Ch. 21Sculpture Fragments

Lin Yi found plaster fragments in the classroom and realized a sculpture had been brought inside during the previous night, triggering a dangerous spiral of thoughts until Xu Shunkang opened the door and sunlight brought him back. After Xu Shunkang warned them about the fragments and gave them biscuits, Lin Yi and Wei Liang examined the updated schedule and learned that upcoming PE classes included swimming and gymnastics.

  • Lin Yi and Wei Liang identified the white fragments as plaster and deduced that a sculpture had been moved into the classroom overnight.
  • Lin Yi pieced together clues about the sculpture, the security guard, and the missing Art Building location, then froze in a disoriented state until sunlight from the opened door revived him.
  • Wei Liang told Lin Yi that art students had their own rules and that his former roommates disappeared after becoming involved with matters connected to the Library and a Sculpture Experience Class.
  • Xu Shunkang told Lin Yi and Wei Liang that the plaster fragments were not ordinary, gave them biscuits, and exchanged a comic argument with Xie Huayang over the food.
  • Lin Yi and Wei Liang checked the class schedule and discussed the upcoming PE classes, including swimming and gymnastics.

Ch. 22The Boundary Between Safety and Danger

Lin Yi learned that clear, sunny weather made the campus safer and that thinking about its mysteries could be dangerous at night. While he and Wei Liang sat in the sunlight, Lin Yi spotted a sculpture in the woods that looked exactly like the missing Little Genius.

  • Lin Yi sensed something wrong about the head teacher and noticed her eyes had turned golden.
  • Xie Huayang confirmed Lin Yi's theory that thinking about dangerous mysteries could cross a line, and advised him to think only in sunlight; Xu Shunkang said the campus was safer in clear weather and urged him to leave.
  • Xie Huayang and Xu Shunkang found fragments and transformed powder from a sculpture that had appeared in the classroom overnight, then went outside to discuss it.
  • Lin Yi and Wei Liang stayed in the classroom and sat in the sunlight, where Lin Yi wrote down what he knew about the campus's changing dangers.
  • Lin Yi looked out the window and saw a frightening sculpture in the wooded belt that resembled Little Genius, the boy who had been killed by classmates.

Ch. 23[I am the head teacher]

Lin Yi traced plaster powder from Little Genius’s corpse to the lectern and found a note repeating “I am the head teacher,” while the head teacher struggled to reaffirm her identity in the office. After Lin Yi and Wei Liang left for lunch, a gust of wind revealed more white forms hidden near Little Genius’s sculpture.

  • Wei Liang found plaster powder on the classroom floor, and Lin Yi followed its trail from Little Genius’s hiding desk to the lectern, where it vanished.
  • Lin Yi read a crumpled note covered in the words “I am the head teacher” and wondered what it meant.
  • The head teacher returned to her office, wrote “I am the head teacher” repeatedly, and checked the envelopes in her desk before tidying up.
  • At lunchtime, Lin Yi and Wei Liang left the classroom, and Lin Yi checked that Little Genius’s sculpture was still in the Wooded Belt.
  • A gust of wind shook the bushes near the sculpture and revealed a cluster of white forms hidden among the leaves.

Ch. 24The noticeboard outside the Cafeteria

Lin Yi and Wei Liang headed to the Cafeteria with Xu Shunkang and Xie Huayang, while Lin Yi investigated impossible spatial distortions and unsettling traces around the Campus. At the Cafeteria entrance, Lin Yi and Wei Liang began reading its rules, while Xu Shunkang and Xie Huayang refused to do so.

  • Lin Yi realized that the stairwell and Group B Class 2 had occupied the same position relative to the Teachers' Office, despite being reached by different routes.
  • Xu Shunkang asked Lin Yi about the previous night, and the group decided to go eat at the Cafeteria together.
  • Lin Yi checked the streetlamps against the Map and wondered how their numbering could lead to the Security Guard when nearby lamps had nonsequential numbers.
  • Lin Yi and Wei Liang found hardened plaster-like powder in the cobblestone gaps along their route to the Cafeteria.
  • The four reached the Cafeteria noticeboard, where Lin Yi and Wei Liang took copies of the Cafeteria Rules and Xu Shunkang and Xie Huayang declined to read them.

