Before today, Zhou Quan and Dongguan Chai had never met.
However, He Wenzhan, Shao Meiqi, and the other officers under Zhou Quan were all old acquaintances of Dongguan Chai.
Dongguan Chai knew the patrol area of this PTU unit better than anyone.
As the assistant superintendent of this unit, if Zhou Quan wanted to check IDs within his patrol area, it was just a matter of saying the word.
After answering Zhou Quan's question, Dongguan Chai's expression completely fell.
He had never offended the menace standing before him. Why was the other man targeting his boss because of him?
Could it be because of Fat Tong?
But that didn't make sense. If that fat bastard had some connection with the menace in front of him, why would he have been demoted and transferred out of the Anti-Triad Unit?
Whatever changes were going on inside Dongguan Chai, his answer had clearly satisfied Zhou Quan.
"Very, good!"
Zhou Quan clapped, then rose to his feet with a smile.
"Ah Mei told me you really want to maintain good relations between the police and the public?"
Before Dongguan Chai could answer, Zhou Quan gave him a knowing look.
"Tomorrow morning, I expect to see you, Good Citizen, in my office!"
He put particular emphasis on the last four words.
Then he paid no further attention to the changing expressions of Tai Po Black, Dongguan Chai, and the others.
"Move out!"
At Zhou Quan's command, he led his men out of the nightclub at a brisk pace.
The reason Zhou Quan had come to see Dongguan Chai was to find out exactly where Lam Tong was.
But this wasn't something he could bring up in front of so many people.
Tomorrow, Zhou Quan would wait for Dongguan Chai in his office.
As for whether Dongguan Chai would show up as promised, Zhou Quan had no concerns about that whatsoever.
Unless Tai Po Black could bear to cut his losses and give up his businesses in Yau Tsim District, these gangsters were no more than fish on a chopping board to Zhou Quan, ready for him to carve up as he pleased.
Watching Zhou Quan leave the nightclub with a group of PTU officers, Dongguan Chai's rigid posture finally gave way.
"Boss, why did that menace come looking for trouble at our place?"
Collapsing onto the seat beside Tai Po Black, Dongguan Chai wiped the sweat from his forehead and couldn't help complaining.
Although Zhou Quan had worn a smile the whole time, his terrifying presence had been more than Dongguan Chai could handle.
"Bullshit. That menace came after you, you bastard. I just got dragged into it."
Tai Po Black glared at Dongguan Chai and swore.
By now, Tai Po Black had clearly figured it all out.
That menace who had just left only had business with Dongguan Chai. He was the one who had suffered for nothing.
"Fuck his mother! I've never offended that menace in my life!"
Dongguan Chai instinctively shook his head and cursed, then looked to his boss for help.
"Boss, tell me. Should I go tomorrow or not?"
Tai Po Black shot him a furious look.
"You don't go? What happens to the club? What happens to me?"
Tai Po Black spat so hard he sprayed Dongguan Chai's face.
"That menace just shoved a police gun into my hand and said he was going to shoot me dead."
At that, Tai Po Black let out a helpless sigh.
"No wonder they call him the West Kowloon Gun God. He's got a gun, and he really will use it! You'd better go and do as you're told!"
Only then did Dongguan Chai understand what had happened in the nightclub.
His already limp body shuddered.
Early the next morning, before West Kowloon Police Headquarters had opened for the day, Dongguan Chai was already waiting properly on his own outside the entrance.
When Zhou Quan officially started work, he spotted Dongguan Chai outside his glass-walled office.
"Good. Looks like you really do want to maintain good relations between the police and the public."
Zhou Quan gave Dongguan Chai an amused look, then beckoned. "Come in."
With an ingratiating smile, Dongguan Chai hurried after him.
"Sit."
Behind his desk, Zhou Quan pointed to the chair in front of it.
"Chief Zhou, I'd rather stand."
Dongguan Chai closed the glass door behind him and quickly shook his head. He flattered Zhou Quan somewhat nervously. "I can listen to my superior's instructions better standing up!"
He wouldn't dare act cocky in front of Zhou Quan, especially not inside the Mobile Unit's headquarters.
"Relax. I didn't call you here to give you trouble."
After casually reassuring Dongguan Chai, Zhou Quan got straight to the point. "I heard you've been looking for Lam Tong lately?"
Dongguan Chai looked even more nervous. He hurried to explain, "Reporting to you, sir, Tongge and I only had a normal debtor-creditor relationship before. It was just that he-"
Before he could finish, Zhou Quan raised a hand to cut him off.
"I don't care about the debt between you and Lam Tong. I just want to know where Lam Tong is staying now."
Leaning back in his chair, Zhou Quan said firmly, "I'm giving you one day. Before my unit starts patrolling tonight, I expect some good news."
Once he learned what Zhou Quan really wanted, Dongguan Chai visibly relaxed.
"Yes, sir!"
He let out a long breath and snapped to attention to salute.
"Don't worry, Chief Zhou. By tonight, I guarantee you'll find Fat Tong-I'll get you his current address."
Dongguan Chai had already been asking around for Lam Tong's whereabouts while trying to collect the debt, and he was nearly there.
Besides, even if he couldn't get any definite information, he could always have his men follow Lam Tong.
It was a trivial matter. There was no need to make such a fuss over it.
With the weight on his mind lifted, Dongguan Chai couldn't help letting some of his true nature show.
"Police-public cooperation, right? I, Chan Yiu Hung, know the law best, and I'm the most eager to maintain good relations between the police and the public."
He shrugged and smiled obsequiously.
"Just do your job."
Zhou Quan glanced at Dongguan Chai and said in a low voice, "That's all. You can go."
Zhou Quan had never had much regard for gangsters like Dongguan Chai.
He could make use of him now and then, but he clearly wasn't going to treat him warmly.
The only reason Dongguan Chai was standing there speaking to him unscathed was that Zhou Quan had no evidence of his crimes.
