like Tang San would be an incredibly troublesome affair. Easygoing by nature and wanting only to slack off, she was not ready for that. She would decide after getting to know Spirit Hall properly.
With the intention of visiting Spirit City first, Leng Xiyue nodded. "Mm, I'll seriously consider it. Thank you, Brother Xie Yue."
Xie Yue looked up at the sky. It was already dusk, so he reminded her, "It's getting late. If you want to go to Spirit City, just keep heading straight in this direction. This spot is fairly well hidden, so we should be safe hiding here. Our trial still has to continue, too."
The two of them had endured all sorts of harsh environments since childhood, and both were Soul Masters approaching rank twenty. Withstanding this bitter cold was not particularly difficult for them. Once night fell, hiding here and slowly recovering should be relatively safe. Protecting themselves should not be a problem.
If Leng Xiyue stayed here, on the other hand, she would undoubtedly become a burden. Though her Martial Soul looked powerful, she was ultimately only a Soul Scholar without any Soul Skills.
Although Spirit Hall had not established any rules for this trial, bringing in outside help surely would not be permitted. Otherwise, if someone happened to know a Soul Elder or Soul Ancestor and brought them along, wouldn't they soar straight to the heavens?
Xie Yue also did not want an outsider like her getting involved in their trial. Parting now would be best for both Leng Xiyue and the two of them.
Naturally, Leng Xiyue was uneasy. She was just about to say something when Xiao Bai reminded her, "Don't worry. Prime gu insects like them are far too precious. Someone is watching over them from the shadows. Even if you hadn't come earlier, they definitely wouldn't have died."
"You think this is a fair elimination tournament, but the final survivors were probably selected long ago. This so-called trial is likely nothing more than training for these prime gu insects. As long as their talent is high enough, how could they possibly be discarded?"
"Rather than worrying about them, you should worry about yourself. I reckon that person has already sent back word that you might have this so-called innate full soul power. If you don't leave now, you probably won't be able to."
Hearing this, Leng Xiyue immediately understood. How could people like Hu Liena and Xie Yue, who had roles in the plot, die here so easily?
With their talent, they might already have caught the eye of certain important figures. Once this trial ended, the good life would await them.
"Oh, right. Remember to claim your reward first. With the Hyper-Speed Component, you'll be able to run faster, too."
"Okay." With a thought from Leng Xiyue, the mission panel appeared before her eyes. She then clicked to complete the mission she had already finished.
The system's voice soon rang out. "Congratulations, host, on completing the mission. The Hyper-Speed Component has been installed and will take effect after you reactivate your Martial Soul."
"As the host is currently at a bottleneck, a new mission has been issued: obtain a Soul Ring over one thousand years old to serve as a container for a skill you program yourself. The mission reward is a Storage Device."
"This mission offers an additional challenge: obtain a Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring to receive the additional skill-Simulation."
"This skill can disguise the Soul Rings the host acquires, with the upper limit determined by the highest-ranked Soul Beast the host has seen. It can also replicate the distinctive auras of humans."
