Background / History
Escape from Void Sovereign Heaven
Chen Jade Pivot is the son of Chen Yu, the Red Essence Molding Ten Thousand Blessings Divine King who rules Void Sovereign Heaven. Their relationship was violently hostile: Chen Yu forced him out, and the Pivot Dipper Sect’s protection prevented his destruction. An inheritance from Daoist Kongkong helped him escape to Xudu Heaven 73 285.
His birth mother secretly gave him the Brahma-Invoking Banner of Ten Thousand Gods’ Veneration, a divine king’s weapon that subsequently spared him numerous difficulties. The underlying cause of his family’s estrangement remains undisclosed in the supplied account 81 285.
Pivot Dipper Sect and Betrayal
Under Divine House Pivot Splendor Dao Lord, Chen Jade Pivot learned Central Heaven Dipper Calculations and rose to prominence through his victories at the White Horse Dharma Assembly and Origin Elixir Grand Assembly. He was celebrated as the contemporary prodigy most likely to achieve Union with the Dao within eight hundred years 73 167 405.
Behind that reputation, he used the Human-Rearing Scripture to turn cultivators into puppets. He also stole the destinies of two junior sisters who had grown up under his care. The theft required their lucid, willing cooperation; after torturing them to death, he destroyed their origin spirits to prevent disclosure and reincarnation 73 167.
Several Xiantian Demon Sect Dao Lords received him before the Pivot Dipper Sect could execute him. His defection triggered a confrontation involving the Eight Sects and Six Schools and the Twelve Great Clans. Ancient Immortal Dao powers eventually mediated, though the price paid by the Xiantian Demon Sect was unknown 73.
Establishment in the Demonic Dao
Heaven’s punishment forced Chen Jade Pivot to shelter within the Waterborne Rongcheng Life-Deliverance Grotto-Heaven. There, he developed the means to distribute his thunder tribulations through his descendants 140 167.
His eldest son, Chen Xiangxian, later invaded the grotto-heaven with powerful outside backing. Chen Jade Pivot narrowly won by sacrificing the Dragon-Horn Great-Killing Sword and destroying Chen Xiangxian’s physical body. Great Sage Zhulong preserved Chen Xiangxian’s Origin Spirit 140 329 416.
Despite his confinement, Chen Jade Pivot built a faction comparable to those of veteran Xiantian Demon Sect True Lords such as Zhuang Si. His influence rested on cultivation, political calculation, and his ability to inspire extreme loyalty in gifted followers 315.
Appearance
Chen Jade Pivot is exceptionally handsome, with a refined bearing and an habitual gentle smile 73 80.
- Clothing: Purple or violet Daoist robes and a golden crown 80 405.
- Expression: His pleasant smile can contrast sharply with cold, threatening eyes 81 329.
- Demeanor: Calm and seemingly detached, even while displaying contempt for opponents 329 405.
- Divine-descent form: Reshaped Zhou Shiyuan’s borrowed body into his own familiar appearance 405.
Personality
Chen Jade Pivot’s charm conceals extreme ruthlessness. He is known for his romantic eloquence and numerous lovers, but his pursuit of cultivation ruined female cultivators’ lives and Dao Paths. His treatment of his junior sisters and descendants demonstrates that affection and kinship do not restrain him when they conflict with his advancement 73 167.
He treats people as instruments, cultivating obedience through gratitude, promises, coercion, and control of their prospects. Tao Shaojun found Zhou Shiyuan and several similarly gifted followers so devoted that they seemed more obedient than human puppets 315.
His arrogance coexists with careful preparation. He dismisses many rivals as beneath him, yet responds to a genuinely threatening opponent by gathering allies, researching counters, and arranging overwhelming force. Chen Heng’s potential repeatedly drew both his desire to recruit him and his determination to eliminate him 329 331 406 408.
Abilities & Skills
Central Heaven Dipper Calculations
Chen Jade Pivot cultivated this Pivot Dipper Sect divine ability to its ultimate realm. Before his defection, he was reputedly capable of calculating eight hundred years into both the past and future 104.
- Locates descendants and investigates their movements, including Chen Heng’s refuge near Floating Jade Lake 80.
- Combines knowledge of heaven’s workings with manipulation of human motives 104.
- Claims that some Dao Lords fall below him in Xiantian Divine Calculation 406.
- Limits: Heavenly suppression obstructs his calculations. Certain matters concerning Chen Heng remain unreadable, and Chen Jade Pivot explicitly admits that he cannot reliably divine his own tribulations 35 151 406.
- By the Rou Xuan Prefecture arc, Chen Heng describes more than half of his divination ability as crippled by his confinement 280.
