Everyone knew that Nascent Soul cultivators lived long lives.
After cultivators entered the Fourth Realm, their lifespans increased sharply, leaving them with ample years to spare. After long years of tribulation pursuing, lifespan chasing, that sudden release of pressure broadened their state of mind, often bringing a period of rapid advancement in their cultivation. A problem that had troubled them for years might become clear overnight, blocked apertures might yield at a touch, or their creation of techniques and development of arts might burst forth like a gushing spring.
The cultivation world even had a specific name for this phenomenon: "Gaining lifespan, gaining wisdom." With more years to live and less pressure, even the mind became considerably sharper.
Unfortunately, this phenomenon had not appeared in Cheng Xinzhan. He had never felt the pressure of tribulation pursuing, lifespan chasing, and his mind remained unruffled after entering the Fourth Realm. Though he had gained a long life, he had gained no additional insight, which he found a slight pity.
Generally speaking, cultivators who achieved fetal formation through orthodox methods gained the marvels of the innate through the fusion of the three treasures-essence, qi, and spirit-and enjoyed a great increase in lifespan. They gained around four hundred years, equivalent to the total lifespan a fifth-washing cultivator gained across the First, Second, and Third Realms. At this point, a cultivator's total lifespan would be around nine hundred years. A great cultivator capable of reaching the Fourth Realm through orthodox methods would necessarily have advanced through the first three realms at a good pace, generally entering the Fourth Realm before the age of four hundred. In other words, cultivators entering the Fourth Realm were only middle-aged, right in their vigorous prime.