Ch. 25Cafeteria Rules

Lin Yi and Wei Liang studied the Cafeteria Rules and considered how to handle their contradictions, then decided to enter the Cafeteria for a meal. As they set off, they recognized the girl from yesterday’s Blue Bus on the Campus road.

  • Lin Yi noticed that the Cafeteria’s ban on entering during Abnormal Weather might conflict with the Student Rules, and Wei Liang suggested stocking up at the Convenience Store to avoid the problem.
  • Lin Yi read the Cafeteria Rules, which listed dangers involving forbidden passages, dark areas, tomato-containing food, Meal Window No. 10, and the Convenience Store Owner.
  • Lin Yi wondered why the Student Rules and Cafeteria Rules gave conflicting instructions about the Convenience Store Owner, and why Security Guards were mentioned only once.
  • Wei Liang finished reading quickly and urged Lin Yi to stop worrying and eat, so they put away the rules and headed toward the Cafeteria.
  • Wei Liang spotted a familiar girl on the Campus road, and Lin Yi recognized her as the girl who had ridden the Blue Bus with them yesterday.

Ch. 26Student Passage

Lin Yi saw the sailor-uniform girl from the bus enter the Other Passage, then watched Xu Shunkang and Xie Huayang use it too. Inside the Student Passage, he discovered moss growing throughout it and around Basement Level One, and his inspection left him terrified by what he saw at the passage’s end.

  • Lin Yi recognized the sailor-uniform girl from the bus, and Xu Shunkang blocked her gaze before she hurried into the Other Passage.
  • Xu Shunkang and Xie Huayang later entered the Other Passage, but Lin Yi and Wei Liang chose to go to the Cafeteria without reporting them to a Security Guard.
  • Lin Yi noticed many students, including several in athletic uniforms, using the Other Passage, then entered the Student Passage with Wei Liang.
  • Lin Yi found moss growing along the Student Passage steps and confirmed that moss also covered the walls around Basement Level One.
  • Lin Yi rushed to the end of the Student Passage and turned to look back, whereupon he felt a chill spread through his body.

Ch. 27Student Dining Hall

Lin Yi reasoned that the moss around campus might be evidence of a recurring, invisible tide, then discovered that dangerous thoughts could overtake him in the dining hall unless he stood in direct sunlight. As he followed Wei Liang away from the entrance, a Chef emerged from the shadowy corner and approached him.

  • Lin Yi connected the moss in the Student Passage and Basement Level One to either a wet creature or an invisible tide, and wondered whether the Teaching Building's steps also bore moss.
  • Wei Liang told Lin Yi that he had slipped on moss on the Dormitory steps, leaving Lin Yi worried that the campus's moss was not harmless.
  • Inside the Student Dining Hall, Lin Yi saw a pitch-black abyss and nearly fell toward it before Wei Liang pulled him back to the entrance.
  • Lin Yi realized he could think freely only in direct sunlight, not merely during daylight, and hurried after Wei Liang without dwelling on the danger.
  • A Chef emerged from the shadowy corner Lin Yi had been watching and slowly walked toward him.

Ch. 28This floor seemed a little uneven, huh

Lin Yi and Wei Liang joined the line at Meal Window No. 3, where Lin Yi faced a Green Apron Chef who violated the Cafeteria’s rules and tried to sell him tomato-sauce pasta. Wei Liang pulled Lin Yi away, unknowingly stepping on the chef’s face, while a drop of tomato-like sauce clung to his shoe.

  • Lin Yi realized the Cafeteria’s shifting darkness and weak lighting could be dangerous, and he joined Wei Liang in the bright line at Meal Window No. 3.
  • A Green Apron Chef addressed Lin Yi, but Lin Yi remembered the rules and froze, trying to ignore the stranger without looking at him.
  • The Green Apron Chef lay on the floor and forced his face into Lin Yi’s view, then offered him free Tomato Meat Sauce Pasta.
  • Lin Yi kept his attention blank until Wei Liang noticed the gap in the line, grabbed his hand, and dragged him forward.
  • Wei Liang stepped on the Green Apron Chef’s face, and Lin Yi pulled his gaze away and followed him.
  • The Green Apron Chef stood up with a shoe print on his face and watched Wei Liang, whose shoe sole had picked up a drop of tomato-like red substance.

