Background / History

Family and Ostracism

Ao Li was born to two prominent Dragon Venerables. Her father, Ao Yan, was the Dragon Race’s youngest Dragon Venerable and Garrison Commissioner of the Ten Thousand Dragon Demon Cavern. Her mother, Chi Yao, led the Water Dragon Division and was the strongest of the five tribal leaders at the time 426.

While Ao Li was still an infant, a demonic uprising corrupted Ao Yan. He lost control and killed Dragon Race experts before the five tribal leaders subdued him; Chi Yao personally sealed him inside the cavern. Three years later, Chi Yao entered the cavern herself, leaving Ao Li with the tribe 426.

The Dragon Race treated her parents as traitors and branded Ao Li a “Demon Seed,” believing she would eventually follow them onto the demonic path. The Dragon Emperor’s protective edict prevented direct harm to her, but hostile dragons continued to ostracize her and persecute her Dragon Servants 421 426.

Ao Li resolved to become Water Dragon Division leader so she could enter the cavern and discover her parents’ fate. Resources concealed in an underground treasury left by Chi Yao supported much of her cultivation, particularly during her early years 427 459.

Recruiting Gu Chenfeng

After previously giving Gu Chenfeng a discreet warning about Hei Kui, Ao Li offered to accept him as her Dragon Servant. She presented her protection as an alternative to scrutiny by Dragon Race experts interested in his unusual bloodline. He accepted and entered a bloodline contract with her 411 419 420.

Ao Li brought him to Water Dragon City, assigned him a hill and pavilion within her estate, and supplied him with a Storage Ring. Although she allowed him freedom when he had no duties, she warned that her enemies would deliberately target him 420.

When Gu Chenfeng fought challenges on her behalf, she rebuked his recklessness but promised to handle any elders who retaliated. She also treated his injuries and disclosed the history behind the “Demon Seed” accusation 426.

Xin’er’s Betrayal and Joint Cultivation

Xin’er, Ao Li’s childhood attendant and closest companion, was secretly a spy. Ao Li had already discovered this but could not bring herself to expose her, hoping she might change sides. When Xin’er self-destructed after fighting Gu Chenfeng, Ao Li froze the remaining explosion and recovered her Dragon Origin 431.

Afterward, Ao Li healed Gu Chenfeng and taught him the Ice Soul Dragon Slumber Art to stabilize his restless bloodline power. Their practice began producing unexpected resonance, greatly increasing cultivation efficiency while stirring emotions and physical reactions neither initially understood 432 433 435 436.

Ao Li’s occasional instruction became regular joint cultivation. Eventually, she moved her seclusion into Gu Chenfeng’s pavilion, where they cultivated together until the Water Dragon Division leadership contest began 437.

Water Dragon Division Leadership Contest

The contest required candidates to claim the Profound Nether Water-Covering Seal from the seventh layer of the Nine Dragons Suppressing Prison Tower. Ao Li initially opposed Gu Chenfeng’s participation out of concern for his safety, then brought him along and left him on the first floor with protective treasures and instructions 440 442.

Ao Li and Zhu Jiu fought Cangming’s five-elder faction for the seal. Even after the demonic tide invaded the tower, she refused to abandon its refinement: obtaining it was her route to finding her parents. She sent Zhu Jiu away and continued behind an extreme-cold barrier 443 449.

Demonic beasts and foul yin energy nearly overwhelmed her, but the thinning of the tide gave her enough time to finish refining the seal. Within it, she detected a mark left by Chi Yao 451 454.

Reunion and Recognition

During her escape, Ao Li was intercepted by a fallen Dragon Venerable and surrounded by powerful demonic creatures. Gravely wounded, she prepared to destroy her body and Primordial Spirit rather than be consumed or corrupted. The seal then activated, and her parents appeared to protect her 457 458.

Ao Yan and Chi Yao had abandoned their physical bodies and remained as Dragon Souls guarding a passage to the Upper Realm. Their demonic contamination prevented them from leaving the tower. Ao Li refused to abandon them, even when they tried to force her to safety and sacrifice themselves 458 459.

An azure dragon phantom intervened, suppressed the demonic tide, and cleansed her parents. After Ao Li returned, the Dragon Emperor publicly affirmed her family’s loyalty and blessed her. Her advancement to nine-star Source Emperor Realm secured the elders’ recognition of her leadership 460 462 463.