Tribulation-Sharing Arcane Art
Using incarnations to propagate his bloodline and linking descendants through Primordial Beginning True Origin, Chen Jade Pivot distributes his Pure Yang Thunder Tribulation as Little Pure Yang Thunder 157 167.
- Descendants face the thunder as their cultivation advances; its strength increases with them 167 328.
- Successful endurance reduces Chen Jade Pivot’s own tribulations 328.
- He can withdraw the tribulations from useful descendants, making continued protection a means of securing their service 167.
- Less talented descendants may instead be refined into elixirs and consumed, providing a smaller reduction in his tribulations 167.
- Little Pure Yang Thunder cannot be concealed or avoided, and ordinary tribulation-evading treasures do not work against it. Those afflicted must endure it through their own arts and artifacts 157.
- Potential reversal: A descendant who learns the art’s essentials and a specially devised ritual could kill him and seize his cultivation and Dao attainment. He guards the art closely 416.
Human-Rearing Scripture
Chen Jade Pivot used the Human-Rearing Scripture before leaving the Pivot Dipper Sect and later offered it to the Xiantian Demon Sect 81 167.
- Refines people into human puppets stripped of independent thought and will 81.
- Enables the use of puppets as agents; Xiao Liang was one such vessel 331.
- His victims included members of the Twelve Great Clans, creating lasting blood feuds 189.
- Recognizes attempts to use the scripture against him, including Zhuang Si’s efforts to plant a jade seed in his heart 81.
Emanation and Divine Descent
Chen Jade Pivot can act beyond his grotto-heaven through projections or borrowed bodies, though heavenly punishment severely restricts these methods 116 404 407.
- Used an Emanation to confront Jun Yao over the Eastern Sea 116 404.
- Communicated remotely through a drop of his blood inside Yue You 152.
- Used the Divine Descent Method to control Zhou Shiyuan’s body and Mind Image 406.
- Limits: Even remote speech can erode his cultivation. As punishment intensifies, an Emanation can no longer safely leave the grotto-heaven, forcing him to rely on divine descent 152 407.
- A borrowed body restricts his available techniques: Zhou Shiyuan’s constitution could not accommodate one-yuan heavy water, so he selected Zuoyingbo Water instead 407.
Combat Arts
Chen Jade Pivot combines extensive combat experience with techniques selected to counter specific opponents. His prepared incarnation stood near the peak of the Cavern Mystery realm 405 408.
| Art | Applications and Limits |
|---|---|
| Zuoyingbo Water | Forms thousands of defensive droplets and can be condensed into arrows or a great axe 407 408. |
| Lesser Primal Magnetism Divine Light | A simplified derivative of Supreme-Principle Magnetism Immortal Light, suited to Cavern Mystery cultivation and particularly effective against sword cultivators 408. |
| Luochong True Pupil | Opens a Heavenly Eye that detects concealed forms; exposed Chen Heng’s False Form 408. |
| Great Jade Light of Emptiness Dharma | Drains blood and vital energy and weakens powerful bodies, including the Tai Su Jade Body 406 408. |
| Vast Propagation of True Essence | Strengthens the body to rival or surpass Chen Heng’s contemporary Tai Su Jade Body. Consumes substantial True Qi and cannot be maintained long at Zhou Shiyuan’s realm 408. |
| Image-Transference Terror Curse | Used as a finishing attack against Chen Heng. Its backlash weakened Chen Jade Pivot when Chen Heng evaded it 408. |
| Protective canopy | Repelled Jun Yao’s multiplying yin-yang saber lights and later defended against Chen Heng’s attacks 116 407. |
Heavenly Concealment
Chen Jade Pivot performed an art that obscured Qiao Yubi’s resonance with heaven’s workings 152.
- Its execution briefly altered the appearance of the stars and inflicted visible backlash on him 152.
- Lord Tong Xuan subsequently broke the art, causing Chen Jade Pivot to cough blood 157.
Manipulation and Faction Leadership
Chen Jade Pivot expands his influence despite remaining confined to his grotto-heaven 315.
- Uses control over descendants’ tribulations to retain their service 167.
- Recruits gifted followers through rescue, patronage, cultivation resources, and personal recognition 310 315 399.
- Coordinates human puppets, sect members, demon tribes, aristocratic clans, and powerful outside allies 331.
- Knows Buddhist meditation teachings well enough to surprise Laughing Monk; previously debated a visiting Jialan Temple Bodhisattva 296.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Brahma-Invoking Banner of Ten Thousand Gods’ Veneration — A divine king’s weapon secretly given to him by his birth mother. Only half refined when discussed with Yue You 81.