Ch. 29"Being watched"

Lin Yi and Wei Liang encountered increasingly dangerous anomalies in the Student Dining Hall while trying to follow its rules. They escaped the dining area, leaving the blue-apron chef behind as he ate a tomato and watched them go.

  • Lin Yi noticed a dark red stain on Wei Liang’s shoe and realized it had come from stomping on the Green Apron Chef, but he could not warn Wei Liang before he ordered food.
  • Wei Liang demonstrated his flashy way of swiping his Student ID, then stopped when a sinister chill rose from his foot and spotted the Green Apron Chef watching them from a seat.
  • As Lin Yi drew his Student ID, the students stared at him with hostile intent, but he copied Wei Liang’s technique and swiped the card without openly revealing it.
  • A blue-apron chef appeared in the dining hall, offered Lin Yi a tomato instead of milk, and reminded him to take the milk; Lin Yi recognized the rule and ignored him.
  • Lin Yi urged Wei Liang to follow him without paying attention to anything, and the two fled as the chef offered Wei Liang milk.
  • The blue-apron chef watched them leave, then bit into the tomato and chewed as its juice ran down his face.

Ch. 30Surrounded

Lin Yi realized the Cafeteria’s food could cleanse the discomfort caused by the campus and decided to leave after eating, but he and Wei Liang were surrounded as strangers filled every seat at their table. The chapter ended with Wei Liang trying to alert Lin Yi without speaking plainly.

  • The Blue Apron Chef replaced a student’s milk with a tomato and followed him away from the serving counter.
  • Lin Yi warned Wei Liang to check his meal for tomato and noticed tomato sauce on Wei Liang’s shoe, telling him not to remove it inside the Cafeteria.
  • Lin Yi discovered that the Cafeteria’s food warmed and seemed to cleanse his body, and he suspected students needed to eat there within a time limit.
  • Lin Yi and Wei Liang joked while eating, helping Lin Yi ignore the eerie activity around them.
  • Strangers gathered until all eight seats at Lin Yi and Wei Liang’s table were occupied, and Wei Liang tried to get Lin Yi’s attention with strange swallowing sounds and a kick.

Ch. 31A Storm of Thoughts

Lin Yi and Wei Liang used muffled eating noises to communicate and followed the Cafeteria Rules while Lin Yi reasoned through the dangers around them. After finishing their food, they prepared to leave, but Wei Liang felt something licking his shoe.

  • Lin Yi realized Wei Liang's strange eating noises meant they were surrounded, and the two began communicating through exaggerated gibberish.
  • Lin Yi told Wei Liang to focus on eating and ignore strangers, while Wei Liang struggled to concentrate on his food.
  • Lin Yi reviewed the Cafeteria Rules and reasoned that responding to the chefs might trigger danger, while darkness and leaving with tomato sauce could also threaten them.
  • Lin Yi finished his meal and saw in the reflection of his tray that the surrounding people were staring at him and Wei Liang.
  • Lin Yi and Wei Liang prepared to leave together, but Wei Liang cried out that something was licking his shoe.

Ch. 32Meal Window No. 10

Lin Yi and Wei Liang fought their way through the unnaturally cold crowd in the Student Dining Hall and tried to escape by following the Cafeteria Rules. Lin Yi spotted the Green Apron Chef emerging from Meal Window No. 10 and raced for the Student Passage as the chef pursued him.

  • Lin Yi and Wei Liang rammed through the rigid crowd, then fled toward the tray return as the students began pursuing them.
  • Wei Liang avoided handing his tray to a suspicious chef after Lin Yi warned him that Cafeteria employees could not appear in the Student Dining Hall, then ran for the exit.
  • Lin Yi ignored Kuai Hongji's call and noticed the hidden Meal Window No. 10, where a Green Apron Chef forced his way out while the queue remained unresponsive.
  • Lin Yi recalled the rule about the Green Apron Chef, chose the Student Passage over the Convenience Store, and sprinted for the doors without looking back or answering.
  • The Green Apron Chef called to Lin Yi and rapidly pursued him, setting up a race to the Student Dining Hall's exit.

