Background / History
Yu Xiaogang was born the son of Yu Yuanzhen, leader of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Before his Martial Soul Awakening, he was respected as the clan leader's son; afterward, he awakened Luo Sanpao with only half a rank of Innate Soul Power. Luo Sanpao's only offensive method was farting, and Yu Xiaogang became the clan's laughingstock. Determined to disprove the label of “trash,” he left the clan to seek a way to evolve his Martial Soul. 33
He joined Spirit Hall in Spirit City using his father's status, but was treated as an outsider and restricted to the public library's first floor. Unable to find Martial Soul Evolution records there, he befriended the young Bibi Dong, using his familiarity with the library's books to impress her and gain access to wider Spirit Hall resources. 28
Using information from those books, Yu Xiaogang compiled the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul. Most were summaries of existing common knowledge, though his observation that Soul Power could continue accumulating after a cultivation bottleneck until a Soul Ring was acquired was considered useful. 29 He accepted Bibi Dong's confession partly because marriage to the Spirit Hall Saintess would provide unrestricted access to Spirit Hall's collection. 30
After Bibi Dong rejected him following Qian Xunji's intervention, Yu Xiaogang fled Spirit City. He later traveled with Flender and Liu Erlong, then devoted himself to Martial Soul theory research as his remaining path to prove his worth. 30
At Notting Academy, Yu Xiaogang declined repeated requests to teach, claiming that research for the benefit of the Soul Master world was more important. He nevertheless remained at the academy and collected data on newly awakened students' Martial Souls and Innate Soul Power. 333 334 He accepted Tang San as his disciple after deducing that Tang San possessed Twin Martial Souls. 334
Martial Soul Changes
| State | Chapter | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Luo Sanpao | 33 | Awakened with half a rank of Innate Soul Power; its attacks were fart-based. 33 |
| Boar Hog Beast Martial Soul | 49 | The Live Stream Room stripped Luo Sanpao of its Golden Sacred Dragon Source after Yu Xiaogang answered a question incorrectly. 49 |
| Ordinary Boar Hog Beast Martial Soul | 113 | A further punishment removed Luo Sanpao's corporeal form and intelligence, forcing Yu Xiaogang to use Martial Soul Possession to activate its skills himself. 113 153 |
Appearance
Yu Xiaogang is ordinarily depicted as an average-looking man with a crew cut, frequently dressed in dark scholar's or academic robes. In the historical Notting Academy broadcast, he appears younger, with disheveled hair, a black-and-white scholar's robe, and an unremarkable face. 69 330
- His normal appearance is repeatedly described as ordinary. 69 330
- During Martial Soul Possession, he becomes a fat pig-headed figure with a pig snout, pig ears, pig tail, and enlarged body. 228
- His possession form is accompanied by two yellow Soul Rings. 228
Personality
Yu Xiaogang is driven by a lifelong need to prove that he is not worthless. His failure to awaken a powerful Martial Soul left him deeply sensitive to ridicule, public rejection, and challenges to his reputation. He initially sought Martial Soul Evolution, then redirected that ambition into theory research and the cultivation of a talented disciple. 33 153
He is highly conscious of prestige and validation. He became overconfident after receiving Bibi Dong's admiration, publicly claimed credit for Tang San's future rise, and celebrated intensely when the Live Stream Room confirmed that he developed Shrek's Seven-in-One Fusion Technique. 30 73 421
His concern for Tang San is both genuine and tied to his desire for vindication. He repeatedly risks humiliation, injury, and danger to protect his disciple, but also views Tang San's talent as his best opportunity to prove himself to the world. 251 318 366
Abilities & Skills
Martial Soul Theory
Yu Xiaogang studies Martial Souls, Soul Rings, and soul beasts. His theory work includes the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul and guidance on Soul Ring selection.
- Compiled much of the Ten Core Competencies from Spirit Hall library material rather than original discoveries. 29 30
- Identified Soul Beast traits while guiding Tang San through the Star Dou Great Forest. 118
- Proposed the Martial Soul Mimicry Theory, arguing that a weak plant-type Martial Soul could absorb Beast-type Soul Rings; Tang San's successful absorption of a Golden Ring Rattlesnake Soul Ring reinforced Yu Xiaogang's confidence in the theory. 118 120
- Correctly developed Shrek Team's Seven-in-One Fusion Technique, though its later exposure revealed that it was based on another person's research rather than entirely his own work. 421 424
Fart Soul Skills
After Luo Sanpao's degradation, Yu Xiaogang must undergo Martial Soul Possession to use his soul skills personally.
- First Soul Skill: Farting Like Thunder — produces a foul, explosive green mist. 228
- Second Soul Skill: Farting Like Smoke — creates toxic smoke used to interfere with opponents and aid escape. 228 234
- Third Soul Skill: Toxic Fart — was countered by Bibi Dong's Sacred Flame, causing the emitted gas to explode and severely injure Yu Xiaogang's buttocks. 229
- His skills require him to consume white radishes and expend Soul Power. 153 234
- The skills are humiliating to use because Yu Xiaogang himself becomes the source of the attack. 153 228
Fart-Propelled Escape
Yu Xiaogang can use the recoil from his fart skills as propulsion.
- Tang Hao and Tang San positioned themselves above him while Tang San bound the group together with Blue Silver Grass. 234
- His toxic discharge propelled all three forward like a jet, allowing them to widen the distance from pursuing Spirit Hall Titled Douluo. 234
- He continued using the technique despite depleted Soul Power, dwindling radishes, and injuries in order to help Tang San escape. 240
Equipment / Items
- Storage Soul Guidance Device — used to carry research materials, books, notes, and white radishes. 75 234
- White radishes — consumed to fuel his fart-based soul skills. 153 234
- Blood Essence Pills — earned through a correct Live Q&A answer and given to Tang San. 174 175
