The sky, which had only been somewhat dim, suddenly turned gloomy. The fog drifting out of the Wooded Belt made the whole world look as though it had been wrapped in a translucent burial shroud, and the damp air carried an indescribable scent of decay.
The entire scene had a Silent Hill-like horror to it.
Shadowy figures crowded the Wooded Belt, all of them Impersonator Sculptures, yet they gave Lin Yi no sense of terror. Instead, there was only an endless air of death.
"Those sculptures... are they Impersonator Sculptures?"
They did not quite seem like it. They lacked the distinctive feeling of Impersonator Sculptures, and did not give him the sensation of being locked onto by Void Targeting.
Was it because his standing was higher now, so the Impersonator Sculptures did not dare target him?
Surely not?
Void Targeting was a basic mechanism of Impersonator Sculptures. Even a dog that glared at them should have been targeted, right?
He continued observing, strengthening part of his perception. Gradually, as the fog flowed, more silhouettes emerged within the Wooded Belt, like a silent army... no, like a silent... Corpse Horde.
Hundreds of sculptures were frozen in all sorts of bizarre poses on the slopes, among the rocks, and even hanging from branches. Some were tangled in tree roots, some pierced by vines, while even more had been petrified throughout the Wooded Belt in poses that defied the laws of physics.
He made out their faces. Most of their expressions were full of humanity, some even frozen in moments of extreme terror, their mouths wide open and their eyeballs almost bursting from their sockets.
Others knelt on the ground, gazing diagonally up at the sky, their hands outstretched and fingers spread as though grasping at something, their faces filled with morbid devotion