Ch. 33Daytime was our home turf

Lin Yi escaped the Student Dining Hall while Xu Shunkang stayed behind and struck the Green Apron Chef with a Baseball Bat. Outside, Lin Yi and Wei Liang searched for a trash can to discard their tomato-sauce-stained shoes and found one beside the Staff Passage.

  • Lin Yi sprinted toward the Student Dining Hall exit as the Green Apron Chef pursued him, and Xu Shunkang let him pass before blocking the chef with his Baseball Bat.
  • Xu Shunkang knocked the Green Apron Chef back into the dining hall, where the walking-corpse-like students swarmed him, then used sunlight to clean the substance from his bat.
  • Lin Yi followed the cafeteria rule and did not look back as he ran through the Student Passage after Wei Liang, who struggled to slow down after racing ahead.
  • Lin Yi and Wei Liang decided to discard their stained shoes before returning the cafeteria rules, but found no trash cans until they spotted one beside the Staff Passage.
  • Lin Yi judged that they could use the trash can without crossing into the Staff Passage, while Wei Liang discovered that his own shoe had also been stained and mourned his sneakers.

Ch. 34Staff Passage

Lin Yi discovered that the tomato sauce on his shoes had turned into plaster and connected it to the Head Teacher and the Green Apron Chef’s delivery. As he and Wei Liang tried to discard their shoes, a powerful pounding sound erupted from the Staff Passage, and Xu Shunkang helped push them toward the trash can.

  • Lin Yi hurried toward the Staff Passage after sensing a chilly presence behind him, but discovered the substance on his shoes had hardened into plaster.
  • Lin Yi recalled the tomato-stained lunch box in the Teachers' Office and deduced that the Green Apron Chef had delivered tomato meat sauce pasta to the Head Teacher before he met her.
  • Wei Liang caught up with Lin Yi, who claimed he had sped ahead because the slope was too steep to brake on.
  • A booming, heartbeat-like sound came from the Staff Passage and overwhelmed Lin Yi and Wei Liang as they struggled toward the trash can with their shoes.
  • Xu Shunkang appeared with a plaster-dusted Baseball Bat and pushed Lin Yi and Wei Liang toward the trash can while resisting the sonic waves.

Ch. 36Pebbles and moss

Xu Shunkang rescued Lin Yi and Wei Liang from the dangerous Staff Passage and warned them about the Cafeteria’s rules and PE. As Lin Yi returned toward the Teaching Building, the tomato-sauce-like powder on the pebble path triggered a frightening reaction, and he froze at the sight of moss on the classroom steps.

  • Xu Shunkang helped Lin Yi and Wei Liang escape the Staff Passage and explained that lingering there could expose them to danger.
  • Xu Shunkang advised them to return to the classroom for midday rest and reach PE fifteen minutes early because the route to the Gymnasium was dangerous.
  • Lin Yi realized the abnormal sounds came from the Cafeteria’s Basement Level One and left the Cafeteria with Wei Liang as clouds dimmed the sunlight.
  • Lin Yi noticed white powder between the pebble paving stones and became overwhelmed by fear, while Wei Liang spotted several pebbles distorted into strange shapes.
  • At Teaching Building 3, Wei Liang found Lin Yi frozen and cold as Lin Yi stared at moss on the steps and muttered in disbelief.

Ch. 37The call of the Art Building

Lin Yi experienced a terrifying vision in which he seemed trapped in a Gothic Art Building, then grounded himself by repeating his identity and returned to the steps of the Teaching Building. Back in class, he noticed the Little Genius statue had vanished and added new survival notes about the Cafeteria and Tomato Sauce.

  • Lin Yi saw a storm-torn image of the campus inside a painted sky and found himself in a castle marked as the Art Building, but repeated his name and student number until he was back at the Teaching Building.
  • Wei Liang found Lin Yi crouching by the steps and escorted him back to the classroom, where Lin Yi said he was fine and blamed low blood sugar.
  • Lin Yi noticed that the Little Genius statue was missing from the Wooded Belt outside Building B.
  • Lin Yi reviewed his notebook and recorded that the Athlete Student could fight dangerous things, Cafeteria food had a cleansing effect, and he should leave the Cafeteria quickly after eating.
  • Lin Yi added that Tomato Sauce could get on his shoes if he stepped on dangerous classmates and turned into plaster under the Sun.

