Wu Badāo and the two remaining Whale-Hunting Serpents fled the Merfolk Sea at full speed, with Cheng Xinzhan close behind.
The four men from Yellow Sulfur Island watching from afar were dumbstruck. Since when had Fourth Qing's subordinates become so helpless against a single blow?
The four conferred. Two would follow the Mad Lord; this lord did not know the way, and they could not let him lose himself chasing someone else. The other two went down to haul up the sea serpents. That was a substantial quantity of blood food, not to be wasted. It was just a pity about the whales-they had escaped. If the Mad Lord had struck a little later, they might have recovered a few whale carcasses too.
Once outside the Merfolk Sea, Wu Badāo glanced back and saw an unfamiliar man in black pursuing them.
Judging by his appearance and build, Wu Badāo found him utterly ordinary, without a trace of a master's bearing. At most, he was an expert with poison, merely relying on the mist in the Merfolk Sea to throw his weight around. Presumably, that flying sword was nothing special either. He himself had been too cautious.
With that, Wu Badāo could not help thinking less of him, a cold sneer rising on his face. A skulking rat actually dared pursue him! But they had only just left the Merfolk Sea, and he did not want to frighten the man away, so he continued his feigned flight.
They skimmed another few dozen li. Once he was certain this fool courting death could no longer turn back to the Merfolk Sea in time, he stopped immediately. The other two Whale-Hunting Serpents were ready as well, doubling back to block Cheng Xinzhan from behind. The three surrounded him, trapping him in their midst.