Later Activities

Ao Li presided over the True Spirit Assembly as the Dragon Race’s representative. Despite her new authority, Gu Chenfeng’s prolonged absence unsettled her. After discovering his human identity through his aura and border battlefield records, she confronted him and tried to make him remain with the Dragon Race. Their fight became entangled with the effects of the Ice Soul Dragon Slumber Art 465 469 470.

After reaching Source Venerable Realm, she defended the Dragon Domain against Ancient Evil Demons. She later reinforced the Four Symbols Divine Sect, protected Gu Chenfeng during the battle against Blood Refining Venerable’s forces, and helped pursue the retreating enemies 617 661 662.

Ao Li continued supporting the sect during Gu Chenfeng’s absence and accompanied him to the Seven Star Alliance summit. Her parents later recognized him as her Dao Companion while they continued guarding the cavern’s seal 746 749 822.

Following the continent’s recovery, Gu Chenfeng gave her a Saint Level crystal intended to help her reach Half-Saint, with a possible opportunity to attain Sub-Saint. The gift does not establish that either breakthrough had occurred 959.

Appearance

  • Hair: Long, silvery-white hair, frequently described as falling like a snowy waterfall 427 469.
  • Eyes: Deep-blue eyes with vertical dragon pupils 410 462.
  • Clothing: Silver or silver-white robes and dresses; one outfit includes an ice-blue waist sash and ice-crystal patterns along the hem 437 464 469.
  • Aura: An intense, naturally icy presence; frost can gather on her eyelashes during cultivation 427 464.
  • Battle armor: Can manifest ice-blue armor with plates resembling dragon scales 661.

Personality

Ao Li is reserved, proud, and accustomed to making firm decisions. She maintains an aloof bearing even toward fellow elders and resists interference in her affairs. Her isolation is rooted partly in the hostility she endured as a child; she relied on the Ice Soul Dragon Slumber Art to quiet painful memories and maintain emotional control 433 435 437 440.

Her apparent coldness conceals strong attachments. She treated Xin’er as family despite knowing of her betrayal, defended Gu Chenfeng against stronger political opponents, and refused to abandon her parents when escaping alone would have been safer 427 431 438 459.

Romantic feelings initially leave her confused and defensive. She explains away her longing for Gu Chenfeng as indebtedness or a desire for family warmth, while repeatedly returning to his pavilion and noticing precisely how long he has neglected their shared art 464.

Abilities & Skills

Ice Origin Power and Ice Law

Born with ice-attribute Heaven and Earth Origin Power, Ao Li develops formidable cold-based abilities and later wields ice Law as a Source Venerable 433 661.

  • Creates extreme-cold barriers capable of freezing and destroying charging demonic beasts 449.
  • Uses the Ice Claw Seal to attack powerful restrictions 444.
  • Condenses a deep-blue dragon phantom around herself to break through enemies while escaping 457.
  • Freezes the surrounding void and arrests powerful dark spikes before they can strike her 661.
  • Her barriers can still crack under sustained assault; foul yin energy can erode her power and disrupt its circulation 451 457.

True Dragon Bloodline and Transformation

Ao Li possesses a pure True Dragon Bloodline, strengthened further by the Dragon Emperor’s blessing 435 462.

  • Her bloodline pressure can suppress other True Dragons, including Cangming 438.
  • Transforms into her true dragon body for combat 457.
  • After the blessing, her bloodline purity ranks among the Dragon Race’s finest True Dragon Bloodlines 462.
  • Severe injury and demonic interference can force her out of dragon form 457.

Ice Soul Dragon Slumber Art

Created jointly by Ao Yan and Chi Yao, this art strengthens the Primordial Spirit and regulates bloodline aura. Ao Li practiced it for over a hundred years before teaching it to Gu Chenfeng 433.

  • Calms emotions and helps suppress unstable bloodline power 432 433.
  • Requires exceptionally high comprehension; Ao Li initially needed several months to gain a basic grasp 434.
  • During joint practice, filters impurities from absorbed energy and greatly accelerates cultivation 436 437.
  • Allows Ao Li and Gu Chenfeng to sense and respond to each other across great distances 617.
  • Is a dual-cultivation art with leading and supporting roles. Bloodline quality strongly influences who takes the lead, allowing Gu Chenfeng to disrupt Ao Li despite her superior cultivation 470.

Healing

  • Personally treats Gu Chenfeng’s injuries, accelerating his recovery to Great Grandmaster cultivation 432.
  • Provides Jade Marrow Dragon Saliva tea to aid his recovery after arena battles 426.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Ao Yan — Her father, a Dragon Venerable and former cavern Garrison Commissioner. Ao Li spends over a century seeking the truth about his fate 426 458 459.