Ch. 38Hypothesis

Lin Yi connected the Head Teacher’s identity, tomato sauce, and injuries, then hypothesized that the unknown creature in the classroom had been the Head Teacher after she became abnormal. He found tomato sauce seeping from the classroom door’s keyhole, lending support to his theory.

  • Lin Yi realized that a person’s identity might depend on both physical identification and unwavering belief, and suspected the Head Teacher’s office reflected her confused state.
  • Wei Liang explained that the Head Teacher’s torn stockings looked scuffed rather than cut, prompting Lin Yi to wonder if her injuries came from a struggle.
  • Lin Yi hypothesized that the unknown creature was the Head Teacher, that the Security Guard had injured her with his chains, and that she had locked herself out after becoming abnormal.
  • Lin Yi inspected the plaster-like substance on the teaching platform and noticed it was visible from the classroom doorway.
  • Lin Yi found white powder on the classroom door and dark-red tomato sauce seeping from inside its keyhole.

Ch. 39The notice board outside the Gymnasium

Lin Yi and Wei Liang headed toward the Gymnasium, where Lin Yi discovered that buildings disappeared from his view when he left their designated areas. At the Gymnasium notice board, they learned rules for reaching the building and responding to rain, strange buildings, and suspicious people.

  • Lin Yi found tomato sauce emerge from a keyhole, harden into white fragments, and vanish from the napkin, leaving him more distrustful of the classroom.
  • Lin Yi and Wei Liang left for PE, and Wei Liang used extra socks from Lin Yi’s bag to cover his bare feet.
  • Lin Yi realized he could see the Teaching Building only within its streetlamp-numbered area, while Wei Liang could still see it from the Gymnasium area.
  • Lin Yi worried about his roommates, especially Mao Feiyang, as he and Wei Liang continued toward the Gymnasium.
  • Lin Yi and Wei Liang reached the Gymnasium notice board and read its rules, including instructions for rain, a Castle, and encountering an Athlete Student.

Ch. 40Sea wind, thunder, and a sculpture

Lin Yi and Wei Liang set out along the path to the Gymnasium after reading the emergency rules, but Lin Yi encountered foul sea wind and a sudden storm that seemed to affect only him. When he caught up to Wei Liang, the figure turned out to be the missing Little Genius sculpture, which continued walking through the gale after a lightning strike.

  • Lin Yi memorized the Notice Board's emergency rules, while Wei Liang proposed hugging a streetlamp during bad weather and revealed that he had brought raincoats.
  • As Lin Yi and Wei Liang walked toward the Gymnasium, Lin Yi noticed a faint fishy, rotten smell and discovered that the wind carried a foul sea breeze.
  • The wind rapidly intensified, the sky darkened, and Lin Yi saw that all the other classmates had disappeared from the path.
  • Lin Yi struggled through the gale to reach Wei Liang, but when the figure turned around, he saw the missing Little Genius sculpture wearing Wei Liang's clothes.
  • The sculpture reached toward Lin Yi as plaster flaked from its arm, then turned and continued along the path after a thunderclap and lightning strike.

Ch. 41The road that did not exist

Lin Yi became trapped on a road without streetlamps as the storm, fog, and sea wind warped the world around him. By following the pebbles and repeating his identity, he escaped the danger and found himself back on the normal path beside Wei Liang.

  • Lin Yi realized the Gymnasium and surrounding buildings had vanished, leaving him alone with the Little Genius sculpture on a road without streetlamps.
  • As the storm gathered and fog spread, Lin Yi recalled the Student Rules and identified pebbles beneath his feet as proof that he was still on the road.
  • Lin Yi closed his eyes, held his Student ID, repeated his name and student number, and crawled along the pebbles with his back to the sea wind.
  • When rain fell, a nearby creature attacked, but Lin Yi slid forward along the pebbles and avoided being struck.
  • Lin Yi followed the pebbles until they returned to normal, then opened his eyes on a regular path beside a streetlamp, where Wei Liang stood over him.
