Fire hydrants were wrenched from the ground, sending jets of water several meters into the air.
Vehicles were lifted and hurled, embedding themselves deep in the outer walls of shopping centers. Flames and black gasoline smoke lingered without dissipating.
Street signs, lampposts, vehicles, even... pedestrians-everything became a tool for it to vent its brute strength and fury.
Its wild cries, somewhere between roars and wolf howls, remained clearly audible several blocks away.
A single leap carried it a dozen meters, or even several dozen.
The neon lights and lavish shopping-center facades that had once proclaimed the district's prosperity were reduced to shattered ruins in a short time as it leaped back and forth.
Humans were like ants before it, not even reaching its waist.
Under its pursuit, the crowds rediscovered their ancient fear. Screaming, wailing, fleeing, trampling-blood-smeared craters dotted the streets, creating a scene straight out of the apocalypse.
This was a true monster.
A terrifying creature beyond anything any of them understood, as though it had broken free from a myth.
Nearby police officers had arrived early, but without guns as part of their routine equipment, they accomplished nothing beyond adding to the death toll.
