"Dopamine Receptor Sensitizer."
As he opened the document Feng Wenbin handed him, a conspicuous title caught his eye.
"Dopamine Receptor Sensitizer? What does that mean? You're not planning to develop some kind of banned substance, are you?"
Xia Xu raised his eyebrows slightly.
After spending so long around Gu Haiming and the others at Star Sea Biotech, he was no longer a novice in biology or pharmacology. Naturally, he understood what those words meant.
There was a view in biology that humans were actually nothing more than slaves to their genes. Carroll Laboratory's Superbrain Project was largely based on this theory, aiming to break free of the constraints of the body and genetic instincts.
This view might have been somewhat exaggerated, but it did have some merit.
Human birth, aging, illness, and death were all actually controlled by genes, and everything genes did served only to perpetuate themselves. They would make the body develop the urge to reproduce when food was plentiful and strengthen themselves to adapt when the environment was harsh, but they would also choose to sacrifice the individual when necessary.
Aging and death were, in fact, the best examples. Many studies had shown that the human body possessed strong repair capabilities when young, but after a certain stage, its various repair mechanisms actively gave up and stopped working, which then caused the body's condition to deteriorate further and further.
This was a way of conserving resources. In essence, it sacrificed older individuals to save resources for younger individuals to survive and reproduce, thereby ensuring the long-term continuation of the genes.
Of course, this was no conspiracy theory. It might simply have been a physiological mechanism selected through survival of the fittest over the long course of evolution.
But there was no denying that a great many human
