Zhou Quan's unquestionable voice made the Gou Hok Jai boss's expression turn as ugly as could be.
If it had been any other officer telling him to shut down, he wouldn't have paid them the slightest attention, even if they'd been from the Big Gang or the General Gang.
After all, their nightclub was a legitimate business.
It was true that their boss, Tai Po Black, trafficked in powder, but he never allowed it to appear in his own establishments.
Especially since this nightclub was on Jordan Road, in the bustling heart of Yau Tsim Mong.
It was worth knowing that the Police Headquarters in Yau Tsim District was also located along the main stretch of Jordan Road.
No matter how crazy these Gou Hok Jai members were, they wouldn't dare engage in that kind of life-threatening business right under the police's noses.
They could shut down, but he had to present official paperwork.
Without official paperwork, they wouldn't just have something to say to an assistant superintendent.
Even if the Governor showed up, they'd still have something to say.
However, even as furious as he was, the crass-looking Gou Hok Jai member didn't dare make too much of a scene in front of Zhou Quan.
A tree cast a shadow, and a person had a reputation.
This officer, nicknamed the West Kowloon Gun God, really would draw his gun and fire.
"Give me a moment, Sergeant Zhou. I'll get them all to leave."
After weighing the pros and cons, the Gou Hok Jai boss put on a smile and said.
Then he turned and barked at his underlings.
"Didn't you hear Sergeant Zhou? We're closed for the night. Hurry up and clear everyone out!"
Being forced to close would affect business, and, more importantly, cost his boss, Tai Po Black, face.
But compared with offending the dangerous officer standing before him, none of that mattered.
Watching quietly as the Gou Hok Jai members ushered out the customers, Zhou Quan nodded in satisfaction.
What he was doing might get him reported afterward.
But he didn't care. They were just a bunch of Gou Hok Jai, and they were black-society figures already on record with the Police Force.
The Big Sir of Yau Tsim District and the Big Sir of the West Kowloon Mobile Unit were both Zhou Quan's own people.
How could these Gou Hok Jai possibly get anywhere by reporting him?
With enough confidence and power behind him, Zhou Quan naturally carried himself with an air of superiority toward them.
The more domineering he was, the more these Gou Hok Jai would behave themselves.
If Zhou Quan really were a pushover, these Gou Hok Jai wouldn't take him seriously.
Seeing their assistant superintendent's attitude, He Wenzhan, Shao Meiqi, and the other officers stopped checking IDs and let the Gou Hok Jai usher the customers out.
It didn't take long before the nightclub was empty except for the PTU team Zhou Quan had brought and the Gou Hok Jai guarding the place.
"Tell your boss I'll wait here for him!"
Zhou Quan sat down on a comfortable sofa and glanced at the crass-looking Gou Hok Jai.
"Have a seat, Sergeant Zhou. I'll go get Big Brother right away."
The Gou Hok Jai nodded and bowed, answering in a deferential voice.
Before leaving, he didn't forget to give the other underlings beside him an order.
"Why haven't you prepared drinks for the officers? Juice, not alcohol. They're on duty."
After giving Zhou Quan another ingratiating smile, he hurried deeper into the nightclub to contact his boss, Tai Po Black.
About twenty minutes later, a middle-aged man with gold gleaming at his neck and on his fingers, and a face full of coarse features, hurried in through the nightclub's entrance.
"Goodness, I've heard all about you, Sergeant Zhou. What an honor to meet you today!"
He looked around, and when he saw Zhou Quan sitting on the sofa, a false smile immediately spread across his face.
Though this was the first time the two had met, just as Tai Po Black had ways of learning about Zhou Quan, Zhou Quan had also seen Tai Po Black's photo.
The intelligence file his uncle, Lee Man-bun, had given him contained information on every triad operating within the West Kowloon District.
Tai Po Black might have his turf in the New Territories North District, but since he had businesses in Yau Tsim Mong, his name naturally appeared in the file.
"Sergeant Zhou, what brings a big shot like you to my little place today?"
Tai Po Black dropped onto the sofa beside Zhou Quan and spoke with a broad smile, trying to ingratiate himself. "I'd guess it's a lucky wind. What is it you'd like to advise me on? I'll do my best."
As he spoke, Tai Po Black turned to look at the Gou Hok Jai boss standing far away, with no right to come near Zhou Quan.
"Sergeant Zhou's here, and you didn't even give him a proper welcome?"
He gave the order with exaggerated emphasis. "Go get my treasured box of Cuban Cigar and let Sergeant Zhou have a taste."
After giving his underling the order, Tai Po Black turned back to Zhou Quan and fawned on him again. "You don't know this, Sergeant Zhou, but that box of cigars was rolled on the smooth, pale thighs of Cuban beauties. They're incredibly rich and fragrant..."
Before Tai Po Black could finish, Zhou Quan raised a hand and cut him off.
"No need."
Who knew what might be mixed into a Gou Hok Jai's cigars? Zhou Quan wasn't going to touch them.
"Let's talk business. I hear you've been taking a particular underling under your wing lately and even put him in charge of your finance company on Tsim Sha Tsui Financial Street."
Zhou Quan straightened up and smoothed his pristine uniform, then spoke slowly. "I have some questions for him. Hand him over to me."
His voice was calm, but the refusal he would accept was unmistakable.
Tai Po Black's already dark complexion turned black as the bottom of a pot.
"Sergeant Zhou, that's unreasonable. I can't hand over one of my own men for no reason."
Feeling that he'd lost face, Tai Po Black no longer sounded as ingratiating as before.
"So there's nothing to talk about?"
Zhou Quan glanced at him indifferently, then reached toward He Wenzhan beside him and said softly, "Ah Zhan, your gun!"
He Wenzhan hesitated. He had no idea what his assistant superintendent was planning.
But out of trust in him, he still drew the pistol from his waist and handed it to Zhou Quan.
Then Zhou Quan flicked his wrist and poured the bullets out of the cylinder one by one.
Finally, as everyone watched in astonishment, Zhou Quan grabbed Tai Po Black's right hand in a flash and forcibly shoved the police gun into it.
Before Tai Po Black could react, Zhou Quan raised his left hand again and shoved him hard to the ground.
At the same time, his free right hand instantly drew the pistol from his own waist and pointed it precisely at the center of Tai Po Black's brow.
"Assaulting a police officer! Stealing a gun! I can shoot you dead right now!"
Looking down at Tai Po Black, Zhou Quan said impassively, "Can we talk now?"