- Tribulation Immortal talismanic decrees — Scarce treasures used to resist heavenly punishment when acting outside his grotto-heaven. Their protection does not grant unrestricted freedom 116 152 407.
- Dragon-Horn Great-Killing Sword — Sacrificed in his narrow victory over Chen Xiangxian 140 329.
- Dipper Talismans — Protect descendants such as Chen Ying; one also provided the gateway through which he manifested during the Eastern Sea confrontation 24 116.
- Equanimity Scales — Draws opponents into an Inner Landscape that suppresses Dharma Artifacts and secret talismans. Escape requires one combatant’s death, preventing reliance on the World-Escaping Shuttle 408.
- Langhuan Secret Manual — One of the teachings used to entice Chen Bai into defecting from Jadechen 417.

- Zhou Shiyuan — Devoted adopted son. Chen Jade Pivot used his damaged body as the vessel for divine descent against Chen Heng 310 399 406.

- Jun Yao — Son-in-law and dangerous enemy. Chen Jade Pivot personally investigated whether Jun Yao had sacrificed his Dao Path and lifespan, then openly rejoiced at the confirmation 116.
- Zhuang Si — Fellow Xiantian Demon Sect True Lord and rival. Attempts to manipulate him through the Human-Rearing Scripture, though she later helps prevent Chen Xiangxian from reaching him 81 412.
- Tao Shaojun — Subordinate entrusted with increasing responsibility in Hongjing Heaven despite Yue You’s warnings about her ambition 315 329.
- World-Escaping Shuttle — Old acquaintance from Void Sovereign Heaven. Its artifact spirit despises his character and is restricted from revealing his true background there 152 285.
- Crown Prince Suiyu — Cooperates in schemes against Chen Heng; Chen Jade Pivot proposes Chen Heng’s potential use as a Demon Shrine 399 400.
- Twelve Great Clans — Numerous members bear blood feuds against him. He nevertheless recruits clan assistance against Chen Heng by exploiting shared interests 189 331.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Pursuit of Chen Heng
After learning that another descendant had cultivated Primordial Beginning True Origin, Chen Jade Pivot dispatched Yue You to retrieve him. Although he initially judged the descendant’s aptitude unimpressive, he still considered him useful 35.
His divination later identified Chen Heng and located him near Floating Jade Lake. Chen Jade Pivot’s reputation and political protection made sheltering Chen Heng dangerous even for established sects 80 105.
Eastern Sea and Earth Abyss
Chen Jade Pivot manifested over the Eastern Sea to test Jun Yao personally, spending a Tribulation Immortal decree to withstand heavenly punishment. While they fought, he ordered Yue You to bring back Chen Heng; Jun Yao’s Spirit Body intercepted Yue You and cut his Ba Serpent form in two 116.
He later enlisted the World-Escaping Shuttle’s cooperation and concealed Qiao Yubi’s connection to heaven’s workings. Lord Tong Xuan’s destruction of that concealment inflicted backlash on him 152 157.
Human Tribulation and the Heavenly Net
As Chen Heng advanced, Chen Jade Pivot increasingly suspected him of being the Human Tribulation blocking his attainment. He rejected Yue You’s proposal for a simple capture attempt, insisting that a decisive strike must use overwhelming force 328 329.
He recruited clans, sect figures, demon tribes, Dao Lord Hunzhe, and another powerful ally to attack after Chen Heng left the Dragon Palace Grotto-Heaven. These preparations formed his “Heavenly Net” 331.
Sweet Glaze Medicine Garden
Chen Jade Pivot prepared Zhou Shiyuan with countermeasures to Chen Heng’s abilities, at the cost of Zhou Shiyuan’s lifespan and potential. He then descended into that body to confront Chen Heng himself 399 406 408.
His offer of protection, cultivation resources, Xiantian Demon Sect membership, and access to the Six Sects’ fortune failed. Chen Heng distrusted him and refused to abandon Jun Yao 406.
Their ensuing battle lasted a day and night before continuing inside the Equanimity Scales. Chen Jade Pivot severed Chen Heng’s right arm, but his finishing curse backfired: Chen Heng had studied his methods through the One True Dharma Realm and evaded the curse with Scattering Radiance and Concealing Form Art. Chen Heng then killed the borrowed incarnation, not the true body 408 412.
After the Incarnation’s Defeat
Chen Jade Pivot remained active after the defeat. Following Chen Heng’s investiture as a Jadechen True Disciple, he ordered Chen Ying and Chen Bai to retrieve and imprison Chen Chan while he considered his next move against his son 419.
