Background / History
Li Feiyu grew up in the Red Whale Gang, trained in martial arts from childhood, and began traveling the martial world at twelve. By eighteen, he was a first-rate martial artist and the gang’s young master. Although his family was reasonably prosperous, his father could not provide substantial cultivation funding. Having witnessed his father bow before a cultivator, Li Feiyu regarded mortal status and martial achievement as insufficient substitutes for immortal cultivation 2 3 9 33.
After failing the Azure Cloud Sect’s entrance selection, he chose to join the Lu Lineage alongside Lu Changsheng rather than return to the gang. The recruitment agreement required fifty children within twenty years, or fulfillment of an equivalent spiritual-root requirement. Failure would mean repaying three times the resources spent on him and serving the lineage for ten years 1 2.
At Green Bamboo Manor, Li Feiyu continued both martial training and immortal cultivation. His Red Sun Heart Method required celibacy until the Xiantian realm, so the Lu Lineage temporarily allowed him to postpone fathering children. He nevertheless stated that he intended to honor the contract because he had accepted the lineage’s resources 9.
Personality
Li Feiyu is reserved, with a cold exterior and a warm heart. Lu Changsheng comes to regard him as a trustworthy close friend, supported by his lifesaving intervention during the Chen Lineage ambush and his quiet reassurance during Lu Ping’an’s birth 3 5.
He is proud of his early martial accomplishments and sometimes feels discouraged by his friends’ faster cultivation or improved prospects. These feelings do not become hostility: he sincerely congratulates Lu Changsheng’s successes, accepts his continued friendship, and remains happy for him at his wedding to Lu Miaoyun 18 19 24 49.
His experience makes him cautious rather than impulsively heroic. At the ruined temple, he first observes the suspicious travelers and acts decisively only after detecting an attempt to poison and drug them. After killing the attacker, he remains composed 33 34.
Abilities & Skills
Red Sun Heart Method and Martial Arts
- Early proficiency: Becomes a first-rate martial artist by eighteen after more than a decade of training 3 9.
- Cultivation requirement: The Red Sun Heart Method requires him to remain a virgin until reaching Xiantian 9.
- Vital-essence control: Explains that reaching Xiantian will let him retain his vital essence and prevent primal yang from leaking except when fathering children 9.
- Reflexes and movement: Tackles Lu Changsheng out of a lethal Wind Blade’s path during the Chen Lineage ambush 3.
- Acupoint manipulation: Releases Qu Zhenzhen’s sealed acupoints by sending several streams of force into her body, restoring her speech 34.
Immortal Spells and Combined Combat
- Basic spells: Knows the beginner spells available to cultivators and is described as more practiced with them than Lu Changsheng during their temple encounter 33.
- Voice Transmission Technique: Uses it to discuss the suspicious old man privately with Lu Changsheng 33.
- Fireball-infused palm strike: Compresses the Fireball Technique into his palm and combines it with innate martial arts, burning an Innate Master to ash during their palm clash 33 34.
- Martial limitations: Explains that Xiantian True Qi is roughly comparable to a third-layer Qi Refining cultivator’s spiritual power, but closing the distance against spells and magical artifacts is difficult. Even Xiantian Great Grandmasters, by his account, can contend only with fifth- or sixth-layer cultivators 9.
Martial-World Experience
- Reading suspicious behavior: Recognizes that the old man and Qu Zhenzhen are unlikely to be grandfather and granddaughter; notices her sealed acupoints and apparent appeal for help 33.
- Detecting concealed drugs: Identifies the attacker’s hidden knockout drug and suspects his offered provisions are poisoned, drawing on familiarity with such tricks since childhood 34.
- Medicinal knowledge: Recognizes Marrow-Washing, Innate, Great Restoration, Essence-Nourishing, and Five-Spirit Antidote Pills, understanding their high value to mortal martial artists 31.
- Cultivation-method recognition: Identifies the Cauldron Bewitching Art practiced by the two women Hong Yi sends to Lu Changsheng 42.
- Prospective teaching: Agrees to teach martial arts to Lu Changsheng’s children who lack spiritual roots, while warning that the training is grueling 24.
